I called Bonnie the second I got home from work last night to see how her meeting with Jim had gone. She sounded pretty upbeat, but she said she didn’t feel upbeat, so who knows?
She said a lot of the conversation was him telling her all the times her drinking had embarrassed him over the past decade. Like a one-on-one intervention. Which probably would have been more useful before she stopped drinking, and before she left him.
My sense is that Jim needs to get this stuff off his chest so he can move on, emotionally. Or maybe he just wants to hurt her because she hurt him. I don’t know Jim, so I can’t say. I really don’t think he’s a bad guy. That’s intuition talking. Plus, I don’t think Bonnie would have married a bad guy. Not her style.
