"You look great today!" Tanisha complimented, as we walked out of the dorm room together.
"Thanks," I grinned. "I was aiming to look as confident as possible."
"You did well," she replied, smiling. We made our way to the lockers together, chatting about our preferences in make-up, and what brands we used.
"Este Lauder works best for me," Tanisha shrugged, as we stopped at my locker first.
"I'm just not a foundation person," I replied, taking out the book I needed for the first period. "It gets patchy on my skin."
"Of course it does." We turned around to find the source of the voice, and my confidence instantly vanished as soon as I saw Aisha, Priya, and Sapphire walking towards us. I gulped, my face falling. "No makeup can make an Ugly Duckling, like you, look good," Sapphire stated, looking me up and down. I crossed my arms over my chest, looking up at her as she towered over me in her high heels.
"At least I don't look like a walking advertisement of plastic surgeons," I replied. My eyes scanned the room for Ace, but he was not there. He was the only one I was genuinely afraid of. The rest of them were mainly annoying.
Sapphire chuckled at my words, glancing at Aisha. "I see someone is still as brave... And stupid, as they were two days ago," she said, shifting her gaze to me again.
"I just wanna smash her face in," Priya muttered, rolling her eyes.
"The way I smashed your friend's?" I raised an eyebrow, earning a glare from her. She stepped forward, standing right in front of me, as I realized that she too, was quite a bit taller than I was. I took a step back, but looked up at her defiantly.
"You have no idea what you're up against," she seethed, the thick eyeliner and kajal that rimmed her eyes making her glare look sharper. "We can end you in a single moment if you want. We can send you out with broken bones and a bald head, and no one will ask a single question. You know why? Because this place belongs to us," Priya hissed.
I blinked, my heart pacing in my chest, yet I refused to back down.
"Ava," Tanisha said softly, taking my hand. "Let's just go," she whispered.
"Yes," Aisha said, taking Priya's arm. "Run away newbie, before you're not able to. Priya is not in a good mood today, and I'm sure you wouldn't like to become a victim to her rage."
"I wouldn't want to," I replied, looking Priya in her eye. "It would suck to be attacked by a wild cat."
"You bloody newbie!" Priya yelled, pushing me by the shoulder so my back hit the lockers. I winced as pain shot through my back, and Priya caught hold of my chin. "I'll show you what an animal I can turn-"
"That's enough," a calm voice announced, cutting Priya off. A chill went down my spine, and I shifted my gaze to the floor, feeling the fear from the previous days return to me. Ace and Darren walked up to us, and I gulped, as Ace gently took Priya by the shoulder, and pulled her away from me. His gaze was stuck on me as he did that, and I rubbed my jaw to ease the slight pain from her hold. "Calm down, Priya," he said to her, putting his arm around her shoulder. "Patience."
Priya's jaw was still clenched, and she glared daggers at me, but did not make another move to hurt me. It made one thing clear; Ace was the Alpha of the Wolves, and he was the one who despised me the most out of them. I just had to punch the leader, didn't I?
"Don't hurt her," Ace said, staring at me.
"You're going too lenient on her, babe. She needs to be taught a lesson," Sapphire said, scowling at me.
"She will," Ace reassured his girlfriend. "But slowly, gradually. If I let Priya have her way, our little duckling will be sent off to a hospital in less than an hour. Now where's the fun in that?" Ace smirked, his eye glinting with something evil. The exact same thing I had seen in the washroom.
I turned to leave, when Ace stepped forward and slammed his hand on the locker beside me, blocking my way. A gasp escaped my lips, and I looked up at him with wide eyes, my heart beat pacing already.
"Where do you think you're going?" He chuckled.
"Away from you," I replied, trying to go from under his arm. He placed his hands on my shoulders, gripping onto them, holding me in place.
"You don't get to do that," he scrunched his nose up, shaking his head at me. Darren hooted and whistled, earning attention from students around, while Aisha and Sapphire had smirks stretching over their lips. Ace pulled me away from the lockers, and put his arm around me, making me walk with him. I tried to push him away, but his grip onto me tightened, making me wince again.
"You're hurting me," I snapped, continuing to struggle as I glared up at him.
"Oh, I'm sorry," he frowned, loosening his grip. He moved to stand right in front of me. "Wouldn't want to leave marks, would we?" He said, his fingers tracing over my arms. I stepped away from him, clenching my jaw. "Anyway, how about you and I go for a little ride, Ava?" He asked, stepping forward and taking my hand in his. I tried to yank it out of his grip, but he tugged at it, making me bump into his chest.
"I'm not going anywhere with you!" I said, stepping away from him. He kept his grip on my wrist tight so I would not run away.
"Why?" He frowned, feigning hurt. "Am I not good enough for you? Will my care not be up to your standards?" He asked, raising an eyebrow.
"No, you're not good enough for me," I replied, managing to pull my hand out of his grip, taking a few steps back. "And I have to attend a class right now. My father isn't the Mayor, you know. Some of us actually have to work hard."
"Who do you think you are?" Aisha stared at me with a scowl on her face. But Ace chuckled, distracting her. He clapped, grinning at me.
"Three claps for the best dialogue delivery ever," he smirked, before dropping his hands to his sides. "See it's simple," Ace shrugged, slowly walking backwards. "Either you come with me," he stopped right beside Tanisha, "or she does. Your choice, Ava. I'd personally prefer her, by the way," he stated, winking at her.
Tanisha's eyes widened in fear, and she backed away from him, into the lockers. I bit my lip, taking a deep breath to calm myself down. More than fear, I felt rage spreading through me like a wave. All I wanted was to punch him in the face again. Ace Argent really brought out my violent side. One I did not even know existed before crossing paths with him.
"Fine," I announced, holding my books close to my chest. "I'll go."
"No, Ava," Tanisha cried, shaking her head. She tried to run to me, but Darren stepped in and blocked her way, grinning at her. "Ava, it's okay!" She said. "I'll go. You don't have to do this for me."
"This isn't about you anymore," I sighed, shifting my gaze to the side. "He's just using you to blackmail me."
"Oh, turns out the girl does have a brain," Priya mocked, smirking. She turned to Ace, her curly black hair twirling in the air near her waist. "So can we come, or you're having all the fun alone again?" She asked.
Ace smirked, slowly walking towards me, his predatory gaze stuck on me. "This one's all mine."

"If we go back and I find out your friends have hurt Tanisha, Ace, I swear I'll-"
"You'll what?" He snapped, raising an eyebrow at me.
"I'll break your face," I stated, looking at him defiantly. We were in his jeep, and he was driving us somewhere. I had no idea about our destination, since I was still fairly new to the city and did not recognize much of the roads.
Ace chuckled at my words, shifting his gaze back to the road. "You have some guts in you, gotta give you that. I thought I had you in the washroom that day, when you were trembling like a leaf, with tears in your eyes. Yet here you are, daring to threaten me while being alone with me, in my jeep."
"You better get used to this now, Mr. Ace Argent," I said confidently. "Because you got me at a weak moment back then. It's not happening again. I am not afraid of-ah!" My sentence was cut off by the scream that escaped my lips, as Ace made a sharp turn to the right, the sound of the drifting tyres sending a wave of fear through me. "Are you crazy?" I yelled, holding onto the dashboard, and making sure my seatbelt was buckled.
"You were saying something about not being afraid," Ace said calmly, an amused smile playing on his lips.
"Stop the car," I said, only now realising how fast we were going. We were in a hilly area, with trees surrounding us. My eyes widened when I saw the kind of turns we were approaching, and I gulped, holding onto the seat. "Ace, stop the car," I repeated, since he ignored me the first time.
"You and I both know I'm not doing that," he replied, before turning the steering wheel to the left. The jeep drifted again, making me close my eyes shut, pursing my lips. Ace's laughter echoed in the air, along with the loud sounds of the jeep and its tyres, making me let out a small whimper. "You're not having fun?" He asked, taking another turn. I gulped, keeping my eyes shut, as my head started to spin, and I felt bile rise up my throat.
"Ace," I said softly, grabbing onto his sleeve. "If you don't stop this vehicle and let me out of it this instant, I will literally puke on your jeep's luxurious interior that your daddy spent a lot of money for!" I yelled at the top of my voice, also proceeding to retch as loudly as I could.
Ace grimaced, scrunching up his nose in disgust as he pressed on the brakes. "If you vomit in here I'll throw you off this Cliff," Ace said through gritted teeth, as the jeep came to a stop. "Get out," he stated, pressing the unlock button on his door.
"Yeah, I feel fine now," I said, taking a deep breath. "You have some water?"
Ace scowled at me, his jaw clenched. "Sure," he said, reaching his hand in the door pocket to retrieve a half-full bottle of water. He handed it to me and I took it, removing the cap and bringing it to my lips. Before I could take a sip, Ace hit the lower end of the bottle, causing the ice-cold water to get spilt onto my clothes, books and face. A loud gasp escaped my lips as I coughed, staring down at my books, and then at him incredulously.
"What are you, five?" I snapped, shivering from the cold.
"Maybe, but at least I'm dry," he replied, smirking.
I gritted my teeth and narrowed my eyes at him, before trying to spill the rest of the water onto his head. He quickly caught hold of my wrist, as well as the bottle, and snatched it from my hand. Glaring at me, he emptied the remaining water directly onto my head, making me scream. He grinned in amusement, tossing the empty bottle into the back seat, while I sat there gaping, drenched in cold water, in a city that was already too chilly for me.
"Now that we're done here, you can get out my car."
