Running or Hunting?

1700 Words
I stood close to the stage as Eli took his oath as Alpha. I was so incredibly proud of him - as my best friend finally living up to his one true dream and also as my mate. I could slowly feel the mating bond snapping into place the more I watched Eli - I was mesmerized at how handsome he was, how strong he was for the pack and how caring and gentle he could be with me. That’s when I smelled chocolate and coffee - Alpha Hunter was a mere couple feet from me and he had his eyes set on me. He smiled at me and I swear the world stopped - in that moment it was just the two of us staring into each other’s eyes, trying to figure out this mess. He at least waiting until the end of the ceremony to speak to me - Elijah was so caught up with pack members congratulating him, he hadn’t even noticed Hunter making a beeline straight to me. Hunter spoke immediately “I don’t think we had a chance to be formally introduced - I’m Alpha Hunter of the Crescent Moon pack. I wanted to apologize for earlier - I saw you holding hands with Elijah and I saw red. I wanted to mark you then and there to make a point.” Woah - this big bad alpha actually apologized? Is that even heard of?! I found myself smiling shyly at him, “I’m Reese, daughter of Beta Reggie. And I think we are all just as confused by the situation - no need to apologize.” “Ah, that must be why your scent is so strong. Daughter of a Beta - makes sense now!” Hunter said with that million dollar smirk of his. “Well Alpha Hunter” -“You can just call me Hunter” - “Okay...Hunter. I was just going to step out for an evening run, so you’ll have to excuse me. I’ll be back later and we can discuss our....situation.” I wanted to get out of there fast. What was I supposed to say to him - Hi, I’m Reese. I’ve already been mated to another Alpha that I grew up with and we are best friends. Sorry, you’re not needed?! Ugh. My life was SO screwed up. Just as I was about to turn away, Hunter grabbed my wrist, “You know, I was thinking the same thing. Mind if I join you?” Oh Goddess...what do I do? This is my mate...I can’t just say no! Before I can really start to panic, Eli shows up out of nowhere, “Did I hear you are going on a run? I have yet to see your wolf, little Ree-Ree. Let’s all go.” Did he just suggest all three of us go together? And did he have to use my childhood nickname? What game is he playing at? “Uh...sure. There’s enough ground for the three of us. Why not?” I’m thinking I might end up regretting this decision. We make our way to the east end of the pack house and I make both guys turn around while I undress. I should’ve thought of that before because now I’m staring at two very firm, very defined nice asses. Thank you, Goddess! Before they catch on I’m checking them out from behind, I shift quick. I’ve gotten really good at shifting since I take Remi for runs so often. Once shifted, Remi takes control and lets out a playful bark to get Eli and Hunter’s attention. They both turn around and smile back at Remi. She prances up to them, definitely with a little extra pep in her step, and let’s them greet her. Both Eli and Hunter are at eye level now. Eli places his forehead on Remi’s and she responds with a huge lick across his face, which he lets out a thunderous laughter. Hunter does the same and Remi gives him a gentle kiss on the neck. Before I know it, Eli and Hunter are both shifted into their massive alpha wolves. Remi being the tease that she is takes off running. Remi is a fast wolf - she can definitely give these alphas a challenge. We are running for what seems like miles before Remi finally comes to a stop and looks around - only to realize neither of her mates have followed her. Remi where did they go? Did you really outrun them?? I knew you were fast, but damn girl! Remi is quiet for a second before she responds I don’t think we are just running anymore, Ree. I think our alphas have decided to hunt us! What? Hunt us? What’s the point of that? It’s a game of sorts, but it also gives us a chance to give them a challenge. Even though they are alphas, we are their Luna and their equal. I say let’s make this a little interesting! Uh oh - what is she up to?! Remi starts sweeping back the way we came, but making a huge circle so we don’t bump right into either alpha. That’s when she makes a mistake - just as she’s stepping over a fallen tree, she steps on a branch and it snaps. Literally the only noise in the entire forest and here we are trying to give our alphas a challenge. It doesn’t take long for both alphas to be on to us. Remi starts running full speed - it’s then I notice she’s running straight towards the cliff that looks over the pack lake. Remi slow down! You don’t want to go flying off the Cliff! She doesn’t slow down and instead responds - What are you worried about? You’re the one that goes cliff diving and besides, you’re a great swimmer! You have nothing to worry about! I don’t like the sound of that - she has something up her sleeve and she’s not telling me. I can hear paws hitting the ground behind us - they must be right on our tail. Remi is running full speed towards the cliff and showing no sign of slowing down. Remi - what are you doing! Stop! Just as I’m about to take control, she leaps off the cliff and throws me to the front of my mind just in time for me to shift and land smoothly in the lake below. I come up from the water and look back up to the cliff, expecting to see two pissed off alphas because let’s be honest, that was extremely reckless, but neither of them are up there. Huh - they must be making their way down to the lake. I start to swim towards shore when I feel something grab my leg and pull me back. What the hell was that? I turn back, but find no one in the lake with me. I start to swim back to shore when I bump into a solid wall - looking up, it’s Hunter! He must’ve jumped off the cliff at the same time as me! “You forgot to mention you’re an adrenal junkie - He says while laughing “ - That was the biggest rush I’ve had in a while!” I can’t help but laugh with him - Remi was set on giving them a challenge and she did just that. “Ree, that was pretty damn impressive, but don’t you think it was a tad reckless? You could’ve hurt yourself!” I turn around to see Eli swimming next to me - they both followed me off that cliff! “Uh yeah, sorry about that. Remi was set on not being caught. She’s a little wild at times!” They both laugh and we start our swim back to shore. As we get closer to the shore, it’s then I realize our clothes are way back by the pack house. Oh no! I’m so not ready for this - I know they are my mates, but I know how out of control alphas can get with their mates. They both step out of the water and start walking back towards the pack house, expecting me to follow. I linger a little further behind debating what to do. It’s now or never, Ree. They are our mates. There is nothing to be shy about! Thanks for the pep talk Rem - still a little nervous about this though. I slowly walk out of the water and instantly feel eyes on me. Eli and Hunter’s eyes have both gone all black, showing their wolves are in control. I cover my chest up with my arms and begin to slowly walk up to them. “Don’t ever think you need to hide yourself from me - you’re my mate. You’re beautiful and have the body of a goddess” Eli says, while slowly leaning in to me. Hunter looks like he’s struggling with his wolf to take back control - finally, his eyes return to normal and he gives me a wink, then continues walking towards the pack house. We all get back just as people are leaving to head home for the night - we must’ve been gone for quiet a while! We get dressed again and I turn to both my alphas, set on everything that needs to be discussed, “well alphas, I think we need to have a chat about our situation, don’t you think?”
