“What?” I asked, widening my eyes to stare at them in disbelief, “He is down there because he wanted to help us, he could have easily fled away from this scene.” I tried to kick some sense out of them but I understand that they were scared.
“Yeah! He wanted to help us, so we are helping him help us by not getting in danger.” Caz shrugged his shoulders, trying to make sense out of his nonsense.
“Fine, you guys stay here, I will go down.” I didn’t wait for the other’s input and grabbed the bat Hila had brought up with her when climbing on the roof.
“I will come with you,” To my surprise, Kai held my hand and shared a look with me.
“Kai!” Irene held his other hand and stopped him, “We need you,” she whispered in her mouth, acting all innocent and needy.
“It is fine, Kai. I can handle myself.” I slid my hand out of his hand and prepared for the terrifying scene ahead.
“Caz! Take care of her.” Kai’s words caught my attention when I saw him freeing himself from Irene’s grip and giving me a nod. His action truly won my heart, he did it for me, he chose me over her.
“You ready?” he asked, looking around for a weapon.
“You hold this and clear the way, I will grab the key.” I handed him the bat and slowly got down with him, “let’s go.” I said in my mouth.
As we joined the crowd, the zombie’s attention diverted from the car and landed on us. Kai and I were standing with our backs attached, ready to protect ourselves against these dead, walking people.
I kicked the one approaching me while Kai smashed the head of the others. The others were shouting from the roof, guiding us about the attack. Since they were on the top, they get to see things more clearly.
“To your right, Vivi!” as I was focused on the zombie in front of me, the one on my right had gotten much closer, but an alarming call from Ricky made me turn to my right hold the head of the zombie to push him back. Fighting them with no weapon was hard, it was hard to keep up with others when you were so focused on keeping yourself safe.
Now that Kai was using the bat to smash the head of the zombies, I was busy locating the keys.
“Got em!” I shouted accidentally, grabbing the attention of the zombie nearby, that lunged at me. I blocked the attack with my hand but it made the zombie almost get his teeth in my skin when a knife went through its head and it fell backward.
“Here!” Ravyn had gotten out of the Van, waving at us to get inside. I moved forward, only to step back and hurriedly pulled the knife out of the zombie’s head and taking it along. I kept stabbing the zombies in my way until we made it inside the van.
Their grunts subsided inside the van but their hands across the windows were actually a pretty creepy sight to witness.
“Keys,” I was sitting in the passenger side with Ravyn in the driving seat whilst Kai was in the back seat, looking around to make sure none of those things get inside.
Ravyn pushed the key and the engine started, I can’t ever imagine that such a small thing would bring such a big smile onto my lips.
“Yayyy!” Both Kai and I cheered, high-fiving each other in triumph, “You were amazing back there,” Kai bent ahead and whispered in my ear, quickly pulling back in his seat with a cute smile on his lips.
“Thanks,” ignoring the grunts and groans of the zombies, I still managed to blush at his compliment. Once I looked ahead, I noticed Ravyn shaking his head with a smile on his lips for us being too cringy maybe.
He drove the car closer to the café, where everybody was and one by one, we helped everyone in. It was such a success to have us all safely transported to a car.
“Wow! Never knew Vivi would turn out to be such a badas*,” Rickey tapped on my shoulder to grab my attention from the back seat. Ricky and Kai were in the backseat while Irene and Leo behind them, the last ones were Hila and Caz.
“Thank you,” I raised my brow to respond to him in pride, making him shake his head at me and laugh smoothly. I noticed the agitation in Kai’s existence, he was secretly watching us whilst pretending to be listening to Irene and whatever her interests were at that moment.
“Where are we headed towards now?” I asked Ravyn, whose giant existence was hard to ignore. I can’t lie, even when we hadn’t showered in two days, this man smelled like a breath of fresh air. He was not only dressed up properly like a superhero from movies, but his personality was also very eye-catching.
And he was only 19, crazy how stable and put together he was.
“I will drop you all to the G-safe square,” he replied, focusing on the road and dodging the zombies.
It was crazy how the once used to be populated areas now consisted of piles and piles of dead bodies.
“Why, you are not coming with us?” Ricky was the only one among others to share the same interests as me. He would ask and say the same things that I would be thinking, so, it was nice to know somebody would be backing me up if I pitch an idea.
“I have to go somewhere,” he replied, “for someone.” His hard grip over the steering wheel made me understand what he meant. He was probably worried for a loved one, well, we were all stuck in the apocalypse, all tired and love sick.
“Who among you can drive?” once we had almost reached the safest zone, Ravyn slowed down and turned to us, making sure he doesn’t give the steering to someone who gets us all killed.
“I can drive,” Kai raised his head and after sharing a nod with Ravyn, he got out to take the wheel.
“You are leaving?” I questioned, a visible frown on my forehead as I watched him getting ready to leave, “Your knife,” I pulled his knife out and he shook his head.
“Keep it,” he got out of the car after murmuring and soon his place was taken over by Kai.
“Make sure you guys don’t split up and keep it as soundless as you can,” he said his last words and then dashed out like a flash to climb a building. Kai had started the engine but we were still immersed in his skills of climbing a straight building like a fr***** spider.
“Wow!” Irene parted her lips to praise Ravyn but soon shut up when Kai adjusted the rearview mirror at her, which slightly put me off. It seemed as he was just annoyed with any girl praising anyone else but him, I could be wrong but it seemed like so at that moment.
