Elena
"Dad I don't understand what is going on. Who is that man following me around in black" I banged open the door and stormed in. My Dad was seated at his office chair reading on his never ending history books which I don't have interest or care to know about. His black coffee sizzling hot by the side. I was filled up with rage.
I was expecting him to be alarmed at my outburst yet he wa seated calmly, he bookmarked the book and dropped it gently by the side before focusing on me. I was on the verge of bursting. "He's your new bodyguard"
"I know exactly. But when did all these started? Why the need of a bodyguard?" I literally don't know why he assigned me a bodyguard. Jaxon has been an earful enough. If only I was a carefree person like every normal person. Okay, not like I was deprived of anything but I was known. People know me not only as a popular interior designer but the Ambassador's daughter. How would that get any better for me.
He stood up and walked his way towards me. My Dad is not a young man but he's someone I admire. He has that young aura lurking around him. "Because it is for your own good. The time for the election is near. I don't want you going around anyhow without a protection. I hired the best in the city. He has a very good profile. Outstanding and calm" In as much as I listened to him naming out the man's quality, I didn't fail to roll my eyes.
"That isn't my concern Dad. I've been perfectly fine all these while. I don't need anyone watching over me. Jaxon will be back in a few days. He will do that. And don't tell me that man covering his face like a serial killer will follow me around" What he said next made my heart pick up it pace with beating. I have forgotten about the lie to make up before coming back home. "Thought you were going to get a package? Were you able to get it?"
Every joint of me was alerted. "Um..Yes..I was able to get the package. I dropped it at my office on my way back" I blamed my head for stuttering at the beginning. Dad is a good observer. If I'm not extra careful he will see right through me. I masked it up with a smile. "Stop worrying Dad. I'm safe as you can see"
"Your Dad will not be at peace in as much as the elections are on"
"Seriously Dad. I don't need a bodyguard. Did you even see the way he was all rude to me? No Dad. Cancel this bodyguard thing" with that, I turned around to leave when his next work made me halt on my step.
"Oh you guys met already?" His eyes held curiosity. I bite my bottom lip. Only if he didn't poke his nose in matters that doesn't concern him. If only he didn't see me and Nick.
"Yes. We met outside" I exclaimed. "Dad I don't need a bodyguard. I can keep protect myself. I'm not a child"
"I'm not going back on my word. His name is Victor. Get along with him"
I didn't care how he'd take it, I stormed out of the office, the same way I entered shutting the door with a loud thud. Victor? He doesn't look a bit like his name. There's no way in hell I will get along with him.
He thinks he can scare me off with his mere threats. Just because he saw me with Nick doesn't mean I will succumb to him. But then again, I was taken aback when he said he has the evidence that will expose Nick. He was brave enough to say that. He doesn't expect me to believe him.
"Are you going to stand there staring into space" My Mom's face brought me back from the trance. She was holding a bowl of what I don't know towards the dining table that was already filled up with all sort of food. Sometimes I used to think all the food we cook in the house is too much. Like, it's just the three of us excluding Jaxon. Dad doesn't eat that much. Sometimes I get busy with work that I eat out before coming back home. Unless the maids wants to take it to their family.
I grabbed my seat and folded my hands together. "I'm starving Mom" I uttered instead. No matter how full you are, my mom's food will tempt you enough to taste it. Except Jaxon who always disagree with me. They always ended up bickering with her. How I missed him. I can't wait for him to be back. Maybe, Dad will withdraw the bodyguard thing. Jaxon is the only person that has the upper hand of convincing him. Point of correction, after Mom. She has that effect on him.
Talking of Dad, he was out in no minute, I guess the aroma of the food has gotten to him already. Both of them grabbed their seats and we began eating. As quietly as we began eating, the ringing of Dad's phone broke the silence.
I turned a deaf ear to his conversation knowing it will be about his business or some politics talks until he mentioned Victor. I was alerted. I was curious to know what he will talk next. Maybe he will tell him not to come again. There's no need for any bodyguard work. Only for me to lose the remaining appetite I had in me at his next statement.
"Is that so? Come in then" the words repeated in my head. I waited till he cut the call before I began. "Dad I thought we're done talking about the bodyguard stuffs?"
The only response I got was a look. And it was that kind of look that shows no room for any argument. He wiped his lips with the table napkin and stood up. Just as I was about to open my mouth and talk, the sound of the door being opened, revamped to our ears. We have that kind of door that makes a screeching sound. Dad doesn't want to change it that it will be a means of alarm whenever someone wants to get inside. An intruder or a thief. Like I wonder how that will be possible with the amount of security in our house. It will be hard for someone to get pass the gates talk more of the entrance door.
Okay, I won't say the man that stepped inside the room isn't that all handsome but he undeniable made my heart skipped a beat. I don't know whether it was because of the interaction between us in the early time of the night or the way he spoke to me with his pious voice back then. But there's no denying my heart hammered in my chest when our eyes met. Which lasted for not less than five seconds before my inside was replaced with anger. No rage is the right word to use. How dare he!
"Dad-" I didn't get to lift myself up the chair when my Mom pulled me back throwing me her daggers. Same way my Dad did few minutes ago. The look shows behave yourself. And that made the rage in my chest grew two fold. I only needed another gesture to blow off.
"Let's go to my study room" Came my Dad's voice. Up to the moment he began making steps towards us, our eyes didn't waver from one another. A hiss made it's way out of me when I caught a glimpse of his smile. Did he seriously smile? He's taking me as a joke.
"Seriously Mom you and Dad should know assigning me a bodyguard won't make a difference. If anyone wants to attack Dad they will"
"You shouldn't pray for such thing to happen. I'm hundred percent supporting him in this. Our decision is final"
Maybe they have forgotten the kind of person their daughter is. I won't accept defeat so easily. I pulled the chair back and stood up. I didn't care to knock on the door, I pushed the door open on one go. Four pairs of eyes greeted me. There's no mistaken his eyes were sign of danger. But I couldn't care less. Danger or not, I won't allow him to follow me around like a bug. Because that's exactly what bodyguards do.
"Elena we're not done talking yet" Father uttered breaking the few seconds silence that fell in the room . If I don't say my mind, I won't be rest assured. I don't allow anything to bother me.
"I know. I can't agree to this Dad. I don't need a bodyguard. If your mind won't be rest assured, you can assign Jaxon to watch over me" I stated. I would rather have Jaxon watch over me than any stranger. And not him.
The smile was still plastered on his face. The urge to slap that off his face grew in me. I'm sure he wore the same smile when he stood me up in the highway. Blabbering all sort of nonsense to me.
"Listen Elena, this is not a play thing you thought. I have made myself clear. Victor will be your bodyguard henceforth. Till he decide to withdraw back or I choose to let him go. Victor, I think we're done discussing. Please don't mind my daughter she can be childish at times"
Childish? Did he seriously say that in-front of a stranger.
Dad stood up from his seat and proceeded to the door. "I will leave you two to get familiar with each other" He said again walking out.
"You-"
"Nice meeting you Miss Elena" Victor profound pushing his hand forward. That smile was still there. This time around, I could see a bit of his teeth.
"It wasn't nice meeting you. Don't even think you will get along with me. I don't care about what my Dad saw in you or why he's hell bent on assigning me a bodyguard. But know this..." I trailed off boldly marching forward leaving few space between us.
"You're never going to get what you want from me"
"Okay, I will cut my story short. You know my name already. I don't want to brag to you. But I'm one of the outstanding agent in this whole city. Your father was piqued at my profile which was why he wants me to be your shield. But then again, I'm surprise at your boldness. For the fact that, I know a secret you don't want anyone knowing about"
My eyes widened to a certain degree. I have forgotten about him seeing me with Nick. He knows everything. I wrapped my arms around my chest in hopes of hiding my nervousness when he spoke up again. "Anyways, I hope we get along Miss Elena" He forcefully grabbed my hand and shake it. Leaving me in a state of confusion and a mixture of rage inside me. Rage due to the fact that, I have nothing to do to change what has happened.
