MALIA POV.
Just like the photos, the place looked deserted, and it was eerily silent as Amelia, and I moved further on past the lobby. The soft footfalls of our feet could barely be heard as we went through a broken-down gate that used to be a door. I inspected the hinges of the gate, but they looked only to be rusted and broke out of the wall and did not look as if it was torn off by anything supernatural. With the broken glass and gravity and broken object scattered around, it looked like it had been longer that three years ago that it had been abandoned. I looked over at my sister as she inspected the graffiti. Just like me, she was dressed in comfortable looking black jeans and black durable boots and we both had on black tank tops with leather jackets. Cliché, I know, but we always like to dress similar and when we were out like this, we almost always wore black.
I slipped a strand of my long dark hair behind my ear as I tried to listen for sounds. There was nothing. When I looked over to Amelia, she pointed to her nose before shaking her head. Nothing. She did not pick up on any smells and I frowned. Since we started hunting those them, this is what we did. Since her smell sense was better than mine, she did the sniffing and since my hearing was better, I did the listening. It’s not that our senses were weak… we still had all the traits of a werewolf, but with years of experimenting, some things were just more advanced as the other.
But something felt odd. This place was too…. Abandoned. I couldn’t hear any rats or insects crawling around. I stopped and put my hand onto my sister’s arm, and she turned to me, thinking I picked up on something, but I shook my head. “I’m not picking up any sounds.” I whisper spoke and she nodded that she understood and started to walk again, but I held her arm, making her look back at me with a frown. “No, you don’t get it. There’s nothing here. No insects, no animals. There wasn’t even bird chirping when we got here, and I still don’t hear a thing except for our own feet.” I said and her eyes widened a little. “That’s strange, but now that you mention it. I can’t pick up any scents, not even old ones.” She spoke and we both shuddered as a cold feeling went down our spines.
“This is wrong. We shouldn’t be here; something is not right.” I spoke and the words barely made it out my mouth when I heard a static sound, like when you spoke on a walkie talkie, but it didn’t sound as if it was from here, but from further away into the trees. I snapped my head back towards the lobby as it was Amelia’s turn to grab my arm this time. “What is it?” She asked, but I have already started making my way back to the entrance. “Someone else is here. We are being watched.” I said as Amelia fell into step with me. “How do you know?” She asked as she checked her surroundings for someone, that should not be here. “Because it was further away from where Jackson and Oliver are keeping watch and werewolves don’t use walkie talkies.” I said as we made it to the lobby, but we didn’t stop as we continued to run. “We need to mind link them; tell them we are not alone.” Amelia said and I nodded just as we sprinted outside. “Ryker. We’re not alone, we need to…” My link got severed when I felt myself being propelled forward through the air. A burning sensation filled with pain and the burning smell of leather made its way to my nose. The son of a b***h hit me blasted me in the back, I thought to myself as I landed hard on the tar ground of the driveway in front of the building that my body actually bounced up from the ground and landed on my side. My ears were ringing as pain jolted through my body and I couldn’t get myself to move. I tried screaming, but the air got knocked out from my lungs and I was struggling to get air back in. I opened my eyes and everywhere I looked, it was filled with smoke around me, and again, I tried to move, but I couldn't.
I must have passed out, because the next thing I knew, I felt my body slightly swaying and when I opened my eyes, I was looking towards the ground. It was not concrete or tar, but forest floor and I could see the heels of a person. I was being carried over the shoulder of someone. I couldn’t tell who it was, but it wasn’t my mate because if it were, then I would have been a little higher off the ground the man carrying me was shorter than my mate. I grunted in pain when the man almost faltered in his walk on the uneven forest floor, and he stopped. He must have heard me, because I cried out in pain again when he set me down, but I was thankful that he had the common sense to put me down onto my side and not my back.
I couldn’t see his face and I tried to get his scent, but all I could smell was burn and couldn’t hear him because my ears ached as it sang loudly in my head. with my senses jumbled, I only had my sight to tell me what was going on and even that couldn’t tell me much as everything I could see looked the same. I tried to move again, but the little bit that I could, only caused me pain and I startled when a hand touched my shoulder. I looked up and anger flowed through me as I saw that Weasel’s face. I f*****g knew it! I growled at him, but he merely laughed. At least it looked like he was laughing because I couldn’t hear it except for the ringing in my ears, but I cried out in pain when he bent to pick me back up, but a shadow came out from between the woods, and I saw Weasel fly through the air. A huge black and gray wolf appeared in front of my vision. The wolf seemed to be standing protectively in front of me as he bared his teeth at Weasel. To my content, Weasel looked like he was about to piss his pants as his eyes darted around in a panic and I knew why, when more wolves started to emerge from behind trees. None of them looked familiar, but I was thankful that they showed up when they did, because I could feel myself starting to slip into darkness again. I blinked furiously and tried to move again to try and stay awake, but the pain in my body hindered that. Two wolves were circling Weasel as he tried to look for a way out, but before he could do anything, and to my satisfaction, the two leaped at him and their jaws each clamped over one of his arms.
My attention was taken from Weasel, when I felt a hand on my shoulder and when I looked up, my eyes widened. The wolf that saved me had shifted and was crouching beside me and looked at me worriedly. I know those eyes… I know his face, but what was he doing here?” I thought, but that was all I managed before my body gave out once again, and I slipped into darkness.
RYKER POV.
“DID YOU FIND HER?” I roared over the rubble of what was once a building. Everything went to s**t so fast and when Malia and her sister were hit by what ever the f*****g flaming thing it was, everything turned to s**t really fast. When I saw Malia and Amelia come running out, I knew there was something wrong. Lyker did to. “Malia was mind linking me before they went down, and I swear my heart nearly stopped. Suddenly out of nowhere, we were ambushed and fired on. Some of my men were hit with being taken by surprise, but the others, like me and my brother, immediately shifted into our humanoid wolves. Our men went to take care of the threat, while we fought our way to our mates, but we weren’t fast enough. Malia was lying so still I almost thought she was dead, but the fact that the mate bond was still intact, gave me hope that there was still time. As Lyker and I tried to make it to them from the other side of the building, it suddenly exploded, sending rubble and debris every where and shooting dust up from the ground that nearly made it impossible to breath or see. It took us a while, because we were attacked as soon as we emerged under the rubble and when we finally managed to get to our mates, they were gone. Oliver managed to get to Amelia as she was being dragged of by a military suited human, but he quickly snapped his head off, and secured his Luna, but Malia was nowhere to be seen.
Whoever attacked us, they were gone now, but we made sure to kill a lot of their men, before they did. Now we needed to find my mate. Maybe she managed to get away from the fighting.
“Over here.” I heard Jackson call out and nearly fell over the broken bricks to get to where he was standing of on one side. “What did you find?” I asked as he hunched down on his naked legs and pointed towards footprints in the dirt. I grit my teeth as I glared at him. “There are footprints everywhere, Jackson. What the f**k makes these so different?” I growled and he shakily pulled back a few leaves of a plant. It had smears of blood on it and Jackson picked the leaves off and handed it to me. I took it and as soon as I had it in hand, Malia’s scent met my nose. I held the leaves closer to my noses and I grit my teeth as I confirmed that it was her blood. She was hurt and somebody had her.
“What the hell are we waiting for, we need to follow the trail.” I said as stalked passed him. ”We can’t alpha.” He said and he looked at me in remorse. “The scent ends here. The blood ends here and the footprints end at a stream a few minutes’ walk from here.” He said and he bent his head in submission when I growled at him. “Fine! I’ll do it myself.” I said angrily and marched off.
