Sue’s breathing was still erratic from the kiss as they silently walked back to the cave. She allowed Rick to walk ahead of her so she could take a few seconds to compose herself and get her wandering thoughts under control.
Rick broke the silence with a question he was musing over. He spoke over his shoulder back at her, “If you didn’t leave, where have you been the rest of the day?”
“Pretty much where you left me. I had some thinking to do,” she said with a shrug he could not see but could well hear in her voice.
“And after all those hours of thought… the only concrete decision you came up with is… you want to fall in love,” Rick mused aloud with incredulity.
“What’s the matter? Too big of a challenge for you?” she challenged, even though she felt uncertain and shaky.
