Delay

Hank Corey: Good morning hot stuff! I hope you had a night filled with wet dreams about me! Be safe on the road today and when you get to work, please, pretty please, be safe! Any plans for Saturday? I was thinking about coming over to your place? Maybe have some dinner and talk? I read and re-read Corey’s message as I smiled. The guy was a total sweetheart, and he always got my blood pumping. I finally shoved my phone back into my pocket without answering. I would do that later when I could tease him without worrying about anyone noticing the hard-on in my pants. “Let me guess…Corey?” Jake asked as he expertly drove the truck toward our current job site. “Yup,” I answered as I leaned back in my seat and relaxed. Jake wasn’t just my partner at work, he was my best friend. That meant he knew all about Corey. All of it. “Dude, is that ever going to happen or are you forever going to live in that friendship bubble?” he questioned. I didn’t answer him because I had no idea what to say. When I had first met Corey, I had been hooked. His sweet, pretty smile. His charm. His laughter. The guy was the total package. Not only was he cute as a button, but he was sexy, confident, kind, and unbelievably feisty. He turned me on hotter than a hotcake and that was saying a lot. I had a type, and I didn’t explore anything outside of that. Corey Max was exactly my type. And he ticked off all the boxes. The only problem was that Corey had been hurt. Badly. His ex not only cheated on him but stole and lied constantly. It was no surprise that my little bunny needed to learn how to crawl again, let alone walk or run. I had patience. Plenty of it and I didn’t mind waiting for him. Not even a little bit. Sure, a few one-night stands had scratched the itch, but I had no problem using my right hand to get the job done. I got everything else I needed from Corey. We were good friends. Really, really good friends. I could – and do – sit with him for hours and just talk. I knew Corey better than the man sitting next to me. And that said a lot since I grew up with Jake. “Take a left up ahead,” I said instead of answering his question. Jake grunted in response as he took the next left. I smirked as I glanced over at him. “How’s Alessa going?” I then asked. Jake’s whole expression lit up at the mere thought of his wife. “Good…she’s getting everything ready,” “I bet,” I remarked as I saw the construction site come into view. “She’s about ready to pop, isn’t she?” I knew exactly how far along Alessa was. I also knew that she was expected to give birth in the upcoming week. “Just about, yeah,” he answered as he pulled into the lot. No one else was here yet, which, in my opinion, was a good thing. I always liked to check things out before everyone else arrived. Jake parked and we hopped out. The client had purchased a piece of land and was determined to build a movie theater. It was a good spot for something like that, but I had my doubts. The drive in was perfect for Chasea. Then again, what did I know? The whole concept was to build the movie theater, a parking lot and that was it. Nothing else. “Do you think this is a good idea?” I asked Jake curiously. The guy was married to a woman who owned an interior and exterior designing company. I knew my s**t, but I was the guy who built the shell. I didn’t decorate. Ever. “Alessa said it’s a good idea. She mentioned some statistics, but…you know what that means,” he winked, and I rolled my eyes. I wasn’t going to comment on that, so I merely turned my attention back to the vacant land. There was nothing here. Which also meant none of the materials had arrived, and that wasn’t a good thing. Jake must have been thinking the same thing because he pulled out his phone and the next thing, I heard was him talking to Alastair. I decided that since there was nothing to do and Jake was momentarily busy, I could text back Corey. Hank: Hey, little bunny…I don’t have any plans for Saturday, so I’ll see you then! And of course, I woke up this morning and had to wash my sheets…you always come in my dreams. I hit send and chuckled as I imagined him reading my message. His face would probably go that adorable shade of pink, and then he would try to hide his reaction. I shoved my phone back into my pocket just as Jake finished up with Alastair. “Ok, so there was a delay, and they are on their way,” he said, and the annoyance in his voice was clear. He was not impressed, and neither was I. “Alastair said he will be here in about ten minutes with breakfast…so I guess that’s a bonus,” I didn’t comment on that because I loved food, so I wasn’t about to complain. It also didn’t matter that I hadn’t eaten yet. It was a bonus, just as Jake had said. “So…we have a couple of minutes…are you going to answer my earlier question?” Jake stood in front of me as he crossed his arms. He had that serious, no BS, look on his face, and that only meant one thing. He wasn’t going to let it go. “Fine, to answer your question…I don’t know. Corey is coming over on Saturday, and he wants to talk…maybe this is it, maybe it isn’t…but I do know that it is none of your business,” “f**k you…it is my business. My best friend deserves to be as happy as I am,” he stated firmly, and I couldn’t help but smile. That was one thing I loved about him. Jake was a simple guy who wanted everyone around him to be happy. There was absolutely nothing wrong with that.
