Chapter Two

930 Words
"Yeah, new kids, both girls." McKenzie stated, making Dean look at me while wiggling his eyebrows. "Why do you do this?" I asked him and he shrugged. "I don't know, honestly, it's just fun. You should try it, stop being lame." Dean told me and I rolled my eyes. "Yeah, stop being a loser!" Some guy from our class said. I watched as Dean spun around to face the guy, approaching him and grabbing his neck. "What the hell did you just call my brother?" The guy's eyes widened and he tried to get Dean's hand off his neck but he failed because he's only human. "I won't do it again!" The guy heaved. Dean glared at him, "you better not, if I catch you being a d**k to my brother again I'll f**k you up." The guy nodded the best he could and Dean slammed him against the locker before coming back to me and McKenzie. "Now that's taken care of, I think it's time for Chris and I to head home." Dean said, waiting for her response. "Okay, I'll see you two tomorrow right?" McKenzie looked between us and we nodded at her, "alright, bye guys." "Bye Kenzie." Dean and I said simultaneously, turning around and leaving the school. "So are you ready to meet some new chicks tomorrow?" Dean winked at me and I rolled my eyes. I roll my eyes a lot, don't I? Yes, you do, but everyone's stupid so you have a reason to. Ignoring my wolf, I answered Dean. "No, I'm not ready to meet some new chicks. You know why? Because I'm waiting for my mate." He stuck his tongue out at me, "you can still meet them, just don't make out with them. It's that simple, honestly." "I'm not gonna make out with them." "Okay, I'm just saying." He shrugged and we both went into the woods when nobody was around to see us. The rest of the walk home was silent, the only sounds heard were twigs breaking and birds chirping. We arrived at the house minutes later, both of us knowing the usual routine we do after school. "It's your job to check on Mom today, I did it yesterday." Dean said, "besides, I think it'd do you some good to see her." I scratched the back of my neck nervously, "okay..." Dean went in the kitchen and I turned around then left the house. I walked for a few minutes until the pack house came into view and I went inside, passing people who already knew where I was going. I went down the hall until I saw the receptionist, she gave me a kind wave which I returned. I passed her and went down the hall to the right, coming up on room 274, then I knocked. "Come in." I opened the door and walked in, shutting the door behind me. "How are you feeling?" I watched her try to sit up but she winced, making her lay back down. "Not very good, I take it..." I frowned and walked over to her, sitting in the chair next to her bed. "I'm fine." She breathed, looking at me. "No mom, if you were fine you wouldn't be in the hospital." I told her, tears forming in my eyes. I felt her grab my hand and give it a squeeze, a sad smile on her face. "It's gonna be okay, if I don't make it, please stay strong." "No no no, don't talk like that." I said, watching her frown which caused me to panic. "Mom, no, you can't leave me. I'll be better, I swear! Dean will be better, we'll both be better. I promise..." "The doctor said I wasn't healing the way I'm supposed to..." She coughed and I clenched my eyes shut. "I'm gonna find him," I promised, "and when I do, he's gonna regret ever hurting you." "Chris stop." My mom said, her voice filled with pain and my grip on her hand tightened. I don't wanna lose her... "Just promise me that when you find your mate, you'll treat her with respect and you'll love her. Make her feel like she's a goddess..." "Mom stop talking like that, you're gonna pull through." I told her and she gave me a pained look. "I hope you're right..." I felt her let my hand go, "but you should get home, you have school tomorrow." I looked up at the clock and saw it was already six, I haven't noticed I was here that long. I turned back to my mom and gave her a hug the best I could without hurting her, "I love you." "I love you too." She responded, ending the hug. I turned and left the room, giving her one last glance before shutting the door. "Hey Chris, you feeling alright?" I looked up and saw Kelly standing in front of me with a frown. "I've been better." I frowned and she sighed, giving me a big hug. "We all know how you feel, how's your father? What's he been doing?" She asked after she pulled back from the hug and I ran my hand through my hair. "He's almost never home, he's either working late or visiting mom..." "You poor child, you shouldn't have to be going through this. Sadly I can't stay and talk, Jacob isn't handling this very well either and I have to comfort him. Just hang in there." She said, patting my arm then walking away. I inhaled deeply then exhaled, starting my quiet walk back home.
