Chapter Four

Labyrinth

As we made our way to Cosmos club, I couldn't shake off the feeling that the twins were keeping a huge secret from me. I really want to take them for their words but with the past experiences I've had with them, I just couldn't trust their words blindly. Looking at them closely you could see that they were trying too hard to act as if everything was alright. Sometimes I wonder if they actually see me as their boss or just some spoilt brat who is fortunate to be the next Boss of The Unfazed cartel. I have tried my best to prove to them that I'm capable of taking care of our cartel, the family and the business. I was still lost in thoughts when I noticed someone was glaring at me. I raised my head to see who it was, and I saw Jayden looking absent minded. He had wandered far into his own world of fantasy.

“Jayden,” I called. Do you see something you like, do I look that dashing? Cause you seem to have drool all over your face."

“You are so full of yourself Lab, you are not the only good looking man here. Is my handsome face a joke to you?” Jayden answered, putting out his face so Lab could properly see.

“Is this what we are going to do now Jayden?”

“What are we doing Lab?” Jayda joined the conversation.

“The both of you are calling me Lab now? It sounds weird to me and makes me doubt you both the more. I feel something is up with you two.”

“Nothing is up with us Lab,” the twins chorused. we just thought it would be better to call you Lab, than to call you boss or Capo since we are trying to keep a low profile, Jayden added.

“For f**k sake, can you stop questioning our loyalty to you? I am starting to feel insulted” Jayda said irked.

“Easy tigress! No need to get all defensive and you do know you always get defensive when you are being put in a tight position. Right now you are doing yourself no good,” I said

“Lawrence, can you play some music to lighten the mood in this car? Cause I can't keep on listening to them telling tales of who knows who best,” Jayden smartly diverted our attention.

“What kind of song would you want me to play, sir Jayden?” Lawrence asked.

Without thinking I and Jayda responded simultaneously “BTS!”

“Uhm Boss what is BTS?” Lawrence asked looking all confused.

“Bestemmia!” I yelled at him. “I am an Italian and I know who BTS are," I shook my head.

“And people say America is an open minded country. Lawrence, here is an order, before we get back home I wanna see that you have created a playlist of BTS. There are few things I don't joke with, and BTS is one of them. Meanwhile play me Boy with luv to lighten up the mood,” Lawrence searched the song up and played it.

“And Lawrence,” Jayden spoke.“ Do your research about them. It will come in handy for you in the future, trust me,” He added.

Lawrence was actually surprised that Labyrinth and the Demonic Pair could listen to a group like BTS. With what he heard about them in the cartel world, the kind of reputation they held, he couldn't believe his eyes. He was bewildered as he watched them sing along and dance to the song playing, They didn't look or act like the tales he heard of, that made him admire them the more.

As they got to their destination he inform them that they had arrived and that he would go out first with the other guys to make sure the place is secure enough to go in. Jayden decided to check the venue with him and get surveillance of the area, because he knew the risk at hand. While waiting for Jayden and Lawrence to come give them feedback, it occurred to Labyrinth that Jayda hasn't given him status report about the task he asked of her.

“Jayda I asked you to get me full Intel about who is in charge around here, and I haven't gotten any details from you yet, or is the task too difficult for you to handle signora?” Labyrinth asked

“Labyrinth, if you weren't the sotto-capo of our cartel and my best friend, I would have cut that tongue of yours and fed it to a stray dog in the streets of New York. Don't you ever question my Job," Jayda said In a disrespectful tone.

“Same goes to you Jayda, if you weren’t my best friend I would have shot those eyes of yours the second you started making such threats at me. Don't you ever speak to me in that tone again. You know what I am capable of doing to, be it to family, a friend or a foe. I may be your friend but I won't hesitate to carve out your heart and give it to my chef to prepare as my dinner and eat with a smile on my face,” Labyrinth said fuming in anger.

“Damn Labyrinth you sound so sexy and hot right now. If we weren't in a public place, I would have devoured every single part of you and leave no crumbs,” Jayda sounded as though she would actually strip Lab naked if they were in private.

Labyrinth scoffed “When has that ever stopped you, you and your brother are no different, yet they call you both the Demonic Pairs more like the Libidinous Pairs.”

Jayda guffawed “Oh Labyrinth, be plain and admit you have a boring s*x life. Better still ask me or my brother for some lessons. You might need it in the future on your quest of finding your Vero amore," Jayda teased Labyrinth yet again.

“Now we are calling me Labyrinth? No more Lab?” Labyrinth asked trying to change the topic because he was embarrassed as to how she knows that my s*x life was uninteresting .

“Someone is trying to shy away from the conversation,” Jayda teased .

"What is keeping Jayden and Lawrence, if I'm left alone with him for five minutes, I won't be able to keep my mouth shut anymore. I will definitely spill the beans," Jayda spoke under her breath.

“Did you say something?” Labyrinth asked

“Nope, I was talking to myself, you know, trying to decide if I'm going home tonight with a handsome man or a sexy female," Jayda replied.

Labyrinth looked closely at her “You never fail to amaze me with the words that comes out of your mouth. Back to business, what did you find out about the boss around here?”

“Well, from the Intel I gathered, 85% of New York is run by the Freemans, a typical American Traditional family, which means they have people everywhere, from the white House to the slums of America”. She turned to face him.

“Benjamin Freeman is the chairman of Freeman holdings which they say deals with real estates and have the highest numbers of oil wells in the country, but that's just a front in the eyes of the public, they deal on drugs, money laundering, lobbying and weapons. Their family owns one of the biggest law firms in the country and I think that's where they get their Intel in blackmailing all their associates, or should I say keeping them in check. They practically control 70% of America, I heard his uncle is running for president. Now, imagine how powerful they are going to be," Lab tried to process all he had heard from Jayda.

“Well the difference between their family and mine is that mine is respected and feared in the whole of Europe while theirs is just the United States of America,” He finally spoke.

“The New York branch is run by his wife and son, who are Tamaska and Oliver Freeman. Oliver is in charge of the real estates and Night clubs, they say sometimes he handles the shady side of their business, and Tamaska is in charge of the drugs, weapons and money laundering. Word on the street is, that Tamaska and Oliver are cat and rat, They are always gutting at each other's throat,” Jayda continued.

“Damn, that family is something else” Labyrinth laughed.

“And you are one to talk? Honey, if anyone should talk crap about that family, it shouldn't be you. If I begin to list the things your family is involved with, we would be here for two years and I wouldn't be done talking,” Jayda replied.

As Labyrinth was about to ask more about Oliver Freeman from Jayda, he received a message from Jayden telling him that the place has been secured and they can step down from the car. As they got to the entrance of the club, Jayda whispered into Labyrinth’s left ear “I forgot to tell you we are already on a wrong foot with the Freemans,” Labyrinth eyes followed her as she trailed ahead of him.

"What do you mean by wrong foot, we only just got here?" Labyrinth asked confused.

while Labyrinth was still trying to comprehend Jayda’s words, Oliver was busy making sure everything was perfect at their new club opening, Tamaska decided to be the pain in their ass. Nothing was up to her satisfaction, she had numerous complaints about the event, making silly remarks and downplaying all Oliver’s efforts. Everyone was fumming in anger and because Rollin knew being in the same space with Tamaska Freeman would make him disrespectful towards her, so he dashed out of the venue and went outside to get a breath of fresh air. Oliver decided to ignore Tamaska completely. Some of the guests noticed the tension between Tamaska and Oliver and started to gossip among themselves. They wondered if Tamaska was in a competition with her child, or if they truly were blood relatives.

Oliver couldn't believe her mother’s attitude towards her that night, she knew she was never good enough for her, no matter what she did or achieve, Tamaska Freeman never seems to be pleased with it. It's nothing new to her but sometimes she wish she can see how hard she's trying to get Tamaska validation. Clouded with with thoughts, she noticed Lucas walking towards her looking all agitated.

“Oliver, Labryinth has made his move. Right now, he is at Cosmos Night club with the Demonic Pair,” Lucas said to her.

“What the f**k! What the hell are you waiting for? Get the car ready, we have to make sure the club doesn’t get sold to him. And where is Rollin?” she asked as they rushed out of the venue.

“He is waiting for us in the car, he asked me to come get you” Lucas responded.

“Well hurry up, time isn't on our side at the moment," Oliver said.

The deal was closed. Cosmos Night club now belonged to the Armanis. This was one of the easiest deal Labyrinth has ever done. Who knew doing business with Americans was this easy? Labyrinth thought to himself. Money gets things done quickly around here which is different from how they do it in Italy, there, your reputation speaks for you. As he was celebrating, he remembered what Jayda said to him when they got to the club, he decided to find out more.

“Jayda, what did you mean when you said we are already on the wrong foot with the Freemans? Could you explain more?” Labyrinth asked hoping to clearly understand the situation.

“Labyrinth, this is not the time to talk business, we’d do that later. For now, let us dance our asses off and make the most of the little time we have to party, tomorrow, we talk business,” Jayda replied swerving her hips to the rhythm of the loud music.

“Labyrinth, don't be a party popper, sometimes you need to loosen up and let go of your troubles, ” Jayden added.

Labrynith scoffed “Who says I don't know how to have fun . Okay, let's play a game, dare me to do anything right now and I will do it with no hesitation.”

Jayda looked around briefly, she stood and said “Labyrinth, I dare you to kiss that lady on white, the one who just walked in.”

He turned to see who the lady in white was and his eyes caught her immediately. It felt like time stopped. He was mesmerised by her beauty, she had this angelic look, her posture was splendid, the aura around her was enthralling. It was as if he had been bewitched by her or was it love at first sight?

“She…she’s perfect! she is the most pulchritudinous woman I had ever set my eyes on,” Labyrinth managed to speak, still lost in her eyes.
