~’A’~
I let my body fall to the grass and wrap the towel around my neck. This warrior training is no joke, but it feels good. I’ve been at it for about a week or two, and I think it was the best decision for me.
Since I’ve been here, I have been worried about what my place would be. Obviously, I can’t have the same place I was born to have. It isn’t just because I’ve lost memories. Once I disappeared, the structure was rearranged, and it wouldn’t be fair to make changes to that.
To be honest, I have no idea what being a Beta is all about, and I really just want to focus on remembering my life. I asked Eddison if he minded, but he said he’s just happy to have me back. I still don’t have the ties to Eddison and Shawna like I should, but I feel much more comfortable around them.
“Good job, yet again, ‘A’. I look up and see Boris looking down at me. He’s one of the head trainers, and he’s tough. He went hard with me at first but eased up a bit after a while. I’m not sure if he was testing me or not. I can only guess that whatever he saw caused him to see me differently.
“Thanks. I think I’m really finding my footing.” Boris rolls his eyes with a huge smile.
“Sure, let’s call it that.” He sits beside me, and I sit up to look at him. “So, as you know, King is soon to be married. From what I understand, the marriage happens right before the Alpha ceremony. He has requested that his Luna have a security detail. It’s a huge honor to be a part of that team and he only wants the best. I think you should go for that. You are one of the best warriors, and Katarina would be lucky to have you.”
King, Dominic, and I have been spending more time together since we met that day. We’ve been getting to know each other again, and I have to say that it’s been fun. I haven’t really had much time with Katarina since we met in the woods that day. Things feel awkward between us, so we always end up with a third party. I’m starting to think that her friend, Tatiana, likes me, but I could be wrong. Speaking of women, I’ve had a few come on to me in the last few weeks, but I have no desire to start anything with anyone. “Hello?! ‘A’?” Boris’s voice breaks me out of my musings.
“Yeah, that could be something I’d be good at. What would I need to do?”
“Tomorrow, there will be a tryout of sorts. We will use that along with our observations and give that to King. He will be the one to choose the detail.”
“Sounds easy enough. I will be ready for tomorrow.” Boris nods and pats me on the back before getting up and walking off. I lay back on the grass and stare into the sky.
“Are you sure you want to nap here? You might get trampled on.” I let my eyes wander and catch the sight of toned, caramel-colored legs. The feet are bare, and the legs stop at the edge of a short skirt. I close my eyes, not needing to look any further.
“Hey, Tatiana. How are you?” Her scent falls over me, and I feel the heat from her body. I’m guessing she’s sitting next to me.
“I was going to go for a run and saw you lying here. I thought I’d come by and say hello.” Her touch is soft as it travels up my arm. It’s nice, but something about it is off. I open my eyes and look at her. She’s cute, that’s a fact. She has a heart-shaped face, thick lips and dark brown eyes. She has a small afro, pulled back by a headband. I’ve caught her looking at me a few times, but I ignore it.
I’m no prude, and in the two years that I remember, I’ve gone out on a few dates and hooked up with a couple of women. It was weird because I couldn’t remember ever being with a woman. I couldn’t say if that was due to my memory issues or that I’d never been with a woman. I may not be a prude, but I’m just not feeling Tatiana romantically. “I’m sure that run will be great.”
“I hate that you can’t run with me. I mean, I could always carry you on my back.” I stifle my laugh and shake my head.
“There’s no need. I’m good. You should just enjoy yourself.” I sit up and collect my towel and water bottle. “Maybe I’ll see you around.” I stand and walk toward my home. I need a shower and a meal.
~Tatiana~
I watch him walk away with my core getting hotter and hotter. He’s a sexy ass man, but he always has been. I’ve had a crush on him for the longest time but never thought of indulging. It was no secret that Katarina had the hots for him, and only a blind person could miss his interest in her.
I’ve talked to Katarina about approaching Aston, and she told me to go for it. She said that whatever she felt for him was over long ago, and she’s very much in love with King. I guess I just want a chance with Aston, though I’m not sold on it being a forever type of thing. I’m in no position to attach myself to anyone. My life is too fu.cked up right now.
I get to my feet and continue my walk into the woods. Lily has been itching to go for a run, but I’ve been putting it off. I’ve been busy trying to help Tatiana finish planning her wedding/Luna ceremony. Luna Trina had somewhere to go today, so we get a break.
When I get far enough into the woods, I stop so I can disrobe. My hands are on the hem of my tank top, and I start to lift it up. Arms wrap around me, and I immediately tense up. “I saw you. I saw you talking to him.” I swallow thickly, scared about what will come next.
“Talking to who?” My body moves with ridiculous speed. I’m pushed up against a tree, the bark scraping my skin. One of his hands is around my neck, and the other is flush against my stomach.
“Don’t play stupid with me. You know how that makes me feel.” He runs his nose up and down the side of my neck. “You were talking to Aston and I didn’t like it.”
“Wwwe were just talking.”
“Sure. Don’t you think I could smell your arousal? It was in the air all around you.” I feel his teeth on my neck. His teeth dig into my flesh, but not enough to break my skin. “You were promised to me. You are mind and you need to not forget it.” He licks the side of my face before walking away. My body slides down to the forest floor, and I wrap my arms around my body as the tears fall down my face. I hate my life.
