When my father got home from work Alice drove me home. She was sweet and parked extra close to the door and helped me get out of her car before giving me my forearm crutches. Then as best as I could I hobbled up the porch, doing my best not to fall, and to the front door.
Luckily these crutches weren't my primary means of getting around. Carlisle had told me that he was going to look into getting me a wheelchair since it rains alot and I could slip and further injure myself. He didn't want to take any chances.
"Daddy I'm home!" I called as I crossed into my house.
"About time, I was starting to get worried. Bella said that you hurt your foot this morning and-" He paused, when he came into the foyer and saw my leg casted and me supporting myself with the crutches. "What on earth did you do Soph?" He said as he came over to my side and helped me into the living room before settling me on the couch.
"I was rushing down the stairs to get to my bedroom and I went down on my ankle the wrong way. Dr. Carlisle says I was lucky I didn't require surgery."
"My father says she has a broken ankle and a fractured fibula. She will be in this cast for at least a month if things heal properly." Alice explained as she came into the room and stood beside me.
"Alice, right?" He asked.
Alice nodded her head. "I had a proposition. I was thinking that, maybe, until her leg was healed she might be able to stay with me and my family. She would be in very good hands."
My father held his hand out as my sister entered the room carrying a beer. He took it and cracked it open before taking a sip.
"I don't think so. Not that I don't appreaciate the offer of help it's just that I think she will be fine without it."
"But dad-"
"Sophia Allyse, we are not going to have this conversation. I said no, and no means no. Now stop."
I huffed. "But dad I need someone to help me take care of myself. I have one leg! One leg! I have to be able to get to school, get around school, get home from school...."
"Your sister can help you."
"But how am I supposed to bath myself without ruining my cast! Or what about getting upstairs without killing myself. Carlisle said he doesn't want me on my feet at all and he was going to get me a better means of getting around."
"A wheel chair?" Bella began. "You in a wheel chair, I just don't see it."
"Bella, shut up!" I snapped.
"Like I said, Soph, your sister can help you."
I crossed ,my arms. "Really? Bella, the one who can barely walk across a flat surface, being the one I depend on to help me to my room."
"That is it. Sophia Allyse, this conversation is over! Go to your room."
"Dad..."
"SOPHIA ALLYSE, room.... Now!" My father shouted.
I looked over at Alice, my face red with embarrasment. Then I rose to my feet, and with my crutches I hobbled out of the living room and over to the stairs where I began to climb.
"Here, let me help you." She said as she tried to help me up the stairs.
"I got it." I grumbled as I came onto the landing.
"No, just let me-" Bella insisted.
"I GOT IT!" I snapped at her, turning quickly to shaked her off.
I jerked too hard, causing my weight to unsteady me and then I fell into Bella who tumbled down the stairs. We landed at the bottom with a loud thud that caused several pictures on the wall to fall.
At first I screamed in shock, from falling down the stairs. But when the pain flooded through my body I knew something wasn't right and I screamed again. Tears were running down my burning hot cheeks.
"Sophia!" She took my hand into mine. "Dad!" She shouted.
It was Alice who got to our side first. "There is blood." She said, moving from my side to put distance between myself and her. "She needs to see my father." she told Charlie before taking out her phone and hurridly leaving the room.
"Isabella Marie, what happened?"
My sister had nothing but a bruise on her forehead and I had, who knows what.
"I tried to help her and we fell down the stairs. She was too heavy."
"SHUT UP BELLA!" I screamed.
"We need to get her to my father, something isn't right I think a bone might have cut an artery." Alice said. From the tears in my eyes I was able to make out the look on her face. She looked...hungry.
"Alice?" I groaned. "Your... eyes."
Then I was in my fathers eyes and he was carrying me out to his cruiser where I was carefully placed in the back seat.
"Follow me." Alice said before she got into her car and headed off.
Every pebble in the drive way caused me pain. Terrible pain. The entire trip to the Cullen residence was nothing but me screaming at the top of my lungs.
When we finally came to a stop the biggest brother, Emmett was lifting me carefully out of the back seat and carrying me inside.
The second we entered the house I was being taken upstairs to the room that had all the medical equipment. Then Dr. Carlisle was at my side with what looked like a small saw. In the next moment my cast was cut off.
"Sophia?" My father called as he entered the room.
He stopped when he saw my leg and his face turned white. He was almost as pale as my sister.
"Daddy, is it bad?" I cried.
I wanted to know but I didn't want to see. I was terrified, I was scared.
Then my sister came into the room. She took one looked at me and dropped to the ground.
I couldn't resist. I needed to look. Hesitantly I let my eyes drop to my leg and screamed. I could see bone, and it wasn't just a little peak. The bone was sticking out of my skin.
"Oh my god, I'm going to die!" I screamed, tears streaming down my face. "Please, help me. Please!"
My heart was pounding in my chest as the room began to spin. It felt like my throat was closing up and I was having trouble breathing. I brought my hands up to my neck like a person choaking and tried to force air out.
Esme was at my side putting a oxygen mask over my mouth and telling me to breath. But I couldn't. I wanted to but I couldn't. I was panicking.
"Just relax Sophia, you will be alright. I'm going to give you some medicine and then you will fall asleep. When you wake up everything is going to be alright." Carlisle said to me in a soft voice.
A few seconds passed before I began to feel tired. I didn't feel the pain as much as I had before. Then I blinked and all had gone black.
It felt like it had been seconds since I had closed my eyes. I stared at the ceiling, waiting for my vision to clear and focus, listening to a steady beep go off somewhere in the room.
"Sophia?" It was Esme's voice.
I moved my hand up to my mouth to try and take off the oxygen tubes that were stuck in my nose.
"No sweetheart." Esme said as she gently grabbed my hand and moved it to rest on my chest.
"Dad?" I whispered. My voice sounded so hoarse, it was barely a whisper.
Esme began to stroke my hair. "Your dad took as much time off as he could to be here with you but he needed to go back to work. He will be here shortly though to see you."
What did she mean, he took as much time off as he could? It had only been a few hours right?
I looked at Esme, my eyes desperate with questions that I couldn't yet speak. She tilted her head slightly before rising to her feet.
"Carlisle is home." She said before leaving the room.
When she returned Carlisle was with her.
"I was wondering when you would wake up." He said as he took a seat beside me. Esme handed him a clip board and he began writing something. "You've been in a medical coma for three months-"
I could have sworn my heart stopped. Three months?
"Three?" I croaked.
"You lost alot of blood and then we had to treat you for swelling of the brain. When you fell, you managed to get the majority of the fall. Not only did you need surgery to repair the damage to your leg and ankle, which both fully healed during the time you were in your coma, but you hit your head pretty hard as well. If we didn't put you under you could have possible sustained permanent damage." He explained.
A tear slid down my face.
"You are looking a bit pale, how about we go get you cleaned up and take you out to get some fresh air and sunlight. Then we can begin on your physical theraphy to get you up and walking again." Carlisle said as he beckoned the boy named Emmett forward.
Just like before, he lifted me effortlessly into his arms, and carried me from the room and into a large bathroom. I was sat on a lounge chair and then he left. His presence was replaced by Esme and the beautiful girl named Rosalie.
Rose began running a bath while Esme helped me to undress. The two helped me into the ovesized tub and then they bathed me.
It felt weird to be bathed by another person that wasn't myself. They made sure to clean me in all my nooks and crannys, which was very uncomfortable. When they finished I was taken out and dried before Rosalie when to retrieve clothes for me.
I sat on the lounge chair, with the towel wrapped around me for cover. As I wiggled my toes I remembered, I had previous broken my leg and had surgery on it to repair it. I leaned over to get a better look at my leg and felt my heart clench as I saw the gruesome scar the ran from my thigh to my ankle.
"He had to repair so much. The damage was extreme." Esme said as she began brushing my hair with a soft bristled brush.
"How?"
"The weight of your sister and the force of the fall crushed the cast and in turn crushed your leg. You were lucky my husband is such a skilled doctor. The procedure in a hospital, for such injuries, would've been to remove it. Your leg might be more metal than bone, inside but you will still be able to walk."
Just as she finished, Rosalie came back into the room carrying clothes.
"Alice picked these out." She said as she helped me to my feet and into the outfit.
When I was dressed she moved me to a mirror. I was wearing demin jeans, a red shirt, black converse shoes and a black leather jacket. It wasn't what I would've chosen but I liked it.
Very slowly, with Esme supporting me on one side and Rosalie supporting me on the other, I was helped back into the room I had waken in, where there was a wheelchair waiting for me.
I stared at it, a frown upon my face. I thought they said I could walk.
"It's just until we start the therapy. I don't want to work you too hard this soon." Carlisle explained as he helped me into the chair.
It gave me relief to know that this wasn't one of those cheap hospital wheelchairs. This one had a lot of padding and was slimmer, sleaker.
With the help of Emmet, again, I managed to get downstairs. Then I was wheeled out onto the back porch. I immeadiately closed my eyes as the sun shone brightly in my face. It had been a while since my eyes have seen such light.
When my eyes finally adjusted I looked around the grounds. We were nestled close to a river, the Sol Duc I believe. There were several trees, the grounds were covered here and there with moss, grass and beautiful flowers. It was perfect. Peaceful. Simple.
"Are you hungry Sophia?" Esme asked.
I smiled. "Slightly, thank you." my voice was still raspy.
"I will go and make you something decent."
I watched as she entered back into the house, leaving me to my own. I clasped my hands in my lap and stared at them. My hands looked so think which made me wonder how much weight I had lost while in the coma.
I looked up when I heard the door open again, half expecting to see Esme but instead it was the other brother. I smiled, shyly when my eyes met his.
"It is nice to see you up for once." He greeted, taking a seat on the edge of the flower bed the sat beside me. "I'm not sure if you remember me, since I haven't been around much since you've awaken. But I'm Benedict, Edwards older twin."
"I-" I paused to clear my throat, "I'm Sophia, Isabella's older twin."
He took my hand into his and kissed it. "It is a great pleasure to look into your eyes miss Swan."
I smiled as his lips met my hand.
"That is cute, but cut the formal crap." My throat was so dry but I didn't care. "If you want to ask me out on a date, take a leaf from the book of a Nike commercial and just do it."
