Chapter 2 Trouble’s a brewing Pat Do you know how you want to help someone, and it blows up in your face? That is me with my twin. Pax and I did everything together, even getting into trouble. We dragged Kaxon and Mason along for the ride. We got back to the house with Matthew and Markus to see Payton and Parker waiting for us along with the girls. I saw Britt and grinned. “Will you focus instead of focusing on your woman?” Kaxon asked. “Hey, it’s been a long time,” I told Kaxon. “And your d**k still won’t get any action until we fix Pax’s problem,” Mason mentioned. “My d**k doesn’t get action anyway,” I retorted, rolling my eyes. “Do you mind not discussing Pat’s d**k? I prefer not to hear this s**t,” Parker said. “Pat started it,” Kaxon said, pointing at me. “Well, I’m ending it,” Payton told us. “Where’s Pax?” I asked. “He’s upstairs and refuses to talk to us,” Payton said. Pax might refuse to talk to our brothers and others, but he never refuses to talk to me. I went upstairs to talk to Pax and opened his door to have something thrown at my head. I ducked because I’m not a dumbass who gets hit. I stood up and looked at Pax. Pax’s anger is plausible, and he looked as if he would break any moment. I walked towards Pax as he furrowed his brows at me. “Why doesn’t Shaun want me?” Pax asked with a quivering lip. “I don’t think that’s it. Shaun went through hell because of his ex. People can change you without you knowing it,” I reasoned. “How do you deal with an ache in your chest? It feels as if everything is caving in on you. Someone will explain it to me because this is bullshit!” Pax raged. His voice alerted the others who came upstairs. “Pax, I know it hurts, but it won’t stay this way,” I reasoned. “Pat,” Pax’s voice trailed off as he broke. I held Pax as he cried. I comforted him because he needed it. Pax rarely broke when he cared about someone; that’s what made it heartbreaking. How do you help someone when the only person who can is not here? I let Payton and Parker take over for me, then left with Kaxon following me. “I know what you’re planning and don’t,” Kaxon warned me. I turned to Kaxon. “I’ll talk to Shaun, and that’s it,” I said. “Talk with your words or fists?” Kaxon asked. I looked at him with irritation. “Pat, we aren’t kids anymore. You can’t force people to talk. They do or don’t. Let them figure it out,” Kaxon reasoned. “That is my twin. I can’t stand around and watch Pax hurt,” I told Kaxon. “Then let Pax deal with it. Don’t you have an issue of your own?” Kaxon asked. “Yeah, but first things first,” I said as I turned and walked away. I walked around town until I found Shaun. He was coming out of the bakery, locking up. I walked up to him and touched his arm. “Please don’t touch me!” Shaun screamed while cowering. I jerked my hand back. “Please,” Shaun begged as he started crying. I stood there, stunned. “I promise I’ll be good,” he whimpered. I looked at Shaun, shocked as he shook, hiding his face. “Shaun, I won’t hurt you,” I said. I watched Shaun whimper while shaking. That’s when it hit me what Payton and Parker told us about Shaun. I pulled out my phone and made a call. After speaking with the person, I hung up and stayed there. Tonight, I saw two broken people for distinct reasons. It wasn’t right. I heard a car pull up as Parker appeared from it with Markus. They walked over to us as I looked at Parker. Parker looked at me, shook his head, then walked over to Shaun and talk to him. Markus stood next to me. “I didn’t know it’s this bad,” I mentioned to Markus. “That’s what everyone tried to tell Pax, but he thinks it’s because Shaun doesn’t care about him. Shaun went through hell last year because of his ex. Parker and I found Shaun drunk one night,” Markus explained to me. Parker got Shaun calmed down and walked past us. “Go home, Pat,” Park ordered me. I said nothing as Parker led Shaun away from us. Markus said nothing as we walked back to the house. When we got back, I got a lecture from hell from Payton, and things got heated. We got into a fight, with the cousins stepping in to stop us. “What the hell is wrong with you?” Payton snapped. “Me? I’m helping my twin, and I get a lecture from you! Newsflash, you’re not Pops!” I yelled. “Be glad because pops would beat your ass for that stunt,” Payton barked. “Payton, you’re a d**k and always have been,” I shouted. That’s all it took. Payton hauled off and hit me, startling the girls as Matthew and Markus kept Payton from killing me. Mason and Kaxon dragged me away before it got messy. They shoved me out of the house as I fought both. Kaxon knocked me on my ass. “Stay!” Kaxon ordered me. I sat there as Parker walked up and saw me sitting on the sidewalk, rubbing my chin. “I don’t want to know why you’re on the ground,” Park said. I stood up and looked at everyone. “Since everyone feels the need to hit me, you can all suck it,” I snapped as I turned and walked away. “Patton!” Parker yelled as I flipped him off. “Well, that went well,” Kaxon mentioned as Mason and Parker looked at him. Kaxon shrugged. School hasn’t started yet, and things were already a mess. Good luck to us when it starts. Pax I heard yelling and came out of the bedroom. I don’t know what happened, but no one looked happy. I came downstairs to hear what happened. “You hit Pat?” I asked as everyone looked at me. “Why?” Matthew looked at me. “Because Pat went to talk to Shaun and made things worse,” he said. “What? Why?” I asked, confused. “Because Pat wanted to help you,” Payton answered. Parker entered the house and looked at me. “Look, I get you want Shaun, but pushing him into something he’s not ready for isn’t the answer,” Park told me. I looked at everyone. “You didn’t see what Shaun went through last year and found him broken. We did. Markus and I found Shaun a drunken mess after enduring a beating from his ex. Stop thinking about yourself. You need to understand not everything is about you or Patton,” Park told me. I looked at everyone as they looked at me, saying nothing. “Don’t worry, I won’t get close to anyone again,” I said as I went back upstairs. I hated my brothers at that moment. Shaun pursued me two years ago, then gets involved with a douche. Since my loving brothers are tools, they need not worry about me. I can manage things on my own. Everyone wants me to stay away from Shaun, then I’ll stay away from him. I can see this year will be super fun. Payton “Well, school is starting off with a bang,” Kaxon mentioned as I rolled my eyes at him. “Shut the hell up, Kaxon,” Parker snapped. I made a call home to explain to pops what happened. You got to be kidding me. Payton, you’re the oldest. “I know, but you know the devil twins,” I said. It doesn’t matter. It’s your brothers. I expect Parker and you to look out for the twins, not beat the hell out of them. “I know. I let my temper get the best of me,” I explained. I don’t care. Get yourself in check, Payton, or I will do it myself. If I come up there, none of you will like me. Pops hung up, and I sighed. “What did pops say?” Parker asked. “If we don’t take care of the devil twins, pops is visiting us,” I answered. Parker groaned as I shook my head. The thing about pops is he didn’t play games with anyone. He hated it when we fought with each other. Yeah, brothers fight, but we took it to the extreme. Now, it was time to wrangle in the devil twins before s**t went south.
