Chapter 14: Doyle sat in his chair. The fog grew thick as the afternoon progressed. The chill seeped through the three glass windows as he stared out. Carl was late to bring dinner. After the experience with Asia, Doyle didn’t know what to think. Perhaps Lane was forced to betray Helena. That would make more sense. Lost in thought, he jumped when the door opened behind him. “Son of a…” Doyle cursed from the pain his ribs shot through his body when he jumped. “Next time you knock or something?” “Sorry I’m late. I was at a scene. The scene of a new murder I thought you might be interested in.” Carl carried a blue enamel bowl with a hand towel covering it. “What’s for dinner?” Doyle asked, ignoring his comment about the murder scene. “I have a friend who makes the best kosher chili.” D
