Finding Her

I had no idea what came over me. My only intention this morning was explaining everything Ava, and asking for her forgiveness. I didn't expect her to start crying. If anything, I expected more yelling. But just like last night, when I saw the tears on her face, I just held her close. It felt so right, and she fit so perfectly in my arms. I could smell her hair, it smelled like strawberries. I could hear her heart thundering against her ribs. When she looked up at me, I got lost in her eyes. They were endless and I felt like I could look into them forever and find all the answers to the questions I'd never have to ask. Whatever this feeling was, burned everything away. My friends, my pack, my wolf, even Taylor. All gone in an instant. It was just me and the beautiful redhead in front of me. I placed my hand on her cheek and I felt her lean into it. Her skin was soft, and warm. I unwrapped my other arm and brought my hand to her other cheek. I tilted her face up slightly to look better into her eyes. Lochie was pacing in my head, wanting to come out, but I held him back. I'd talk to him later. Right now I wanted to focus on Ava. She still had tears on her cheeks, which I rubbed away with my thumbs. She inhaled shakily, and I nearly lost control. A small part of my mind was telling me this was not okay, that I had a girlfriend, that I needed to stop. But Taylor seemed very insignificant at this moment. I truly didn't care how this would effect her. If she walked in here right now, I'd be more angry that my moment with Ava was lost, than how angry Taylor would be with me. "Luke..." Ava said my name so quietly, I almost missed it. "Ava." I let her name roll of my tongue. She looked like she wanted to say something, but bit her lip instead. That did it. I tilted her face up more and kissed her. Hard. At first she resisted, and I thought she was going to push me away. She had every right to. Then I felt her hands circle my neck and I growled in approval. I leaned her back on the bed, and the blanket covering her slid down between us. She tasted amazing. It was like no other flavor I'd ever had. Salty and sweet and sugary, all at once. I instantly craved more. I let my tongue roll over her bottom lip, and she gasped. I used the opportunity to slide my tongue in and her taste hit me full on. Damn, this girl was like a drug, and I was already addicted. She reached down to the hem of my shirt and tugged on it. I immediately pulled it off. It was then that I noticed she only had a white bra on. I pulled the blankets down more and she was wearing a pair of white panties. I nearly f*****g exploded in my jeans at the sight. I brought my lips back to hers, holding her face tightly to mine. I heard her give a low moan, which earned a groan from me. "f**k Ava." I said when I released her for some much needed oxygen. Even then, I just let my lips trail down her neck with light kisses. "Luke... We... We shouldn't be doing this. We can't." She put her hand on my chest as I was going to kiss her again. I looked into her eyes... and Lochie howled in my head. My entire body tensed, and I immediately jumped off her, and sat as far from her on the bed as I could. I ran my hands through my hair, trying to slow my breathing. "I'm sorry Ava. f**k. I'm so sorry. I don't know why... I mean, I don't know how to explain... f**k!" I shouted and she jumped. God, I was an i***t. I basically just jumped this poor girl, and now I was scaring her. I took a couple deep breaths. "That won't happen again. I just... I got caught up in the moment. I didn't mean to put you in this position. And you don't have to worry, nobody will find out. Taylor won't bug you. I promise. I have to go." I grabbed my shirt off the floor, had it on in record time, and practically ran out the door. What the f**k was wrong with me? As if on cue, Taylor came prancing up the stairs. f*****g Hell. "Luke! I've been looking everywhere for you! Why the f**k didn't you text me back? You can be so f*****g rude somet-" "NOT NOW TAYLOR!!" I shouted at her. She stepped back, shocked. I had never once raised my voice at her. Completely ignoring her, and the panic I felt, I raced down the stairs and ran into my office. I slammed the door shut and pulled out my phone, texting Dom and Leo. Luke: MY OFFICE NOW!! Dom: On my way. Leo: Me too. What's going on? Luke: Just get here ASAP. Don't talk to anyone, ESPECIALLY Taylor! That's an order! Dom: Got it. Leo: Okay? I put my phone on my desk and sat in my chair. I was took long, deep breathes. A few minutes later, there was a knock on my door. I jumped up and opened it. Dom and Leo stood on the other side, total confusion on their faces. I ushered them inside and locked the door. "What is going on man? You look like shit." Leo said. "First, every single word spoken in this room right now, stays between the three of us. Understand?" I used my Alpha tone on them and their eyes widened. "Yes Alpha." They said. "Good. Dom? I need you to tell me something." "Okay?" He sat down in the chair opposite me. Leo leaned against the wall. "What happened when you knew Evelyn was your future mate? What were you doing?" I asked in a rush. He stared at me for a minute. "Why are you asking me that?" "JUST TELL ME!" I shouted. He stared at me blankly before answering. "I was doing the deed with Evelyn, and I looked into her eyes, and I just knew." He answered. Leo started to say something, but I held my hand up. I thought for a second. "Did Cloud know? Did he say anything to you?" I asked. Dom looked even more perplexed, but answered. "He didn't really say anything. When I looked into Evie's eyes, Cloud howled, and I felt the need to mark her." I dropped my head onto my desk with a loud thud. I was so f****d. "Luke, man, what the f**k? " Leo asked. I just shook my head. "I don't understand. Why are you so pissed? And why do you want to know what Cloud did before I marked Evelyn?" Dom asked. I looked at them. They looked worried, understandably. But there was something else. I couldn't understand why they kept glancing at each other. "Is something going on?" I asked sharply. "What do you mean?" Leo asked. He wouldn't look at me though. I looked at Dom, but he was also avoiding my gaze. "Seriously, what's is wrong with you two?" I snapped. Dom took a deep breath. "Luke... did you mark Taylor? Is that why you're asking us this?" He asked. He seemed genuinely worried about my answer. "Would it be so bad if I did?" I asked them. Both if their eyes widened dramatically. "No..." Leo said. "You're a shitty liar Leo. What would be so bad if I did mark Taylor? Huh? What do you have against her?" I snapped and he flinched. He looked to Dom for help. "You want us to say it then?" Dom said. "Say what?" "Fine. We don't like Taylor. No, we hate Taylor. We don't want her for our Luna. She is stuck up, and a total b***h. She gets off on putting others down, and she treats you like s**t. She doesn't respect you as her partner, or her Alpha. She only cares about herself. She bullies other girls in the pack for not being werewolves, and we ourselves have heard her say she will banish all non-wolves when she becomes Luna. If you've marked her, I'm resigning my post as Beta, and leaving the pack." That floored me. Never once has Dom spoken to me that bluntly. I searched his eyes, and I found nothing but cold, hard truth. Hearing all that about Taylor made me sick. I looked at Leo, and he just nodded. They were in agreement about resigning and leaving. How the f**k did I not know all this before now? "Why didn't you say anything until now?" I asked them both. "Because we were hoping you'd realize she is not good for you. We understand why you felt the need to make it work, but even you have to admit it's strange that you never felt the need to mark her." Leo said. He had a point. I did find it strange. There were many times I thought about marking Taylor, but Lochie held back. He wouldn't let me. Both parties had to be in agreement to mark their mate. I never even felt the need to go through with Choosing her. And if I was being honest with myself, Taylor had begun to become a burden more than a partner these few months. There were times I made excuses about work just to avoid seeing her. That was the reason I started eating dinner in my office. "I didn't mark Taylor." I said. They looked at me with nothing short of relief. "But I did feel the need to mark my future mate." They both looked down at that. "Who, if I'm correct, is not Taylor." I finished. "What? Then who is it?" Leo asked. "Ava." I said. "WHAT?!" They both shouted at me. "How do you know that?" Dom asked. "Because when I was making out with her, there was a moment when I looked into her eyes, and Lochie howled in my head. And then I felt the need to mark her, to claim her." Dom stood up suddenly and Leo pushed away from the wall. Both of then were asking me question after question. I held my hands and they stopped talking. I recounted how I went to Avas room to apologize, and explain everything I knew to her, and how that led to the make-out session, and then my urge to mark her. When I was done, both were sitting in the chairs across my desk staring at me like I had three heads. "What do I do now guys? I can't just spring this on Ava. And Taylor... she's not going to take it lightly." "f**k her. She's not your true mate. If she was, she would have been Chosen, mated a marked already." Dom said. "I agree. But I also agree that telling Ava right now isn't a good idea. She's been here what? Not even two days. Give her a couple weeks. Don't crowd her either. Let her get used to things first." Leo put in. The thought of basically avoiding Ava made me stomach upset. But Leo was right. This would be too much, too fast. "Alright. Does this mean I'm not losing my Beta and Gamma?" I asked them. They looked at each other. "Nope. Ava seems like a nice girl. We'll just hope she doesn't turn out to be a bitch." Leo said. Dom nodded. I scowled at the two of them. "So... When are you breaking up with Taylor?" Leo asked excitedly. I threw a pen at him. "You need to do it Luke. You can't string her along when you know who your true mate is." Dom said. "You just want her gone ASAP." I said to him. He smirked, not even trying to hide it. Now that I knew what kind of person Taylor was behind my back, I wanted her gone too. I felt like an i***t for not seeing it before. Evelyn was right. I was a lovesick puppy who gave her everything she wanted simply because I didn't want to fight. I even had a spare room to sleep in when we did fight. I knew that wasn't love. But I ignored it anyways. I really was stupid. "I'll do it tonight. Happy?" I asked. They nodded enthusiastically. This was not going to be easy. "I wonder why you felt the need to mark Ava though. You've literally known her a day." Leo said. "Yeah, I was wondering that too." Dom said. I thought about it too. Luckily, I knew just who to ask. I grabbed my phone and dialed Dr. Dwarn. "Alpha? What can I do for you?" "Hey Doc. Can you come to my office? There's something I need to discuss with you, and it's important." "Sure thing. I'll be right there." "Thanks." I hung up. Five minutes later, there was a knock. Dom unlocked the door and let the good doctor in. "Good morning gentleman, Alpha." He nodded his head at us. We said our hellos. "Doc, first, I need to swear that what we are about to discuss stays between us. I will tell the rest of the pack, but not right now, and I'll explain why in a minute. Can I trust you with this?" I asked him sternly. "Of course. Nothing we say will leave this room. I give you my word Alpha." He replied. I then launched into everything, with the help of Dom and Leo, on the events of yesterday, last night, and leading up to this morning, and the reason I called him in here. "I was hoping you could tell me why I feel the need to mark Ava, when I just met her." I finished. Dr.Dwarn stared at me silently. "Doc?" "I'm sorry Alpha... that was a lot to take in. The Blessed Elemental is actually alive?" "Yes. Although, she doesn't believe she is blessed. She thinks of it as more of a curse." "Understandable, giving that her powers are the root of her demise." He said. "Doc, I need to know why I feel so strongly towards Ava. I've never heard of this happening." I said. "That's easy to explain actually. You and Ava are Destined mates." He stated simply. "What the difference?" I asked. "True mates are the norm. Like Dom and Evelyn. They met, he Chose her, they mated and marked. That's how it goes ninety-nine percent of the time. Destined mates are truly rare. I've never actually seen for myself a pair, but there are books I've read. The connection between the two is so strong, they can actually forego the Choosing process, and go straight to mating and marking." He explained. "But the Choosing is our way of strengthing the connection that leads to the mate bond?" Dom asked. "Yes, it is. When two mates go through the Choosing ceremony, the connection is then almost as strong as the actual mate bond. But with Destined mates, it's already that strong. I've read that when Destined mates mate and mark each other, they have a bond that equals no other." "Whoa. That sounds intense." Leo chimed in. "It can be, yes." Dr. Dwarn answered. "Okay. So what do I do? We already agreed not to tell Ava, at least not yet." I said. "I would advise that that is the best course Alpha. I agree you should let Ava get used to the Pack first. Let her settle in. Do not spring too much on her all at once. Also, you need to get rid of that b***h Taylor too." He said. I did a double take. The good doctor never used that language, at least not in front of me. "After listening to everything you've said, I feel it is no longer necessary for me to hide my true feelings towards that woman." He explained. "No, you're good doc. You just surprised me is all." I said, and he laughed. Seemed like Evelyn was right about that too. Everyone in the pack really did hate Taylor. "I'll take my leave Alpha. I have some patients I need to attend to." He bowed his head at me, Dom and Leo before leaving. "Dom, Leo, will you please tell Ava to come to my office?" I asked them. They gave each other knowing smirks. "Get your minds out if the gutter! I want to talk to her about letting the pack know who she is." I barked at them. They nodded and left. This was going to be difficult. I would have to pretend this morning didn't happen, even though I was practically bouncing at the thought of seeing her again. I was right before. Ava was like a drug, and I was addicted already. If I made it threw this meeting with her without jumping her bones, I deserved a damn medal.
