FLASHBACK
It did not take long for the news to spread that both founders of the Rogue Mafia, Victor and Victoria, had been killed before wolves from across the organization were clamoring for the position as its leader. Most of those vying for the opportunity had all gathered on the west coast in an old shipping warehouse that was in a deserted port far from any prying eyes of the human authorities.
There were hundreds of wolves that had shown up ready to fight it out. Most were rogues, but there were a few that were pack wolves and not just regular warriors. No, these were Alphas. Each of them were eyeing the other, determining just how much of a threat they would be. Many of the rogues were a bit apprehensive of the pack Alphas being there and kept their distance from them.
There was a large cage that had been constructed in the center of the room for anyone who wanted a chance to fight it out. Once the fighting started, there was one wolf who stood out amongst the others. He was a sadistic looking rogue wolf, probably in his mid-thirties, with a long scar down the right side of his face that disappeared down into his shirt, and many more scars covering his arms and chest. He was a formidable opponent and had managed to quickly take out the four remaining wolves that had been fighting for the top spot. I know I didn’t look like much, but I had a secret weapon that put me above the rest.
A potion that had helped an old acquaintance become damn near indestructible. It had not helped him as much as he would have liked, since the other wolf was still too powerful for him. But here it would be just enough to gain me that coveted spot at the top. I pulled the small vile out of my pocket and drank its contents.
My wolf was now growling and pacing in my mind, ready to spring forth to the surface as I walked closer to the makeshift stage that was actually a loading dock for the warehouse. I can feel the power of the potion as it starts to take full effect, my senses are heightened even more then they had been. I smiled a bit nefariously, and that had the wolves that were standing close to me stepping aside as I made my way to the loading dock.
"Who do you think you are?" Said the wolf as he crossed his arms over his chest and looked down his nose at me as I made my way up the side stairs and onto the platform like I belonged there. Because I did. This was going to be MINE. I had lost everything because of the Mafia. If anyone was going to be its leader, it was going to be me.
"Me," I said, pointing a finger at myself and looking beside me before turning my attention back to him, "I am the one in charge here." I added with a smug smile pulling at the corner of my mouth.
The wolf just laughed along with many of the other wolves that were present, all of them thinking that there was no way I could take on this wolf. My wolf growled in my head at their disrespect. "You really think you can take me?" He said with another laugh as he looked out into the crowd that also snickered.
But before he could ask another question, my wolf surged forward, taking over and launched a bloody attack that left the whole room gapping in shock once it was all over. In less than five minutes, my wolf had completely obliterated the other wolf, leaving nothing more than pieces of him scattered across the makeshift stage, and now stood in front of the others breathing heavily with blood covering his body, his menacing gaze daring any of them to try and challenge him now.
A deep growl left his chest and instantly all bared their necks to him in submission, acknowledging him as their new leader.
END FLASHBACK
I watched as the amber liquid swirled at the bottom of the crystal cut glass that was in my hand before bringing it to my lips and finishing it off. The burn of the alcohol leaves a trail of fire down my throat as it makes its way down. Rising to my feet, I made my way across the room to the large floor to ceiling window that looked out over the auction floor that was just below my office. A slow smile crossed my face as I watched my wolves scurrying about the room setting up everything for tonight's show.
I have changed a lot in the past two years since I took over the Rogue Mafia. My wolf used to be a simple power-hungry wolf that craved power. Now that he had that power, he had become a monster striking fear into any wolf that even dared to try and challenge him. A few had tried but none had come out alive after that.
I also changed the entire make-up of the organization once I took over. We no longer did contract work like before. I had a bigger dream. Like dismantling the hierarchy of Werewolf Society, and I had spent the past two years gathering as many rogue wolves as possible from across the country to join me to accomplish that goal.
Many rogues were willing to join the cause, but for a price. Many of them wanted money and many had wanted women and that started the auction side of the Mafia. While most packs were well allied among some of the larger packs, there were a few that were not. Most of these Alpha’s were now on the outskirts of werewolf society for not falling in line with the ruling pack. They were more than willing to "sell" some of their lower-ranked she wolves to me with the promise of a higher position within the new society once the royal pack had been eliminated. These Alphas still harbored ill feelings against The Halo Pack for pushing them out. The she wolves that they sold to me were either passed around amongst the lower rogues or the nicer ones would be sold at the auction house, mostly as s*x slaves to other wolves.
We also dabbled in a bit of human trafficking as well. That one was a bit trickier at first to maneuver through, but since I worked out the kinks, it has become very profitable. Humans were still greedy though, but were nowhere near brave enough to stand up and demand more money for the women that they sold, taking even the smallest amount I offered to them in exchange. They did not realize that they were selling their daughters to werewolves, but when they had their own mounting debts to pay, they didn’t care too much about where the girl ended up , as long as they got their money.
The Vampires are more than willing to work with us as well now. Once, I met with their king and explained how I could be of assistance to the Vampire race. He was very happy to lend his assistance to my cause when the time came. They still paid a pretty penny for their new blood bags, but it was more for their convenience of not having to take the women themselves.
I had a few auction houses across the country for easy access for my buyers, but this one was by far my favorite. Las Vegas made the perfect location, keeping it out of the prying eyes of any pack territories and the constant flow of women coming to the city offered more product without having to pay for them.
Tonight was going to be one of our bigger nights with close to thirty she-wolves of all ages and rank and maybe fifty human women from the surrounding states that were going to be auctioned off to the highest bidders. A sinister smile spreads across my face as the room is brought to life.
“It is almost show time.” I told my wolf.
"Alpha Draven, we have a problem." James says through a mind link.
“Great, that's just what we need.” My wolf says, rolling his eyes.
"What is it?" I growled out. My wolf searched below for James just as there was a knock on my office door.
“Enter.’ I said and James walked in and quickly made his way across the room to stand next to me, but he was focused down below. Following his eyes, I spotted what he meant. There in the corner of the room was a wolf from my past. He was trying to blend in with the rest of the wolves that were setting up but James and I both knew exactly every wolf that was supposed to be there that night and he wasn’t one of them. In fact, he had been on the run too for a couple of years, always staying out of sight from my men. He still owed me money after all.
“How did he manage to get inside?” I asked, annoyed with my men for not catching him as he tried to enter. His original mark was just barely visible on his neck but both James and I had seen it as he turned around looking behind him to see if he had been noticed. With the help of a witch, I had the brand that marked the members changed. Instead of just the RM, there is now a full moon that engulfs the letters.
“Not sure yet, Alpha, but I will take care of him,” James says with a smug smile. He loved to fight and had quickly risen through the ranks and was now my right-hand man when it came to the organization.
“Wait” I said, stopping him before he could turn away from the window. Meeting his stunned expression, I continued, “Don’t confront him just yet. Watch him closely. There must be a reason why he would suddenly come out of hiding.”
“Yes Alpha.” James says before he turns and exits my office.
My wolf and I watched from the window above and the wolf slowly made his way throughout the room unaware of James as he followed him. He would occasionally try a door handle that would not get him anywhere, as everything was kept locked down to prevent any of the women from making an escape.
The clock on my mantel chimed, signaling that it was now time for the bidding to start. I grabbed the decanter of whiskey, filling another glass before I headed out to see just why he was there when he had made himself scarce since the night I had been caught and placed in that cell.
"What do you think he could be here searching for?" I asked my wolf as I continued to watch the man walk all around the auction room before he found a spot in the back of the room trying to keep himself hidden.
"I think we are about to find out," My wolf growls.
The auctioneer bangs his gavel, signaling for everyone to be silent for the bidding. The first group of females is brought out from a side door on the stage and it is always a mix of humans and she-wolves. The auctioneer started the bidding on the first female as she is tugged forward. She was a pretty human female, probably no more than seventeen, and had been quickly purchased by a vampire for five hundred thousand dollars. That sum of money would go a long way in gathering more support for my cause. The human had immediately been removed from the stage and brought to the back where the buyer would get the chance to inspect his merchandise.
The night went on perfectly, many of the women selling for thousands of dollars. When the last group of females was trotted out across the stage, a loud growl reverberated throughout the room, grabbing everyone's attention. Scanning the area for the source of the commotion, I noticed that the last female was trembling more than the others. She looked like she just might pass out as she stared out into the crowd. I followed her gaze, which was locked on a particular person that was standing in the back of the room.
"Well, this is a first," I told my Wolf. Out of the many auctions that have been held over the past year, this has never happened before.
"MINE" His wolf growls out loudly, drawing the entire crowd's attention as he quickly approaches the stage. The crowd parted for him, several astonished looks are cast his way as he marches down the aisle.
"Sir, you need to have a seat. The bidding will start now for the next female." The auctioneer said sternly, but his wolf paid him no mind and continued to approach the stage stairs.
I gave a simple nod and two of my guards stepped in to pull him away from the stage and away from his apparent mate. His wolf is pissed as he tries to sling my men off him and almost manages to, but in the end he just isn’t strong enough to take on these two. His wolf growls again as he again tries to fight off the wolves holding him away from his mate.
"We might be able to use this to our advantage," My Wolf says as he takes in the scene as it unfolds.
"What do you have in mind?" I asked curiously.
"Bring him on board. He isn't new to the game and can help with oversight and training new recruits for future retrievals." My Wolf says.
"He knows who we are though, and we have worked too hard to build this up to have him dismantle it." I said.
"Oh, he won't say a word." My Wolf says as he bares his teeth at the man from inside my head. "We will have his pretty little mate. And if he so much as says a word to anyone, she will face the consequences. That should be all the motivation he needs to keep his mouth shut and do as he is told, plus he still owes us ten thousand dollars. I think it is about time he paid up, don’t you?"
A smile pulls at the corner of my lips. He has a point. Wolves will do anything to ensure their mates' safety, so as long as I had control over her, he would do whatever I said.
"TRIGGER" I roared out from the top of the stairs loudly, drawing everyone's attention to me. Those that had been standing close to the stairs slowly backed away as I made my way down the stairs. My wolf's aura was oozing out of me and it caused those close by to step away in fear. He turned around and I watched as shock registered across his face as he realized who had called out for him, a bit of his color now draining from his face.
"That will be enough Trigger." I commanded and motioned for the girl to be removed from the stage and his wolf had the balls to bare his teeth to me. "Now, that is not the way you greet an old friend, now, is it? Especially not when they are the one who currently owns your mate." I said smugly, knowing I had just hit a nerve and if looks could kill, I would already be torn to shreds by now.
"Release her NOW!" His wolf growled through gritted teeth, his eyes were swirling with black as his wolf came to the surface. The entire auditorium of wolves and vampires was watching with rapt attention as an unknown wolf was basically challenging the Alpha of the Rogue Mafia, knowing this never ended well for the others.
"Now why would I do that?" I said as I took a sip of the whiskey in my hand before turning around to head back up to my office. I stopped and looked over my shoulder at the murderous looking wolf, "Well, are you coming or would you rather she went back out for sale? I am sure there are a few in here who would love to have such a beautiful prize." I said and smiled when he growled again, but he started up the stairs with my men flanking him.
Making my way down the short hallway, I opened the door to the left and walked in. "Now where have you been hiding out all this time?" I questioned him as the two of us entered my office and I rounded my desk, taking a seat in the large leather chair.
"I could ask you the same thing, but I guess I have my answer now, " he said, motioning to his surroundings. "How did you manage to get out of Blackwater in the first place? Last time I saw you, you were getting your ass handed to you by your pack mates." he said, "Not your finest hour, now, was it?"
My wolf surges forward and lunches himself at Trigger, wrapping his hand around his throat, growling loudly, causing the walls to rattle from the force, "I would be very careful how you choose to speak to the man that currently OWNS your mate!" My wolf says, squeezing just a bit to get this point across.
"Bring her in" I commanded through a mind link to the guards, and the door that connected my office to the large conference room next door swung open and in walked two of my men with Trigger’s mate. She was a pretty thing with light brown hair and soft brown eyes and a very nice figure that was currently still on display for everyone inside the room to see.
Trigger growls as they bring her to my side, she keeps her head bowed and her eyes on the floor just like she had been taught. Since I had chosen to not have a mate, I liked to break in a few of the women myself while they are here, and she just so happened to be one of mine.
"Well, it seems she is indeed your mate." I said with a grin as I touched her cheek, causing her to shrink away from my touch and her gaze to find her mates then. I can see a bit of pain in her eyes as she looks at him, probably worried about just what he will think of her when he finds out just how I used her pretty little body.
"What are you willing to do for your mate Trigger?" I asked now. "I spent a great deal of money on her. She was one of my favorites." A mischievous smile on my lips as he realized just what I meant by her being a favorite of mine. “And you still owe me anyway.” I said, circling behind her.
"What do you want?" He asked gruffly, his eyes never leaving his mate.
A smile pulling at the corner of my mouth. "Work for me. I need someone with your skills to help increase our inventory." I said and looked back at his mate. "Work for me and I will give you your mate in exchange and forgive your current debt to me once I have what I want."
“That’s it?” he asked, his brows drawing together, weighing his options on how to get his mate out of here unscathed.
“This is all just for money," I said, watching the back and forth he was having with his wolf about what what he should do right now.
"f*****g hell" he says as he drags his hand down his face in exasperation before looking back over at his mate with longing.
"Deal!"
