Nola
The walk to the restaurant was lovely. The place was so beautiful. There was a comfortable silence between us as we walked. I was thinking about what Kylan had told me. I wasn’t surprised when he told me what he did because he seems like the type of man who needs control in all aspects of his life.
Everyone has the things they are into. I wouldn’t judge him for what he is into. I am not going to run away because of it. I believe neither of us knows what is going on between us. Who knows, maybe I am into those things. You don’t know until you try. And if we get to that, and I don’t like it, then I walk away. This may not work out.
I may not be that kind of woman. I am sure he will never be the type of guy I usually go for, but time will tell.
“Are you OK? You have fallen quiet,” he questioned.
“Yes. I am thinking is all,”
“About?”
“Our conversation,” I replied.
“Oh...OK,”
He sounded disappointed when he said it. I believe he is thinking the worse.
“Don’t worry. It isn’t in a bad way,”
“It isn’t?” he responded, surprised.
“No, just general thinking,” I smiled.
“OK,” he smiled back.
Kylan slid his arm around me and pulled me into his side. I grinned to myself when he did. We soon arrived at the restaurant.
“Mr Jonas, it is good to see you again, sir,” the hostess spoke.
“Hello, is my usual table available?”
There was no emotion to his tone when he asked.
“Yes, sir, follow me,” she replied.
Kylan removed his hand from around me, and to my surprise, he slipped his hand into mine and linked our fingers. We followed the hostess through the restaurant to a table at the window. You could see the view of the ocean from it.
“Can we get the wine list, please?” he asked as we sat.
“I will send someone straight over with it,”
She headed off, coming back only moments later with both the drink and menus before leaving us to it.
“Have you ever been here?” he asked.
“No, not that I can recall,”
“Well, you are in for a treat. Order whatever you like, my treat,”
“I can pay for my food, you know?” I chuckled.
“I know, but I am buying. End of discussion,”
The firmness was back in his voice. I rolled my eyes in response, and he gave me a stern look. I flashed my best innocent smile at him. He was trying his best not to smile, but in the end, he did.
“Wine?”
“Yes, please,” I spoke.
“OK. White, red or rose wine?”
“White or rose. Red wine is disgusting,”
A waiter came for our drink orders, and Kylan ordered two glasses of what is probably the most expensive white wine on the menu. I shouldn’t be surprised because it is evident, he enjoys the more costly things in life.
“We should decide what we want to eat before he comes back with our drinks,” he suggested.
“Good idea,”
We both took a look through the menu. Kylan ordered the steak, and I decided on the roasted salmon.
“I thought you wanted three courses?” he laughed.
“I changed my mind,” I shrugged.
“We can have dessert after our main,”
I nodded and smiled. I will never say no to dessert. The waiter came back with our drinks and took our food orders.
“Come over here,”
He wasn’t asking. He was more like telling.
“You can go back to your seat when the food arrives,”
He must have sensed my hesitation. Kylan motioned me to him and brought my wine to his side of the table. I stood, going around to his side and sat next to him. He turned to face me and gave me my wine. I took it from him, thanking him.
Kylan reached in and stroked the hair away from my face.
“That’s better,” he whispered and stroked my cheek.
I moaned and moved into his touch.
“If we weren’t in public, I would kiss you. I don’t show affection in public,” he breathed out.
I wonder if that is the truth, or it was because he was in public with me. I tried to hide my disappointment.
“I know what you are thinking. Stop it, right now, Nola,”
How can he know what I am thinking? I went to protest, but I didn’t have a chance because he captured my lips with him. I whimpered, not expecting it. He cupped my face in his hand and used the other to bring my chair closer to his. The kiss lasted only a moment.
“I thought you didn’t kiss in public?”
“I don’t, not usually, but I didn’t like how you thought I was ashamed to be seen with you,”
“How can you seem to read me so well?”
“I am good at reading people and body language,”
He put a distance between us and took a sip of his wine, and I did the same.
“What is it you are studying? Your father mentioned it,” he asked.
“I am studying to become a paediatric nurse,” I smiled.
“That’s amazing. Business not for you?”
“No, it is not something that ever appealed to me, even though my entire family do it,”
“What did your father think of that when you told him?”
“He understood and respected it. As long as I agreed to let him pay for my studies, for everything else, I take care of myself. I don’t ask them for money unless I am struggling,” I answered.
“That makes sense,” he smiled.
Our conversation stopped there because our food arrived. I went back to my original seat, so we both had more room to eat. It looked delicious.
“What about you? Has business always been what you wanted to do?” I asked.
“No,” he replied blankly.
I got a feeling he didn’t want to talk about it. I didn’t say anything; instead, I turned my attention to my food.
“Nola, I am sorry. I didn’t mean to be so dry with you. I don’t like talking about myself because my life is complicated, and has been since I was a kid,”
“It is OK,”
I didn’t look at him when I did. I took a bite of my salmon, and as I did, I heard him sigh from across the table.
“Kitten, look at me,”
I shuddered when he called me kitten. I seemed to like him calling me that now. I lifted my head and made eye contact with him.
“Yes?” I asked.
“It is nothing personal, I promise. I don’t tell anyone anything about myself,”
“Kylan, you don’t need to apologise or explain anything to me,”
It isn’t like we were dating or anything. He doesn’t need to tell me anything.
“OK,” he responded, “How is the salmon?”
“Absolutely delicious. How is your steak?”
“Good. They know how I like it here,”
“Hmm, something tells me no matter where you go, people aim to please,” I giggled.
“I guess so,” he laughed, “But, I also aim to please,” he added, with a smirk.
“I don’t doubt that,” I snickered.
He winked at me and got back to eating. I got my mind out of the gutter that it seemed to be going into, and he did the same. I don’t know how I will deal with him for the rest of the day. I will surely find out, though.
