Chapter Six - The Hamptons?

1709 Words
Nola    I was having a mini freak out as I got ready. I regret agreeing to go to breakfast with him. But, I can’t change my mind now. Kylan will be here in twenty minutes. I had kept my look casual yet cute. I don’t even know if this is just breakfast or a date. Can breakfast even be a date? I don’t know! I had dressed in my favourite shorts, a cute tee with my converse. My hair is up in a high ponytail, and I kept my make-up light with only mascara and gloss. I was using the time I had left before he got here to try to pull myself together.    “I got this,” I whispered to myself.    I got pulled out of my thoughts with a knock on my front door. Has it been twenty minutes already? I checked the time. It had only been five minutes. He was early. Well, I am assuming it is him. I am not expecting anyone else to come. My father dropped my car off at eight a.m. He came in for only a minute to say hello. I was glad he didn’t stay in case he was still here when Kylan came. That would be a hard one to explain to my father.    I took a deep breath before going to answer the door. When I opened it, Kylan stood on the other side with a confident stance. My breath hitched in my throat at the sight of him. He looked dressed in jeans and a very sexy, tight tee that showed every muscle. Those damn hot muscles. I wondered what was under his clothes.    “Are you wondering what I look like naked, Kitten?”    The sound of his voice snapped me out of the naughty world I had put myself into.    “Uh? I don’t know what you mean,” I stammered out.    “Yes, you were. Ready to go?” he smirked.  I nodded, grabbed my bag before heading out. Kylan placed his hand on the small of my back. I shuddered under his touch. I wished he would stop having such an effect on me. He opened the car door for me to climb in. I slid in and turned to face him. He rested against the door and looked at me.    “You look good this morning, gorgeous,” he spoke before he closed the door.    I don’t know how I am going to handle him again today. He ran around and climbed into the driver’s seat.    “We are going out of the city. I thought it would be less risk that way,” he said.    “Good idea,”    I don’t need anyone seeing us together. The last thing I need is it getting back to my father.    “We are going to the Hamptons,”    That is two and a half hours away from the city. I am sure we could go somewhere closer to home.    “I barely even know you. So, what makes you think I want to go that far away with you?” I questioned.   “Nola, relax. You can trust me, I promise,” he said, “If it makes you feel better, text one of your friends and tell them where you are, even who you are with if you want,”    I will text Paris, not because I don’t trust him. Strangely I do. The only reason is that she told me to text her where we were going when we spoke on the phone this morning.  “Why so far away? We could have gone somewhere closer,” I suggested.    “I know, but I love the Hamptons. The food is always delicious, and I have a place there if you want somewhere to relax for the day,” he smiled.    I do love the place, even though I haven’t been there in a long time.    “I have missed the place. It will be nice to go again and see it all,” I smiled.    “Then today, we shall have fun,”    “Can we go somewhere to get a coffee and pastry to take away? It will be lunchtime by the time we get there. I haven’t had anything to eat this morning,”    “Sure,”    Thank God because I am so hungry since I didn’t have breakfast since, well, we were supposed to be going for that and not lunch.    “Yay!” I said excitedly.    “You are cute,” he chuckled.    He reached over and rested his hand on my knee. A silence came between us as we drove. It wasn’t an uncomfortable one, though. We went for about twenty minutes before stopping at a coffee shop.    “I will go in. What do you want, sweetness?”    “Hmm, vanilla latte and a cinnamon roll, please?”    I went into my bag to get money to give him, but he stopped me and insisted he got it. Kylan made his way inside, and while he was, I took a minute to text Paris to let her know where we were going. It didn’t take long for her to text me back.    Oh fancy! Have fun and remember protection. Yes, I would love to be an Auntie again, little sis, but not this soon ha-ha X    Trust my sister to say that.    I am not going to have s*x with Kylan. Trust you to go there ha-ha X    You say that now, but that much man isn’t easy to resist. I am sure he won’t disappoint X   I will talk to you later. Goodbye, Paris! X    I didn’t want to have this conversation when I knew that Kylan would be back at any time. I slipped my phone back into my bag, and only a couple of minutes later, he came back. He handed me my coffee and pastry.    “Thank you,” I smiled.    I went to take a drink of my latte, and something caught my eye. There was a woman’s name and phone number written on the cup.    “I think this is for you, Kylan,”    “No, I have my black coffee here,”    “I don’t mean that. I mean the number on my cup. Shall I hold onto it for you? Write it down?”   “I don’t want it,” he shrugged. I may have smiled to myself when he said he didn’t want it. I guess I like that he wasn’t interested in her.    “I knew you wanted me for yourself,” he said slyly.    “What makes you think that?”    “The relief on your face and the smile on your lips when I mentioned I didn’t want the number,”    I should have known he would pick up on those things.    “OK then, you keep telling yourself that,” I giggled.    “I will because it is true. And the way you kissed me back last night told me everything I needed to know,”   He always sounded confident in everything he spoke.    “And as I told you last night, I am not that type of woman,”    “I didn’t say you were,” he replied, “With you, things seem different, so I know I need to work harder when it comes to you,”    “Or you can give up, forget all about me and move on,”    That would make all of this so much simpler.    “Nope, I am not going to do that, Kitten,”    “Why are you this damn persistent with me?” I sighed.    “You stole my attention from the moment I saw you at the coffee shop,” he responded, “Once that happens, it isn’t easy for me to let it go,”    So, what, basically he isn’t going to back off until he gets what he wants. Great! There is only a certain length of time that I will be able to fight my attraction to him. He sticks around long enough I will break! Maybe that won’t be such a bad thing. Kylan could be what I needed for now.    Between classes and work, I don’t have the time to have someone in my life in a relationship sort of way, so maybe Kylan can take care of my other needs. Oh wow! Am I really thinking all of this? Could I be that type of girl? I am not sure; time will tell, I guess.    “You are a man that no one can work out, aren’t you?” I laughed.    “Yes. It would need to be someone special and patient to do that,”    My gut tells me he isn’t one for letting people get close to him.    “One day, that person will appear,” I stated.    “No, that will never happen. I can guarantee you that,”    He tried to laugh it off, but I could tell he was uncomfortable with the conversation. I won’t say anything else about it.    “Is your place on the beach?”   “Yes, the beach is basically my backdoor. I usually spend a couple of weeks every summer at it,”    “It is a good place to do that and to get away,” I smiled.    Kylan smiled and then put his attention entirely on the road. We still had an hour and a half until we got there.    “How about we go to the house first, leave the care there and then walk to the restaurant?”    “Yes, I am fine with that,” I grinned.    I loved to walk, loved the fresh air, especially the sea air. I am not dreading today as much as I was when I got up this morning. I took a moment to admire him. He is probably the most handsome man I have ever met. I took my glance away from him before he caught me staring. Not only that but for my own sanity! There is a strange urge in me to grab and kiss him.   But for as long as I can, I will fight it. Once I let myself start that I don’t think I would stop.
