Episode 5: Painful Heat

I woke up with a burning sensation in my body. I gasped for air because my breath became heavier because of the pain. I cried while I lay in a fetal position, my whole body was burning and the pain was unbearable. I cried for help but no one came. I heard a howl outside my cottage and then followed by another howl.

Someone knocked on my door and I heard a sniffing outside. I realized that I was in heat, a she-wolf would experience heat after 5 days of meeting her mate. I shook my head as tears formed in my eyes. The guys will not be able to control themselves around me because my smell will be arousing to them.

"Open that door, little kitty." I heard a male voice and then followed by another male.

"She's mine for tonight," I heard another one say. My heat will only disappear if I will mate with Orpheous but he is not here. I prayed to God that Orpheous would come and barge in the door and save me but who am I kidding?

I whimpered when they started breaking the door and I closed my eyes. I heard a familiar loud growl outside and I knew that it was Orpheous because of the smell. I heard a loud thump and a groan and the door opened and I saw my mate walking towards me with the darkest eyes I've ever seen. I hugged my body and begged him to take the pain away.

He wrapped his arms around me and carried me and the pain subsided while I was in his arms. I snuggled into his chest as he carried me to God knows where. I realized that I was heading to the pack house.

The full moon is shining over us and I glance at my mate, he looks so deep in his thoughts. We finally went inside and I saw members of the pack looking at us in confusion. I heard my mate sigh.

"She's in heat and her mate is in the neighboring pack so I have to put her in the cell. I am the only one who can control my desire to a she-wolf in heat," He said to the pack and I whimpered in pain because of what he said. The members bowed their heads while the guys in the pack were trying to control their desire to claim me. If a she-wolf is with the Alpha during her heat, nobody can touch her except the Alpha.

We arrived at the dungeon and I looked at him with teary eyes.

"D-don't leave me, please," I whispered painfully but he didn't listen. He opened the cell and put me down on the floor and I thrashed around when the burning sensation reappeared. I cried and looked at him with begging eyes.

"P-please Alpha, it hurts!" I cried and clutched my chest. He didn't move in his spot and he just stared at me with no emotion. I lent my hands for him to touch and begged him.

"Mate," I whispered painfully and I saw a flash of guilt in his eyes but it was banished quickly and he went outside and locked the cell. I sobbed and lay there in a fetal position. After a few hours of moaning in pain, I finally fell asleep and I was out like a light.

I woke up with a huge headache. I opened my eyes and realized that I was still in a cell. My body feels numb and I am glad that the heat is over now. Sadly, it will be back if I don't be mated to my mate and the only way to avoid it is to break the bond.

I sat up slowly and winced in pain. There are bruises on my legs and my arms because of the burning feeling last night. I look like a mess. I tried to call my wolf again but she still wouldn't answer. This is very unlikely to her. I miss her so much and I can't do all of this alone. I saw a guy opening my cell and I stood up shakily.

A familiar face came to help me and I saw David looking at me worriedly.

"Are you okay?" He asked and I nodded my head as he helped me walk. I glance towards him, he has chocolate brown hair and bright green eyes, his body is built and I think he's about 6 feet tall compared to my 5'4 height. He is good-looking but nothing compared to my mate. He doesn't talk much and is always deep in his thoughts.

"Where is your mate?" I asked softly and he tensed beside me. I think I just hit the soft spot. "I'm sorry, I shouldn't have asked," I said to him and I heard him sigh.

"My mate is dead," He said with no emotion and I gasped in shock. He glanced at me. "That's why I was chosen by the Alpha to become your fake mate because I don't have any." He said and I bowed my head.

"I'm really sorry for your loss, I don't know how you handle that," I whispered.

"The Alpha is your mate, isn't it?" He asked and I shook my head, feeling scared. Orpheous said that I shouldn't tell anyone. I heard David chuckle.

"No need to deny it, I can see it in his eyes." He said and I stared at him. My mate's eyes are always cold and cruel towards me, he hates me. "Our Alpha hates rogues, he loathes them because of the past. That's why he seems to hate you but trust me, he is fighting with his emotions." He said and I bit my lip. I don't think so. Orpheus left me all alone in my heat, he doesn't care about me.

We fell silent and we arrived at my small cottage and he helped me lay in the bed.

"You can rest for now, you still have to clean and cook for the pack." He said and I nodded my head and covered my body with a blanket. He walked towards the door and I called him.

"Thank you, David," I said softly and he gave me a court nod and left. I slept all day to recover my body. My bruises are slowly healing and I have to get ready tomorrow for pack duties. Sadly, I have to face my mate again and I don't think I can face him. I can't believe that he would leave me in pain. I don't believe what David said to me that Orpheous is fighting with his emotions because he already showed me that he doesn't have to do anything with me.

Sooner or later, I have to break the bond between us but I am still holding on to this small thread that maybe my mate will learn to love me.
