Callen's POV
"We've been trying to overthrow the Kingdom for years now. It didn't work then, and it didn't work now. I take full reasonability. Let my pack go and kill me." he said. I was a little surprised at how easily he gave himself up. An alpha would do that for their pack, but this man wasn't an Alpha. He didn't have the size or the authority about him. Something was off here. He was protecting someone.
"I can find out," Smoke linked me.
"How? I don't want to torture him just yet."
"I have a gift." he said, but wouldn't tell me anymore and for some reason I didn't want to press for more information just yet.
I turned and looked at my betas who were just standing there, not saying or doing anything.
"I have a picture for you," Declan linked me.
"I'm in the dungeon, bring it to me now," I linked back and looked back at Kaden and Asher, "watch him, I will be right back and don't hurt him."
"You're no fun," Kaden said with a smile on his face. The man could truly be a little unhinged sometimes. He liked this sort of thing.
I left the cell and ran up the dungeon stairs and waited outside. I knew how much Declan hated coming down here. I wasn't sure where he was coming from, so I just paced in front of the door. I finally saw him walking this way from the training field and headed his way.
"I zoomed in on the picture and printed it. It's a little pixelated, but it was the best I could do with what we have."
"No problem. Can you email the other pictures to me later?"
"I already did."
"Thanks man. I would invite you down, but I know how much you hate it down there."
"Thanks, I appreciate it. Let me know if I need to do anything else. You can find me in the security lab, going over footage."
"Good work," I told him and turned on my heel and headed back to the dungeon. I looked at the picture the whole way and there she was my mate. She is beautiful. Tall, slender, looked physically fit, those curves in all the right places, long blonde hair, and she had these t**s that looked amazing in her tight t-shirt. I couldn't tell what color her eyes were, but I would soon. Look out little mate, because I'm coming for you, I thought.
I opened the door and walked back down the stairs of the dungeon. I didn't notice the smell the first time. I was too worked up, but I've calmed down a little and now it smells horrible. I made my way back to the torture room and threw the door open and Smoke was pushing to take over, but I pushed him back down.
I stood in front of him and, from the look on his face, I knew my eyes were doing weird things again. I had to get that under control also. I wasn't sure what it was about, but something was up with them.
"Who are these girls?" I asked, holding the picture up. I watched as his face scanned over them and I saw the way he smiled for just a second and then he scowled.
"I have no clue."
"You are f*****g lying," Smoke said, pushing forward before I could stop him.
"I don't know," he said confidently again.
"Have it your way," Smoke said and walked behind him. I looked up at Kaden and Asher and they both had shocked looks on their faces. I wasn't sure what I looked like right now but that same green glow was coming from my eyes.
Smoke took my hand and released his claws, "this will hurt you more than me," he said, and then let out this loud chuckle, and it was a sound that I had never made before.
He placed his claws on his neck, his fours on one side of his spine and his thumb on the other and then punctured his skin, making him scream and by the time they were all the way in to the fingertips, his head fell forward, and his body slumped, but then it was like I was in his brain.
"How are you doing this?" His wolf asked.
"We're the Alpha King, we can do many things." Smoke said and laughed again, "now who are the girls?" he commanded. I guess I could have gone that route also, but Smoke took over and I let him. I honestly wanted to see what he could do.
"The redhead is my daughter," he said.
"What about the blonde?"
"Her father was our best friend. He was killed eight years ago, attacking the Kingdom."
"Why do you keep attacking the Kingdom?"
"At first it was because we wanted to take you down. They disbanded the council, and he wanted revenge and, as his beta, I went with him. Now I'm not sure. I'm tired of this game we've been playing and just want to live out the rest of my life, but I made a promise to him."
"What was that promise?"
"To keep his revenge going and to overthrow the Kingdom and protect his daughter."
"Where are they now?" I asked.
"I don't know. If they aren't down here, I don't know where they went. Please don't hurt them. They are young and have their entire life ahead of them." his wolf pleaded with us.
Smoke released his claws and I sucked in oxygen. It was like I didn't breathe the whole time we were doing that. My chest was heaving and burning, and I was a little bit dizzy. When I finally caught my breath and looked up, the man was still slumped over and there were puncture marks on his neck.
"Is he going to live?" I linked Smoke.
"Yes."
"What in the actual f**k was that s**t?" Asher asked, not moving from his spot.
"I don't know. Smoke took over and when he punctured his neck it was like I was in his head and I could talk to his wolf. He answered all of my questions."
"What are you going to do now?"
"I have no clue, get them some food and make sure no one needs medical care." I said and stormed out of the cell and outside. I needed to talk to my mom. I slowly made my way to their house and just let myself inside. I found my parents sitting on the couch together. The lights were off. The television was on, but the volume was muted. My mom sat up and turned it off. I sat in the chair opposite them and just stared at them. I watched as my dad reached over and turned the lamp on.
"What the hell is going on?" my mom asked.
"I don't know. I got my second wolf today and this happened." I said and flipped on the lap beside me and pointed to my eyes.
"I've never heard of eyes changing colors like that. What all happened?" she asked.
"I found my mate today during the attack. Smoke showed up, and we shifted from Ash to him and ran after her, but she took off. She is part of the pack that was attacking us."
"Do you know why they are attacking us?" my mom asked and apparently my father hadn't told her. That's not going to go over very well.
"I do, but that's not important now," I said, giving my dad a look, "my new wolf, he has some powers. I was talking with the leader of this pack and Smoke put his claws into his neck, and we were able to communicate directly with his wolf, and we asked questions, and it was like I was commanding him, but not, and he answered everything."
"I'm not surprised. I can do something similar, and it came on after I got my second wolf, but let's call your grandfather," she said, reaching into her pants pocket and pulled out her phone and called him, placing it on speakerphone.
He answered quickly, and I held my breath while she explained everything to him. As soon as she was done, she looked at me and I just nodded, confirming that she had covered everything.
"I'm not surprised. He was born to two alpha's and under the new kingdom when we had taken power back."
"Thanks Papi," I said, and he chuckled at the nickname all of us kids had given him.
My mom took it off speak phone and walked out of the room talking to him. "How do you wolves feel about your mate leaving?" my dad asked.
"Ash wants to find her and figure out her story and Smoke I'm afraid he will kill her."
"He isn't going to kill her. Scare her maybe, but you need to keep control of him at all times."
"I know, and I'm trying, but damn, they give me a headache, and he's powerful."
"You're stronger, remember that. Now I'm curious, what did you feel when you saw your mate?"
"Why?"
"Because getting your second wolf is so random, and I'm just trying to figure out what makes them appear. Your mother met me when she got her second wolf and your sister is married to her mate and still doesn't have her second wolf."
"Oh, goddess, tell him to shut up. We show up when we think it's time. Nothing more. I could have shown up when you turned eighteen, but Ash showed up, and you didn't need me yet, but when I saw our mate I wanted her, and so I made myself known, but she ran, and your dad is wrong about killing her. I could if I wanted to." he said and cut the link, not giving me the chance to reply. I looked at my dad, who had a shocked look on his face.
"Your eyes."
"I know, and I can't control it yet, but Smoke says to shut up and that our second wolf will show up when they want to. No rhyme or reason to it."
"I still think there is something," he said, and I could literally feel Smoke roll his eyes.
"I'm going to head home and get some sleep," I said, and got up and left their house and headed home.
I walked slowly to the pack house and slowly made my way up to my room. It was late, and I was surprised that my parents were still up. They probably knew I would come by. I made it to my room and opened the door to see Leah lying there naked.
"What are you doing?" I boomed out.
"You ditched me earlier, and so I waited for you." she said, and I ran my hands over my face and walked to the floor where her clothes were piled up. I picked them up off the floor and threw them at her.
"Leah, I didn't ditch you. We were attacked, I was dealing with that. Listen, I found my mate tonight. We can't do anything anymore," I said as gently as I could.
She sat up in bed and let the blankets drop, showing off her ample chest, and made a sad face, "how about one last time for goodbye?" she said, and I could see her eyes trace my body up and down.
"No, I've met my mate, I won't do that."
"Where is she?"
"Not here and I don't have to explain myself. Get dressed and leave. I'm going to shower and when I get out you better be gone," I said and walked to the bathroom. I didn't need a shower, but it gave me an excuse to leave my bedroom and let her leave without me watching her.
