Samantha

422 Words
Samantha lost count of the number of trees that they passed once again and tried to turn to the radio to distract herself. "What's with all the static?" Samantha complained as she tried a few different radio stations. "Why isn't it working?" "Well, it could be because we're far from any real civilization, and the fact that there aren't any telephone poles this far south, but my guess is the fact that your i***t brother forgot to put a tape in." Samantha growled softly. "He's not an idiot..." She began as Adam gave her a smirk. "He just has trouble with standardized tests." She tried not to smile. "That and common sense." "Hey, nowadays common sense isn't exactly all that common." "You got that right." Adam added, smiling a bit. Samantha pulled out her cellphone as Adam began to hum a song as he drove. "You've got a great voice, Adam." She complimented. "Why don't you sing more often?" "It's not that great. We've both heard better, I'm sure." "Mmmm, I don't know." She said coyly. "I love listening to your voice."  "Oh, do you now?" Adam grinned. "I do." Samantha arched an eyebrow. "Uh-huh. Now why do I not believe you?" "Because I'm a woman and my opinions don't matter?" "And why do you say that?" "I don't, society does." "Ah, yes. Society. The thing everyone blames, but is still a part of." he chuckled and let his hand fall to her knee. "Darling, your opinion always matters to me." Samantha smiled. "I know. That's why I'm dating you." Adam gave her knee a squeeze before focusing on the roads again. "So, how do you feel about Aria coming back?" Samantha asked, saving the shopping list in the notepad app on her phone as she glanced over to Adam. "I think it's great. I know she's a hard worker and I'm glad to see her again." Adam responded, keeping his eyes on the road. "I'm sure she's excited to come back and see that this Cursed town hasn't changed a bit." "That's true." Samantha scrolled through her notes until she found the bait recipe again. "We'll be making the bait, so we just need to pick up the ingredients." "That's fine." Adam continued on down the road. "What about you?" "What about me?" "How do you feel about Aria coming back?" There was a small silence between them before Samantha spoke up. "It will be good to see her again." She closed the app and locked her phone. "I've missed her."
