Lillian’s POV:
It'a as if the world slows down, agonizingly slow as she paces closer towards me.
Staring at her, sounds of horrific screams echo in my ears. I hold my hands on my ears attempting to drown out the sounds but it didn’t stop. Images of blood splatter everywhere, pleas of mercy is absolutely terrifying.
I couldn’t keep my eyes off of her as a smirk etched on her pink lips.
I can hear Nick’s voice, calling me back to reality but it was too faint. I couldn’t bring myself to focus on him. I couldn’t look away from her brown orbs, which never once waver from mine.
I can hear Daisy whimpering, meowing in submission. Swiftly, she passes me and I could hear her. “Hello, little kitty," she whispers faintly ensuring only I can hear and I drop on my knees, eyes finally removing from hers as it stares at the melting ice cream in front of us.
“Lulu?” Nick said placing a hand on my shoulder, shaking me lightly. Looking upward, I could finally focus on him. Instantly, I stood up and scanned my surroundings, attempting to find her once again but she wasn't there anymore.
Nick pull my body towards his direction. “Lulu, what’s wrong?” He said voice filled with concern.
“N-Nick s-s-scary. I want to g-go home,” I stutter, tears emerging from my eyes as my body shakes with fear.
“What’s scary?” He asks scanning the area.
What? Can’t he see her?
“M-Monster. S-So much b-blood,” I cry out. Nick holds me in tightly as he leads us back to the car. Gently, he wipes off the tears from my cheekbones with his thumb. Guards surround us, ensuring that nothing or no one will get us - particularly her.
Hearing a phone ringing, Nick look down on his phone and his face twist. “All of you take Lulu to the car,” he told the guards.
“Where are you going, Nick?” I ask grabbing his sleeve.
“I’ll be back soon, quick phone call, emergency,” he said giving me a kiss on the forehead.
We head back towards the car and I stop. My mind blur and I couldn’t focus on anything else except the sweet scent, Daisy is enchanted. “Luna, what is it?” One of the guards asks.
My legs twirl and I ran back towards the mall. “Luna! Where are you going?! We have to get back in the car!” Another guard yells but I couldn’t control my legs.
It went faster and faster chasing after the delicious smell. “Luna! Luna!” They scream towards me but the pleas faded, falling on deaf ears.
I stop, heart racing as sweat drench down my forehead, when I reach the food court. I can see her lips curving upward into a smirk. She ran her slim fingers through her short brown hair. Puckering her lips, she gestures at me to sit down. Walking towards her, I sat down across from her. She placed her chin on her hands and smile at me. “Hello little kitty,” she said smoothly batting her eyes.
“W-Who are y-you?” I manage to whimper out.
She narrows her lids. "How long are you going to play this game?”
I flinch slightly and shake my head. “I d-don’t understand.”
She continues staring, analyzing me. “You don’t remember me?” she whispers and I shake my head again. A short amused chuckle escapes her throat. “I never thought you would reincarnate as the last werecat and Alpha Nickolas's mate,” she said taking a sip of her pink smoothie. “And I’m surprised you accept being his mate so easily. Then again, you lost all your memories so -” she shrugs licking the drink from her lips.
“Memories? What memories?” I ask.
She starts laughing wiping the emerging tears. “I’m not going to tell you. I hate you,” she sang.
“Why? We don’t even know each other,” I said.
“Oh, that’s where you’re absolutely wrong. We know each other pretty well. You hate me and I hate you,” She points a finger at herself than towards me.
“I don’t understand. Why do you hate me though?” I'm utterly confused, I never met her before, but why does it feels like I want to punch her pretty face.
“Because you - nevermind. I just do.”
“But - ” I stop not knowing what to say and she raises a brow.
She sat there, folding her arms as she tilts her head. I can hear the people in the background, chatting, laughing, yelling as they pass by us. “How about a deal?”
“W-What deal?”
“I’ll help you get your memories back with a condition,” she whispers.
“What condition?” I ask.
“Vow your loyalty to me,” she said with a devious smile.
“I-I don’t understand,” I stutter out.
She licks off the pink smoothie on the side of her lips. “I want your soul. Not just yours, but your children too,” her sinful voice echoes in my mind like the devil whispers.
“N-no I d-don’t -”
“I may not know why werecats are extinct, but you may,” she said cutting me off.
She leans in closer towards me, cupping her hands together. “Don’t you want to know the reason for your species extinction, my Queen?”
I sat there stunned by her words. She grabs her red purse, digging inside, after some time, she pulls out a piece of paper and pen. Clicking on the pen, she presses it on the blank paper. I continue staring at her as she writes something on it, folding it in perfect halves and slide it to me. Grabbing her purse, smoothie, and shopping bags, she stands up. “Call me when you’re ready to swear your loyalty,” she said elegantly moving a single foot behind the other and bowing down slightly.
Turning her feet, she walks away, halting she turns back towards me, eyes flickering pure black. “Let’s keep this conversation between us, shall we? You understand what I’m saying, don’t you Daisy," she warn before disappearing in the crowd.
‘How did she know my name?’ Daisy ask.
‘I don’t know.’
I sat there, staring at the location where she left, trying to understand what’s going on. Daisy is confused, not understanding a single word. We were drowning in complete fear.
“Lulu!” I hear a faint voice shouted with a mixture of frustration and anger.
“Luna! Luna!” More screams, but this time it was filled with agitation.
Turning my head, I saw Nick and the guards dashing towards me. “Lulu! What the f**k!” Nick growls menacingly causing the whole mall to quiet down, only faint sound of whispers surround us.
My stomach twists into a knot, heart skipping many beats as I looked at Nick’s face filled with sweats. His flickering eyes were like a knife in my ribs, sharp point digging into me. The unmoving gaze was accompanied by slow breathing like he's fighting something back loosing. I can only see one emotion - raw anger against my disobedience.
“I told you to f*****g stay with the guards and you f*****g didn’t listen to me!” He shouts banging his fist on the table, cracking the hard surface. Grabbing my wrist, he pulls me up, bruising it. I whimper lightly.
The mall is in complete hush, only the cries of babies were heard along with a mother shuffling feet, dashing out.
Tears burst out of my eyes and I can see his rigid features soften. Over the years we have been together, I had seen Nick scorn at many of his pack members, but this is the first time he screams at me using such foul language.
My hands balled in a tiny fist, running the water in my eyes. “I’m s-so s-s-sorry N-Nick,” I cry out, broken voice echoing throughout the hush mall.
Nick glance at the guards, their eyes diverted roaming around the mall. He releases my red wrist, cupping my face. “Shhh it’s okay Lulu. I’m sorry, please stop crying,” he said in a low soft tone. I throw my arms around his neck and he lifts me up, heading out of the building. He continues whispering low apologies in my ears.
Sitting in the car, I couldn’t help but continue crying in Nick’s lap as one of the guards drove us back. They would peek in the rearview mirror, barely breathing through their nose. He carries me into the Pack House, my hands wiping off the tears in my eyes.
The front door open and Kim drops the plate in her hands. “What happens?” she yells rushing towards us.
Nick passes her and heads towards the couch, taking a seat on the couch as he continues rubbing my back.
“Uhhhh-” Nick said averting Kim’s glare.
Kim steps back, placing a single hand over her mouth. “You cursed at her?” she shouts.
“I-I couldn’t help it! I was angry!” He said defensively.
“It’s not N-Nick f-fault,” I stutter out.
“Then who fault is it?” Kim asks taking a seat beside me as she hands me a tissue.
I blow my nose. “M-M-Monster. S-so scary. B-blood everywhere” I whimper out.
“Lillian honey, calm down,” Kim said in her soothing voice patting a clean tissue on my cheeks.
Looking up, Joey sat behind Kim looking at me with concern. Tyler sat across the couch and stare at Nick as if they are having a mental conversation. After a few moments, I calm down, breathing slightly shaken. “Want to talk about it?” Kim asks, glancing at Nick who shrugs.
“Nick you didn’t see her?” I question him and he shakes his head. “She was cover in blood,” I said and he continues shaking his head.
“Do you remember how she looks like?” Nick ask me.
I bit my lips as I scan the room deciding whether or not I should tell them about her. Of course, I remember how she looks.
′Should we tell them?′ I ask Daisy.
She's quiet, trying to figure out what’s next step. ‘Your call’ she replies.
I bit my lips as her words rattle in my brain. “Let’s keep this conversation between us, shall we? You understand what I’m saying, don’t you Daisy.”
I shake my head. “I don’t remember,” the lies flow out.
My eyes met with Nick’s concern ones, a flash of unidentifiable emotion submerge quickly, but vanish.
Guilt boil in my stomach, knowing that I lied for the first time to Nick since my change.
“Are you sure you don’t remember anything” Nick responds in a flat tone, eyes burning into mine.
I start playing with my fingernails, avoiding his stares. “She had a very scary aura around her,” I mumble.
He continues staring at me, not saying a single word.
“She knows I’m a werecat,” I said trying to break the rising tension as well as decreasing the beating inside my heart.
“What? How is that possible? We poured wolf potion all over you!” Kim shouts.
“That damn witch owes us 300,” Joey mutters.
“She said Hello Little Kitty," I said attempting to imitate her voice.
“But she didn’t do anything?” Tyler ask.
Of course, she did. She tried to make a deal with me. For some reason, she wants my loyalty.
“Do you remember anything else?” Nick questions raising a brow.
"Let’s keep this conversation between us, shall we?"
My trembling hands clutched tightly on the sheet on paper inside my pocket.
"Call me when you are ready to vow your loyalty."
“No,” I whisper staring at my shoes.
After some time, Nick takes me back to our room. I change out of the outfit I'm wearing, cautiously placing the jacket with the sheet of paper inside down. Nick lead me towards our bed and tuck me in. “Call me if you need anything okay?” He whispers and I nod. Kissing my forehead, he walks out the door. Hearing his footstep fading, I sat up and head towards my clothes, pulling out the piece of paper.
‘Maybe we should’ve told Nick,’ I said regretting the fact that we lied to him.
‘We can't,’ Daisy replies.
‘Why can’t we?’
‘Do you remember the look in her eyes?’
Of course, I remember, how can I forget her brown eyes. It was like a deep abyss, dark and empty, holding no room for betrayal.
‘Should we call her?’ I ask looking at the sheet of paper.
I can hear Daisy exhaling a deep breath of frustration. ‘We need to investigate about the extinction of werecats’.
Folding the paper, I walk towards the closet, placing it in my undergarments. Nick never goes there, I hope.
I walk back into the bedroom, eyes roaming towards the crescent moon, feet shuffling towards it. Lifting two hands, I open the window, inhaling the fresh forest scent to calm myself down.
The nighttime breeze was cooling, relaxing. Stars hung beautifully in the sky, next to the dazzling crescent moon. Shutting my eyes, an uncomfortable feeling surfaces. I couldn’t hear any crickets chirping or birds singing.
Not a single sound.
It's completely silent, dead.
“I suggest you close the window,” a deep voice said.
My neck snaps behind me to see a man behind me, eyes widen, a scream emerges from my throat.
“I wouldn’t scream if I were you,” he said in a deadly tone, hands holding a knife strap on his waist.
“Who are you?”
"Marvin DuSang, a pleasure to meet you my Queen," he places an arm behind his back, palm on his heart and bows down with pure gracefulness.
Scanning him, he had striking grey eyes with messy dark blonde hair, almost a shade of brown. Freckles cover his face, a smirk crossed his pale lips.
“I’m not a Queen,” I reply quite confused why he would call me that similar to the girl from the mall earlier.
He paces towards me, slowly, placing a hand on my cheek. “Oh my Queen, how long are you going to play the fool,” he whispers.
I remove his hand from my face, feeling quite disgusted by his touch. “I don’t und-”
“They are coming to get you soon,” he said, grey eyes glowing under the brilliant moon.
“W-Who?”
He turns his back towards me, placing his arms behind him as he marched around the room the room, examining it. Finally, his eyes met mine, lips curving into a sly smirk. “That’s for you to remember my beautiful Queen.”
He glances down at his old black wristwatch. “It’s time for me to go, but I’ll be back,” he said heading towards the open window beside me.
Lifting a leg he stops, turning his head towards me. “Don’t trust her,” he said in a deep menacing voice.
“Who?”
I can see his eyes narrowing, face twisting into clear bitterness. “The girl you met at the mall. Do not trust her. Do not vow your loyalty to her.”
“How can I trust you?” I ask.
He releases a low chuckle, licking his dry lips. ”You can’t,” he replied before jumping out the window. Looking out, he was gone as if he disappeared in thin air.
‘Daisy.’
I can hear her growling in an ominous tone. ‘Trust no one.’
