Healing

[Samara] “Samara?” I frowned as I willed whoever it was that was trying to wake me up to go away. I groaned as I rolled onto my side, away from that person. “Samara, we need to check your vitals,” “Huh?” I rolled onto my back and slowly opened my eyes. “For f***s sake,” I muttered as I stared up at the white ceiling. “So, it wasn’t just a bad dream,” “No, I’m afraid not,” another voice said, and I looked down to see Evan and the doctor. “Right, just a quick vital check,” the doctor said, and I sighed as I sat up. “How are you feeling?” he then asked, and I opened my mouth to tell him I felt fine, but I stopped myself. I did feel fine…how was that possible? “Um…” I glanced over at Evan, who had a smug look on his face. “I feel fine,” “Really?” Evan asked and I rolled my eyes. “I’m not surprised,” “Enough of that, Alpha,” the doctor remarked, and I turned my attention to him as he listened to my breathing through his stethoscope thingy. Evan chuckled but he didn’t say another word as he dragged the stool closer and sat down. “Right, I’ll send Nurse Michelle in to check on your wounds,” I was surprised when Evan remained seated when the doctor left. Nurse Michelle came in soon after and Evan still remained seated. Surely, he didn’t expect me to get naked in front of him. “Well then, let’s have a look, shall we?” Michelle questioned as she suddenly pulled a curtain around the bed which gave us privacy. How had I not noticed the curtain thing before? She folded the blanket down until I was able to swing my legs off the side of the bed. I didn’t want to say anything, so I remained quiet. Michelle easily and quickly lifted the nightdress, which she asked me to hold up. “Ok, it looks as though your wounds are almost fully healed,” “What?” I gasped as I looked down and the first thing, I noticed was that the bruises and scratches I had seen earlier appeared lighter and…almost fully healed. “Yes, very good. I’ll just replace the bandage so that I can put on some more ointment,” she explained as she carefully removed three bandages. I noticed a sticky substance, but my eyes were glued to the blood. My blood and I shivered. “Cold?” she asked, but I quickly shook my head. She then headed out and I was almost afraid that Evan would come into the little bubble Michelle had created, but he didn’t. She returned and within minutes she had cleaned me up and spread on some type of cooling ointment before she put on new transparent bandages. “All good now,” she said as she helped me back into bed. I made sure I was covered up before I nodded at her once again. The curtain was pulled back, and Evan was still sitting there. Michelle left us alone and I groaned loudly. “Do you think that is natural?” Evan questioned me and I knew he was referring to my wounds. It wasn’t natural, but now I was wondering if I had taken enough notice before. Maybe it hadn’t looked as bad as I had thought. I remained silent as I stared at my hands. “Listen…Samara, I know that this is a lot for you right now…but I promise you that once you are fully healed, I’ll get to actually show you that I’m not some crazed man,” “How…I mean…what?” I shook my head as I finally made eye contact with him. “This can't be real. This isn’t real,” “It is real. Just because you don’t understand it, doesn’t mean it isn’t real,” he said, and I frowned. “No, it’s not that I don’t understand it…it’s that…this is all fantasy, right? Things that people have made up…people that have written stories or books or whatever…people that have used their imagination to create movies or TV shows…this isn’t real,” I argued. “It isn’t made up. It is very much real and those people that have written stories or created movies…they are simply taking parts of the truth to create something…creative,” “Right,” I nodded in agreement even though I was still trying to wrap my head around all of this. It didn’t feel real. “Samara, the world of supernatural beings has been around long before the human race,” he said, and I stared at him. He no longer looked like a crazy man, but I wasn’t going to just believe anything that came out of his mouth. He could still be nuts. “Gods, angels, demons, all sorts of different shifters…all of that is real,” “I mean…yeah…but…wolves? Like werewolves?” “No, not like werewolves…I mean, that isn’t technically or even authentically correct. Shifters are human beings that can shift…that can transform into something else. We are wolf shifters,” “And what type of shifters do you get?” I asked curiously. “Bears, dragons, bats, lions…the list is almost endless, Samara,” “How is this real? I mean, don’t you think people would have exposed the truth? One way or another?” I questioned as I continued to watch him. “We didn’t always hide, Samara,” he whispered sadly. “We used to live freely and openly with the humans…it wasn’t perfect, not by any means, but they knew about us,” “What happened?” “What do you think happened?” he shot back, but I noticed he wasn’t angry or annoyed. He was sad, but not quite upset. He was talking about his history, and I was suddenly very interested. I may not truly believe everything he said, but I was still curious. “Human beings are the type of creatures that envy those that have…special abilities. We are supernatural creatures, each with different abilities. Some of us can fly, some of us can run at super speed, and we have the ability to heal…” he glanced downward, and I frowned. Was it possible that what he was saying was actually true? “Would you…would you tell me more…while I’m healing?” I asked, almost shyly, and Evan smiled brightly. “Of course, I will,”
