[Samara]
“Eat, Samara. You will need to regain your strength as soon as possible,” Evan remarked as he dragged over a stool I hadn’t noticed before. I eyed the food in front of me, but the smell alone had my mouth watering. I was hungry and even I had to admit that the burger looked good. I carefully picked up the burger and took a small bite. It was good, nice, and juicy with some type of sweet barbeque sauce.
“Go on then,” I said to Evan before I started to eat the meal before me.
“Right, so…you were attacked by a shifter,” Evan explained, and I frowned as I chewed thoughtfully. Shifter? What did he mean by that? “When I say a shifter, I am referring to a supernatural creature that can shift forms from human to wolf,” I dropped the burger and stared at Evan in horrified surprise. Surely, he wasn’t serious. Was he?
“Is this some type of sick joke? Because it isn’t funny,”
“No, this isn’t a joke. This is real life and I know you think I am probably crazy or something,”
“Or something,” I muttered before I once again bit into the burger.
“But you’ll soon believe everything that I am about to tell you,” he went on, but I wasn’t entirely sure that I was going to believe anything this guy had to say. Clearly, he had lost his marbles or something. “The shifter that attacked you…we believe that it had been done by accident. You see, this shifter stole something from us, and we were chasing after him. I think that he must have been in the process of shifting into his wolf form when he…attacked you,”
“Ahuh,” I wasn’t paying that much attention at this point. The deliciously crunchy yet soft fries had most of my attention as they were just that good.
“We found you and…well, your wounds were very deep,” Evan continued, and I nodded as I shoved another few fries into my mouth. “We brought you here,”
“And where is here exactly?” I asked between bites.
“Here is our territory. Our pack’s territory,” he said, and I nodded. “The Moonlit Pack,” he added, and I was tempted to roll my eyes. This guy needed some serious help. I had a feeling he had probably escaped from his room somewhere and now I had fallen prey to his ridiculous stories. However, I decided to humor the guy.
“Ok…so like a wolf’s pack?” I asked before I took a sip of the juice.
“Correct, and the reason we brought you here is because…well, at first we were sure if you would have been infected – so to say – but it has been confirmed,”
“What has been confirmed? Am I infected by that wolf shifter dude?” I questioned. This guy was far off his rocker.
“Yes, unfortunately, you have been…infected…” he said sadly, and I frowned as I watched him. He looked tense and worried, which only made him seem even crazier than before.
“Well…what happens to me now? Do I get to turn into a wolf?” I asked excitedly. I was playing along with this guy and all I hoped, actually hoped for, was that someone would come to my rescue.
“I have a feeling that you don’t quite believe me, but yes, you can now turn into a wolf,” he said as he avoided eye contact, and I sighed as I pushed the trolley table thingy away. I had eaten more than enough, and I was suddenly no longer hungry. Not only that, but I didn’t feel like entertaining this guy anymore. What I actually wanted was to go home.
“Am I free to go?” I questioned and when he shook his head, I knew that this wasn’t funny anymore. “Ok, no…seriously…can I go home?”
“Not yet, unfortunately,” he replied. “Once you have fully healed, I’d like to go through some basic training with you…and ultimately, I would like for you to join my pack,” I smirked as I glanced away from him. “Hopefully you’ll find your place here…with us,” he couldn’t be serious. None of this could be real.
“Ok…” I leaned back a bit as I continued to watch him. This guy was taking things way too far and, at this point, he was starting to get on my nerves. “Well, for now, I think I would like to take a nap,” I said. I would say just about anything to get this guy out of my room.
“Of course, I am sure this is a lot to process, but before I leave,” he said as he stood up. “May I suggest you take a good look at yourself…?” I nodded and he finally left the room. I lay there as I watched the door, so when it suddenly reopened, I squealed in surprise.
“My apologies,” the nurse said as she hurried into the room. She didn’t say anything else as she quickly cleaned up the room and took out the tray. This time, when the door closed behind her, it didn’t open again. I carefully lifted the blanket and stared at myself. I didn’t see anything at first, but as I looked closer, I noticed a few scratches and bruises on my arms and legs. However, as I pulled the nightdress open my eyes went wide in horror. My wounds had me closed with some sort of transparent plaster and that meant I could see the deep gashes that were in my side and stomach. I gasped as I carefully ran my finger over the wounds. It was painful, but surprisingly not all that painful. I frowned as I considered the crazy guy’s words. I may not have been attacked by some supernatural wolf creature, but I had been attacked. I quickly covered myself back up before I closed my eyes. This was just some crazy dream and when I woke up, Ben, Heather, and Wesley would laugh at me. I smiled at that thought before my mind slowly drifted and I fell asleep.
