-Ezekiel POV-
Abigail smiles. "Hey uncle Z" She puts a hand on her hip.
"Uncle?" Wolf asks looking just as confused as Aurora does.
Both Wolf and Aurora relax. Seeing how I relax, makes them know that she is not an enemy.
"What are you doing here? Do your parents know?” I ask but then I whisper as I feel dread. "They are going to kill me."
She giggles. "Uncle Marco sent me and no, my parents don't know."
I take a deep breath and pinch the bridge of my nose.
"So! Who is going to fill me in on the stupidity that you were all going to do?" She asks.
"This is your... niece?" Wolf asks sounding very confused.
"In a way." I say.
"In what way?" Wolf asks.
"In the way that I have known her since she was a child and she took to calling me uncle."
Abigail holds a finger up. "Not just uncle, uncle Z." She corrects me. She then looks at Wolf. She leans in a bit and narrows her eyes at him.
"Who are you?"
Wolf suddenly looks nervous and his cheeks flush.
I internally sigh because this has just gotten harder.
"Wolf." He says.
"Wolf? I know you're a wolf but what is your name?" She asks.
I scuff.
"Wolf woman! Wolf!" He shouts.
"Don't you yell at me!" She shouts back.
They both now growl at each other.
I internally sigh again. (Yep, two dominant wolves. Just great.)
“What kind of name is that anyway!?” Abigail asks.
“A name! How should I know? What kind of name is Abigail.” Wolf mocks.
“A normal name. You are named after what you are, a wolf.”
“So?” He asks.
“Bla!” She crosses her arms and looks away, irritated.
“Bla right back to you!” Wolf says and turns the opposite way from her but she gives him a side glance and I swear that for a moment, I can see the corner of her mouth twist in to a smile.
I give a long sigh. I then look at Aurora who has been quietly staring.
"Abigail, this is Aurora." I say.
Abigail's demeanor quickly changes. She ignores Wolf and gives Aurora a big smile.
"Hi. Marco told me what happened. It's nice to meet you."
Aurora smiles. "It is nice to meet you as well."
"So why are you here exactly?" Wolf asks crossing his arms and looking like a brat.
"Because you two dumb dumbs were all over the news. Of course, people don't know it was you two but you really made a ruckus."
She looks at Aurora and gives her a sweet smile. “Not you. You had no choice but to follow these two idiots.”
"I am not a... dumb dumb! And that doesn't explain why you are here!" Wolf shouts.
Abigail narrows her eyes at Wolf. "You keep shouting at me and I promise you I won't be responsible for what happens next."
Now it's Aurora and me who watch them, waiting to see what happens.
Wolf leans in trying to intimidate her. "Little girl, out here you are playing with the big wolves, so empty promises mean noth-" He doesn't get to finish.
He falls on his knees holding his crotch and grunting after Abigail kneed him on the balls.
Aurora gasps and I double over laughing.
"I never make empty promises. Learned that from my aunty." Abigail says looking smug and standing over a groaning Wolf.
"Is he... okay?" Aurora asks.
I nod wiping the tears in my eyes.
After a few deep breaths, Wolf starts to wobbly get up. His face is red and I can even see a few drops of sweat.
I cross my arms and shake my head at him. "This girl shares DNA with Luna May, a woman I would never dare cross. If I were you, I would be smarter not to vex her."
"Luna... May? As in Alpha Colton and Luna May?” He asks with wide eyes.
I nod.
“And now you tell me this s**t!" Wolf growls at me but it has a hint of a squeal that almost makes me laugh again.
"Anyways... Marco sent me because you are short of one person..." Abigail says but she then mumbles. "...the smart one apparently."
I see Wolf about to argue that but then he takes a step back and stays quiet.
"So, what kind of stupid plan did you guys have?" She asks.
"We didn't have a plan." Aurora says, outing us.
Abigail sighs. "Boys are idiots."
Aurora giggles and I love it. Seriously, I am enchanted, staring at her.
"Luckily for you all, I came with a plan but we should leave before someone finds us here."
"Leave?" Wolf asks.
"Yes, leave. There is a party in two days from now and that is when we'll put the plan in motion."
"Alright." I say.
We all head back to the car and see a black Yamaha bike next to our car.
Wolf and I quickly get into a fighting stance while Abigail pass by us and mumbles "Dumb dumb's"
She starts to put the helmet on as she looks at us like we are idiots.
We relax now knowing it is her bike.
I go into the car with Aurora but Wolf stays back looking at Abigail with a raised eyebrow as if he was amused.
"The big moron likes her but he will never admit it." I say once we are inside the car.
Aurora giggles again and I almost want to jump her and kiss her. I already know I am smitten with her and I can't wait till I get her alone.
I lick my bottom lip as I try to contain myself.
Wolf finally comes in. Abigail starts her bike and motions us to follow her.
"So... who is she exactly?" Wolf asks.
"Abigail Saltsman. She is Luna May's niece... real niece and like a daughter to her. So that means, that you are tasked with protecting her no matter what."
"ME?! Why me?!"
"Because... Aurora's mine... I mean I am protecting Aurora so you need to protect Abigail though... I'm sure she can take care of herself."
"Yea... noticed." He mumbles.
After a few minutes, I am mortified at where we end up at.
A stingy nasty looking motel.
My eyes scan the room and I am not happy.
"What in the world Abigail?"
I can see her holding a laugh and I know she did it on purpose.
"Money is tight." She says almost laughing.
"No, it's not." I say.
She shrugs her shoulders.
I am a man of comfort and I tend to like a luxurious style. I can tolerate one of those generic hotels but this... this is pushing it. This does not bode well with me.
The room is a green dingy color and it is way outdated. The smell of smoke is strong and the carpet has stains, among other things. There are two large beds and the color of the sheets is the same color as the green walls. And to top it off, we can hear people arguing in the room next to us.
Wolf is already on his phone ordering food. The man only thinks with his stomach.
Aurora is walking around, looking at everything. She goes to the bed and is about to sit on it but I grab her by the arm.
"No, don't" I say.
"Oh... why?"
"Because... it's probably dirty."
"Don't be so dramatic uncle Z." Abigail says.
I narrow my eyes at her. "I have lived for centuries and I am a completely healthy vampire. If I end up catching something here, I will hold it over your head for the rest of your life."
"Vampires can't catch human diseases." She says.
"Yea but looking at this room makes me think otherwise."
Abigail finally starts laughing.
"So, this is a joke, right?" I ask not hiding the hope in my tone.
She shakes her head. "Nope, we are staying here but anyway, let's get down to business."
I groan. I'll probably sleep standing up. (Maybe those vampires in movies that carry coffins everywhere they go are on to something.)
"Alright, so, I have here the invitations to the party. Marco got them. They are fake but should work. Now, we need formal attire or they won't let us in. I brought my own, but you two look like you are living out of your car and I know she doesn't have a dress. So that means that tomorrow, we go shopping."
Neither Wolf nor I fail to notice how happy she seems at the whole shopping thing.
Wolf gives a grunt out of annoyance but gives his attention back to his phone. "With cheese."
Aurora suddenly jerks and gives a low grunt.
"Is it starting?" I quickly ask.
She nods and holds her stomach.
I quickly go back to the car and get the morphine and a few blankets.
I put one of the blankets over the bed and help Aurora lie on it.
"How is the mark now?" I ask her as I prepare the syringe.
"It is the same. It hasn’t changed."
Abigail stands next to the bed opposite of mine. "So, this book we are after will help with this?" She asks.
"We do not really know." Aurora says.
“It is something that the enemy is after as well and I would prefer for it to be in our hands but we hope there is something in it that will help with this.” I say.
I clean Aurora's elbow pit with an alcohol pad.
"And if there is an answer somewhere, it has to be there." Aurora says.
I draw the right dosage of morphine for Aurora into a needle and then mix it with sodium chloride.
"Maybe you could reverse this eternal damnation spell thing." Wolf says now having finished with his call. He sits on the other bed watching us.
"Maybe." She says as her eyes avert to mine but I just focus on what I am doing.
I take a butterfly needle —or in medical terms a winged infusion set—out and untangle it.
"What is that?" Aurora asks.
"This is a needle. It is how some medications are administered now."
"Does it... is it going inside me?" She asks with a somber expression and I chuckle.
"Yes. And yes, this is going to hurt a little but I promise you, you'll be fine."
She is already wincing.
"How do you know what you are doing?" Abigail asks me.
I give her a side glance. "Because... I'm a doctor."
Abigail snorts. "Yeah sure, so am I."
I stare at her without an ounce of hesitation or humor.
"... Bullshit! No you're not." Wolf says.
"Do you want to bet on that?" I ask.
I look up at Aurora. "Take a deep breath."
She takes a deep breath and I stick the needle in. She hisses but doesn't move. I see blood return so I know it is in the right place. I use a band-aid to hold the needle in place because it is the only thing I have right now and then I start to slowly administer the medication.
This will take from three to five minutes because this kind of medication can't be quickly given.
"You got to be shiting me. You're really a doctor?" Wolf asks.
Abigail also looks surprised.
"Yea, though I do not have a license and I don't practice medicine anymore but I keep myself current with the new medical advances, I mean, what else is an eternal being supposed to do?"
Both Wolf and Abigail look at me as if I was an alien and I can't blame them, despite spending so much time with them, they don't really know me or my past.
I look up at Aurora. "How are you feeling princess?"
I am surprised when she has a big smile on her face. "You are pretty amazing." She says.
Never in my life has anyone ever made me flustered.
I look down with my eyes wide. My face feels like it's burning.
I consider myself a suave man and things like this don’t tend to faze me, so this is new to me.
I give a glance towards Wolf and the fucker has a smirk on his face.
(Damnit!)
