Chapter 4The Search Continues James Sage stayed home for the next two days, just long enough to rest and get new provisions. He then set out down the New River as it flowed north. He knew that the Ohio tribes used to come this far south. He was still certain it wasn’t an Indian that had taken Caty, but she may have been sold to them. Four days out he crossed the New River using the Ingles Ferry and, on the other side, stopped at the Ingles Necessary. Mary Draper Ingles, who forty years before had been taken by Shawnees, ran the small rest stop. He had often heard the story of this brave woman, but was excited to hear it from her own lips.
