"You don't know who is important to you until you actually lose them." ~ Mahatma Gandhi Chapter Six Twins? How the hell was she supposed to raise twins all alone? Davina thought she could possibly raise one baby on her own and would only seek help when she needed it but now there were two babies that she had to think of meaning double the amount of stress she'll be feeling when she starts screwing up and becoming a horrible mother. God, maybe she should look into adoption, maybe then her babies could grow up and live a life that wasn't f****d up and they could have two parents rather than just one. At least they could have a better childhood than what Davina could offer. "Davina, are you okay? You haven't said anything since we left the doctors appointment." Maria said concern written all over her face as she placed a hand on Davina's shoulder. Davina doesn't say anything and just continues on staring straight ahead. What was she supposed to say? That she was excited and thrilled? She just found out she was going to be raising two kids alone after she just barely came to terms on raising one when she only thought there was one but add another one to the mix and now she's even more scared than what she was when she found out about the first one. "Is it about the twins? You know you won't have to go through this alone, you have me, Alice, and even your parents." Maria reassured squeezing her shoulder but Davina doesn't budge as she continues staring blankly at the sky. The two were currently sitting out on Maria's patio watching as her younger siblings all ran around the backyard playing some weird game about aliens and cowboys. After the doctors appointment Alice had to go meet up with her parents and talk about what they were going to do for their annual family reunion they had and Davina didn't feel like being alone or going home afraid that she would drive herself mad so she decided to help Maria keep an eye on her siblings while her parents went to pick up her cousin who was moving here from Spain but if Davina was being honest it wasn't helping her keep her mind off things because as soon as Davina looked at Maria's twelve-year-old twin brothers she broke down crying and hasn't left the lawn chair since. "What if I'm not a good mother to them?" Davina finally spoke after what seemed like forever, a frown settled on her face. Maria gave her a sad look. "Oh honey, you're going to be an amazing mother to them. You are the most kindhearted and beautiful person I have ever met Davina those babies are lucky to have you as a mother." Davina gave her a sad smile, tears welding in her eyes blurring her vision. "What if they hate and blame me for Elio? I can't be-" "Davina, breathe." Maria said grabbing the girls hands looking her in the eye. "You need to stop stressing yourself over this it isn't healthy for you or the babies. I'm not saying you need to stop mourning or anything but let's not stress too much okay? You'll be fine you have all the love and support you and those babies need okay? Don't waste your stress and worry over some lousy guy who couldn't make up his damn mind." Davina took a deep breath nodding her head as her brain processed what she was just told . Maria was right, she needed to stop stressing and worrying herself because it wasn't good for her babies or for her health. Yeah the thought of having twins scared the s**t out of her especially since she'll be raising them on her own but she wouldn't be fully alone. She had her two best friends who she knows will be there every step of the way lending an offering hand when needed and her parents would do the same. Hell, they even invited Davina to move back in with them so she could help her when times got tough something that not many people would get offered if they were in her shoes. Davina need to stop burying herself in all these what if's and focus on preparing to be a mother and accepting the fact that she wasn't really alone and that she had love and support from people who mean the most. Just because she lost the man she loves doesn't mean she had to lose everything else. Instead she was going to use this as a healing process and move on from the past and focus on what mattered the most which was her future. "You're right, I'm sorry. How are you? I feel like we've just have been focusing on me and I feel terrible that I haven't thought about how you're feeling." Maria rolled her eyes but smiled nonetheless. "Don't feel terrible you've gone through something I could never imagine but to answer your question I'm good I'm just waiting for my prince and shining armor to come and sweep me off my feet." She sighed leaning back into the chair spreading her tan legs out in front of her. "Still haven't heard anything from Mateo?" Davina asked loving her sunglasses down to cover her eyes following Maria's lead and settling into the same position as her. Maria groans covering her eyes with her left arm. "No, and it's been two freaking weeks! You'd think after showing a guy you don't have a gag reflex they'd want to stay!" Davina held back a laugh as she watched Maria pout about the latest boy she met when she went to visit her family in Spain it was quite funny to Davina because Maria never had this problem back here in the states but it was completely the opposite there. Maria thought it was because she was lacking the looks but Maria was actually quite a beautiful girl. She had long beautiful brown hair and the body that every woman killed for with curves in all the right places and a flat stomach, plus she was super sweet and hot, she just overthinks too much and worries too much and no matter who feels her that she's beautiful she thinks the opposite. "Didn't you say he moan liked a whale?" Davina asked trying to change her mind from the guy she was mopping about because from the pictures that she saw of him he was not cute at all and she could definitely do so much better. "Yeah, but he's so hot and he knows how to use his tongue and don't get me started on his d**k game." Maria moaned throwing her head back as she fanned herself with her right hand. Davina rolled her eyes and looked over towards the pool that the kids were swimming in with the Maria's baby cousins sleeping soundly in the playpen next to the two girls. "Why don't you text him first? Maybe he's waiting for you to make the move." Maria sighed shaking her head removing her arm from her eyes turning her head so she was looking at Davina. "I don't think so, he made it pretty clear that I was just a summer fling." Davina shook her head knowing damn well that Maria was just in the slumps in the moment but when she gets enough waiting for him to text her she'll do it first she always ends up doing it when this happened which was only when she went to Italy or Spain every summer but it didn't last long, she'd talk to him again and they'd try to do long distance but than Maria will get bored because she'd rather be close with her significant other and goes back to the males here. "Maybe your cousin will know something," Davina suggested making Maria scoff in response. "Highly doubt that. Stefan likes to keep away from the males I bring over, he's more of the protective type and hates them regardless and if he knew that Miguel was ghosting me he'd kill him." Maria said shaking her head as she sat up from her laying position stretching her arms above her head. "What's Stefan like?" Davina asked taking a sip out of the strawberry lemonade Maria's mother made last night for dinner. "Depends, if you ask our grandparents he's the devils child but they still love him. But if you ask me he's my older brother, he's always been there for me and I know he always will be. He's super sweet and is majorly protective but he has a good heart." Davina nodded her head. Even though Davina and Maria have been friends since middle school, Davina had never met Maria's extended family other than her grandparents who would come down every two years to visit. She has seen older pictures of her cousins and aunts but not any recent ones. She remembered Maria always talking about Stefan and how he was like the older brother she never had. From what Davina remembered from a picture Maria showed her of Stefan their freshman year, he was tall with a scrawny body and wore glasses and braces. Davina was excited to finally meet Stefan, she had heard so much about him from Maria and she was glad that Maria had someone in her family that she was close with since most of them were young but the thing about Stefan that made him and Maria get along so well was the fact that they were related on both sides of the family which to Davina was sort of cool. Stefan's mom was Maria's mother's sister and his dad was Maria's dad's brother, the mothers being from Spain and the fathers being from Italy. "Is he going to be here just for school or what's his plan, do you know?" Maria shook her head. "I have no clue, all I know is that he wants to move here and study medicine." Davina nodded her head her fingers twiddling around with each other. It was just a matter of minutes before Maria's parents walked through the door with Stefan but Davina help but feel a little bit embarrassed. Normally when Davina was meeting someone new she would make herself look presentable so she could make a good impression and not have everyone thinking she was this lazy person who didn't care about her appearances except this time Davina had no idea about Stefan coming to the states and wasn't expecting to meet him so soon. Davina decided that she would just wear a simple hoodie and a pair of leggings with her ugh boots and her messy hair thrown in a bun, of course she didn't wear this to her doctors appointment but she began feeling uncomfortable with the clothes she chose to wear and decided to change right before heading over to Maria's which now she wished she never did. From the things that Maria has told Davina about Stefan he doesn't seem like the one who would judge her by the type of clothes she was wearing, but she was Maria's first friend that's from the states that he's meeting she didn't want Maria to be embarrassed to call Davina her friend especially if she was pregnant and the father didn't want anything to do with her or their children. Maria wasn't that kind of person and Davina feels a little guilty even feeling this way, but her insecurities get the best of her and take a mental toll on her. "Davina, are you okay? You look a little pale love." Maria said breaking Davina out of thought, concern laced on her face. "What? Oh, um yeah just got a wave of sickness." She lied waving her off. Maria doesn't look convinced but doesn't push it, instead she turns her head towards the back garage a huge grin making its way onto her face. "Stefan!" She screams jumping up from her chair sprinting in that direction. Davina watched as Maria nearly trips and falls on her way to her cousin but caught herself before she could fall into the pool. Maria threw her arms around a tall figure that Davina couldn't really see due to her poor vision and the long distance they stood was far from where she currently sat. Next to follow Maria were all six of her siblings excluding the two babies sleeping in the pay pen next to Davina. They all hugged Stefan, the twins trying to drag him towards the pool so he could swim with them. Davina felt a little bit out of place and she should probably go and introduce herself to Stefan but she didn't want to intrude their mini reunion and decided to just sit and wait until he made his way over here. Which appears not to be too long since Stefan was currently being dragged across the freshly mowed lawn by a grinning Maria. "Davina, this is Stefan," Maria said once she reached her a huge smile on her face. "Stefan, this is my best friend Davina." Davina switched her eyes over to Stefan, her eyes instantly locking with his hazel eyes. Stefan was drop dead gorgeous, his hazel eyes shined bright with the sunlight and his jawline was sharp and looked like it could cut her finger if she traced it. He was wearing a low white v-neck shirt that gave Davina a small glimpse of the tattoos that painted his skin like a canvas, her fingers itching out to trace the ink. "It's nice to meet you Princesa," he said grabbing ahold of her left hand planting a soft delicate kiss on the back of her hand leaving a wave of tingles at the touch. Dear lord, this guy may be hotter than Elio. ༺═──────────────═༻
