Cheyenne’s P.O.V
After Ace made the call I was a nervous wreck, I mean how could I face my family after all these years? Would they even believe that my memory had been erased by the Moon Goddess? I really hoped they did because it was the truth. I was nervous about seeing Mercury again, especially as he had a new mate and a child with her, which I was happy about. I didn’t want him to be lonely and continue to mourn me, it wasn’t healthy for him and would have driven him mad if he continued on that path. The most important things to me were my children and Ace knew this. He knew how much I wanted and needed to see them, to explain everything to them and pray that they understood, that they didn’t think I wanted nothing to do with them because I did. I had been running around the kitchen trying to get dinner ready for when they arrived. I had made steak with shrimp, a side of pasta and cucumber salad, which was Selena’s favourite, the pasta was Anna’s, the shrimp was Gabrielle’s and the steak was Mercury and Isaiah’s favourite, plus everything that I was making was also Ace’s favourite too. I didn’t know how tonight was going to start or end and I wasn’t really sure if I was ready to see any of them again after all this time. Would it open up old wounds? Would it hurt them? I honestly didn’t know, but I knew that I needed to break the ice and get this over with so we could hopefully move on and I could start building a relationship with my children again. I looked at the clock as I finished plating everything up and saw that it was nearly time for them to arrive, so I went upstairs and quickly got ready.
“Link me when they are here so I can slowly come downstairs. I don’t want to scare them.” I said as I walked into the bedroom and he nodded. He got up from the chair and softly kissed me, which even though it had been three years his kisses still made my legs feel like jello. I knew that I didn’t have the added stress of worrying about the restaurant because Yara was taking care of that for me and it helped that everyone knew what was happening tonight. Everyone in the pack knew that I had remembered everything and they all helped me by making sure that everything was alright. I took a quick shower and got dressed, just as Ace mind-linked me.
“They are here, stay up there until I have explained everything to them.” Ace said, mind-linking me.
“Ace, I should be the one to explain.” I replied, mind-linking him back. Even though I wasn’t a wolf, Ace had marked me and I could mind-link with him.
“Honey, I know that you want to shoot down here and see them, but you need to understand that it's been over twenty one years since they have seen you and they might be a little freaked out to see their dead mother running down the stairs towards them. This is going to be hard for them and they might be nervous as I didn’t really explain anything when I called, so let me talk to them first and then I’ll call you down here, unless you want to stand at the door while I explain to them and then when I say come in, you open the door.” Ace said, making me sigh because I knew he was right.
“I would rather do that, besides I’m human so they can’t smell my scent, can they.” I replied, mind-linking him back just as the front door opened.
Mercury’s P.O.V
We made it to Ace’s pack a little after eight in the evening and I was hoping that he had laid on a good meal because I felt like I was starving. We got to the gates and the guards looked us over before letting us through, which made me smile because he had strict security just like me and my pack. I drove down the driveway and parked in front of the pack house, with the other SUV following me.
“Now remember, everyone keep your guards up and keep your wits about you. I don’t know what’s going on, it could be nothing, but I want you all to be prepared.” I said, mind-linking everyone and then I ended the link. I got out of the car and walked to the steps, just as Ace stepped out of the front door and stood on the porch. I could see that he was a little nervous and that only served to make me a little nervous as I started looking around for any threat to my family. If this man so much as thinks about trying to attack my family I will kick his ass on the spot and kill him. I walked up the steps and nodded to him, but I was still wary.
“Come on inside and let's have this talk. What I’m about to tell you was one hell of a shock to me and I know for a fact that it's going to be a shock for all of you as well, especially you, Mercury.” Ace said, welcoming us into his home.
Ace’s P.O.V
I led them through the pack house and straight to my office, which was big enough to hold all of us and many more, but the whole time I could feel Mercury’s eyes on me and I knew that he was being cautious. The way he stiffened showed me that he was on guard and the way he looked around told me that he was looking for a threat, which was my fault. The way I worded my invitation must have him thinking that I’m going to attack him and his family, especially as I asked them all to be here, but that wasn’t my intention. I never intended for him to feel like this, I just needed to get him here for Cheyenne. I closed the door behind Hawk, who was the last person to enter my office and then I made my way to my desk.
“Alright love, they are all in my office, so stand in the hallway outside the door.” I said, mind-linking her. Although she and I could link because we were mates, she couldn’t link the rest of the pack yet because she wasn’t a werewolf and although we had been talking about me turning her, we both decided that we wanted to wait a while longer. Everyone was looking at me, waiting for me to talk and suddenly I felt my mouth go as dry as the desert. I knew that this was going to be hard to do, to tell them that their dead mother, their dead mate and dead daughter, was alive and well, but I had no idea it was going to be this hard. I knew I needed to explain it to them first and I knew how I was going to do that, but I had no idea how I was going to start the conversation. How do I tell them that the woman they buried, the woman they mourned is really alive and right behind that door?
