chapter two Cheyenne returns

1365 Words
Edited. Cheyenne’s P.O.V I woke up to the sun shining on my face and I smiled, really excited for today and what was going to happen. Today was the day I opened up my brand new restaurant, Gator Tail and I couldn’t be anymore excited, nervous and happy. I jumped out of bed and hurried into the bathroom, taking a quick shower, drying off and then going back into the bedroom to get dressed. I put on my jeans and the grey and white shirt that said Gator Tail Restaurant on the back in bold writing and on the front said Gator Tail in the middle of the shirt. Today was the launch day and I was going to be serving customers for hours, so I wanted to look my best for them and to make a good impression. I made sure that my make-up was perfect and did my hair up in a cute messy bun, then I put on my shoes and looked in the full body mirror. I was happy that I looked not only professional, but also cute as well. I grabbed my purse and bag, then looked at the clock. Seeing that it was ten in the morning I would have two hours to make sure everything was ready before the restaurant opened, so I left the house and got into my dodge truck, starting it and hauling ass down the road. It took me thirty minutes to get there, passing by other buildings and tall trees. Every now and then I would see a deer or two on the side of the road, waiting until it was safe before they crossed and there were always hawks and eagles flying around trying to catch their food. When I got to work I parked up and hopped out of the truck, then ran up to my building. I was proud of how it looked with a huge grand opening sign right in the middle above the Gator Tail Restaurant sign. I saw some people waiting in their cars and I hoped that they were waiting for us to open. I walked inside and all the employees were running around, trying to get everything ready and it made me smile when I thought back to when I was trying to hire people. I wanted people who would work hard and enjoy being here, not people who just wanted the paycheck. I hired over two hundred people, some for the day shift, some for the night shift and some for the weekend and holidays. At first I was worried that I had hired too many people, but with how big this place was I knew that I had made the right decision because not only did it have a restaurant downstairs, but it also had one upstairs as well as a balcony and a porch so that customers could sit outside and eat. There was a bar at the front of the downstairs and one to the side of the upstairs restaurant. I had six cooks in total and seven people to prepare the food, plus I had an assistant manager that would be in charge when I wasn’t here. I went to the back, where the offices and staff room were, then I went to my office, which was huge. I looked over everything and saw that it was all ready, so I took a deep breath and asked everyone to line up side by side. “Alright guys, we are about to open, so make sure that everything is set on the tables, make sure every table has silverware, napkins and glasses. Make sure that the customers won’t have a need to ask for anything because it will already be there. Tips will not be shared out, whatever you make in tips you keep for yourself. If you need help then ask someone or ask me, you all already know how I am, so you know that I’m not going to just sit in the office. I’m going to be out here walking around, helping and making sure that everything is going right. I hired you all to do an awesome job and to make sure that everyone is happy, so do me proud. If you have a problem then come to me and I will handle it because we all know how some people are and in my place the customer is not always right. Alright then, let’s do this. Everyone ready?” I asked and heard as every single employee clapped and cheered. They were all almost as excited as I was about this and I just hoped that this night turned out to be the best ever night, with many more to come. If the customers are happy then they will tell others and more people will come. I took a deep breath as my employees spread out to do their jobs and then I walked towards the doors. When I opened them I was shocked to see just how many people were waiting to get into here. I smiled as I opened the doors wide open and stepped outside, looking at the huge queue that was going from the doors and down the side of the building. “Hello and welcome to Gator Tail Restaurant. We have five hosts that are ready and waiting to seat you, so please come inside and wait to be seated. There are tables downstairs, upstairs, on the balcony and also on the porch, so just let the host know which area you wish to be seated in and they will show you to that area. Once again Welcome to Gator Tail.” I announced and the customers cheered as they were let inside. As each set of customers stepped inside they were greeted by one of the five hosts, who were all smiling brightly and welcoming them. I watched as all of the customers were seated and the place was so packed that some customers were having to wait for a table. The music was playing and there was a live band outside on the porch that was playing music. Everyone seemed to be loving it and the compliments I was getting were brilliant, but the whole time I felt like I was being watched or something. I shivered as goosebumps formed on my arms, but I shrugged it off, rubbed my arms and began walking around, greeting each of the customers and asking how their meal was. It seemed that everyone was enjoying their visit, but then I suddenly had the same feeling of being watched again. “Okay, It's just because I’m nervous about today, that’s all it is. There is no one watching me, I’ll be okay, it’s just my nerves.” I whispered to myself. Soon all the customers had left and it was closing time, so we all chipped in and helped clean up. Each table was cleaned and sanitised, the floors were vacuumed and the dishes were washed, making sure they were clean before being put away. The napkins were put in the laundry basket and fresh ones were brought out, being folded and placed on the tables with clean silverware next to them. The employees were happy with the large tips they received and I just hoped that they wouldn’t expect this every time because there will be times when customers don’t tip or don’t tip as well as other days. By the time everything was finished we were all exhausted and were leaving to head home. I was over the moon that the opening was a huge hit and was hoping that tomorrow would be a hit as well, but I was also exhausted. The Gator Tail was good and so was everything else as well. When I got home I took a shower to get the smell of food off and then poured myself a glass of wine, sitting on the couch to relax and enjoy the success from today, but my mind kept going back to what I felt when I was working. How I felt like I was being watched, but who would want to watch me? I’m nothing special.
