CHAPTER 6

CHAPTER SIX As I lay on his chest on the Queen-sized comfy bed, I could hear his calm heartbeat. I wished I could freeze the moment now so I could replay it over and over, every time I felt the doubts creeping up in my heart. Even in the dead of night, with only just the two of us, I felt something looming. It felt like there was something coming and at the same time, I was feeling guilty over not telling him about his father’s affair. I must have dozed off at around three in the morning only to wake up at five. After a quick bath and Lara being gracious enough to make us some light breakfast, we hit the road again. I couldn’t afford to skip school despite how tired and sleepy I was. I had begun dosing off with the ide of my face against his back, my arms tightly hanging around Lucian’s chest and I only snapped back to reality when he pulled to a sudden stop.   “What happened?” I questioned, feeling my heartbeat increasing due to the sudden stop.   “Maniyah,” Lucian breathed and that was when I peered over his shoulder, to the woman before us. Her car, a grey range rover was parked across the road, almost as if she knew we would be coming this way.  I stepped off the bike, facing the woman. I had hoped that the moment she disappeared out of town, it would be for good but apparently, I was wrong.   “Don’t you think you should have just stay hidden?” I broached carefully. Lucian was quick to grab my wrist, his sharp blue eyes pinned on the demoness in front of us.   “Hidden?” she scoffed, “Aww…aren’t you just a little naïve kiddo? I wasn’t hiding. I was out to get the high demons. We are going to take over this town and we certainly do not need you on our side. This town,” she paused, covering the distance between us as a nerving smirk enticed her lips,” is going to be mine and I’ll make sure every single person who ever crossed me, perishes under my wrath. You better get your families and friends to scatter far away from this town. I assure you, I don’t have any mercy left me at all,”   She walked back into her car, driving off leaving me shaken. The darkness that emanated from within her was unsettling, tickling my demon side. As much as it had blended with Katia, there was still a part of me that feared it could try to take over someday, now that I had all the demon venom from Roman inside me. It was impossible to confide these fears to Lucian or anyone for that matter because everyone was having a moment of peace and I’d hate to be the one to ruin that.   “Hey,” Lucian grabbed my shoulders, making me look up to meet his gaze,” Nothing is going to happen, Red. We are not going to let Maniyah win,”   I nodded, barely trusting my voice. All the way back to town, I could not stop thinking about Maniyah’s threat. If anything happened to anyone I cared about, I would be doomed. Lucian dropped by an open clothes store, where we changed and rushed off to school, arriving just a few seconds before the bell went off.   “That was close,” He laughed breathlessly as we literally ran into the math class and as predicted, Mrs. Mathews was not yet in. I pushed Maniyah to the back of my mind, choosing to let myself be as happy as I can before the next set of chaos reigned in this town.   “Where the f**k have you been since yesterday?” Peggy was the first to start as I sat down next to her.   “Good morning to you too Peggy,” I cooed, offering her sweet smile as I opened my math book, stealing a quick glance at my boyfriend sitting in the back of the class. He winked at me, wearing a charming smile despite being obviously the target of scolding from his two friends.   “Don’t good morning, Peggy to me. Do you have any idea how your mother and uncle Thomas were worried about you? I had to fake an excuse to make them at least fall asleep and you know what’s the worst part? Your phone was off even though you promised me a photoshoot for my IG,” she paused,” Anyway, where the hell did you disappear to? Because I had to find out from Ian of all people that he saw you leave town with Lucian. Ian Murray, Faith,” how could I forget they still loathed Ian over something his father did?   I touched her palm,” I’m happy that you are so concerned about me, cousin. I just needed some alone time with my boyfriend especially after the past few months we’ve had,”   “You think you are the only ones who need a day off? I’m dying to have some time away from this shitty town. Leon isn’t talking to me after I told him I had no feelings for him whatsoever and well, I can’t face Tae because I don’t even know what I’m feeling about him. The marking just had to mess up my emotions so more and now I can’t sort them out. So yeah, you are not the only one who needed a break,” At the latter part, her voice broke down, making it obvious the amount of dilemma this was weighing on her. I shouldn’t feel sorry for her after she kissed Leon like that but at the end of the day, she was my cousin and one of the people that had seen to it I settled quite well when I came in this town. Though seeing her like made me feel a little guilty, knowing I was keeping a big secrete from her about her father.   “If things go well, maybe we might skip town and hike somewhere over the weekend,” I suggested.   “Did someone say skip town for the weekend?” Andrew was quick to jump in, his head sandwiched between Peggy and me.   “It would be fun, wouldn’t it? Except I don’t know much about the camping,” I admitted.   “Leave that to me. I have all the info of the best camping sites out of town and all you have to do is tell me how many people are coming. I’ll make all the necessary arrangements, make the plan and make sure we all have a merry time. I haven’t been out of this town in like forever,” Andrew said, excitement already showing on his face.   “Great then. I’ll just tell Lucian about it and by the end of the day, we’ll know who is coming. Lets just hope no chaos arise in town,” I smiled, even though on the inside I couldn’t help the nervousness crawling up on me. I wanted to tell them about Maniyah’s unprecedented meeting but at the same town I did not want to ruin the mood.   Just then Leon came in looking like he hadn’t had a wink of sleep an entire night and all he had done was roll into the first thing he saw in the morning.   “Hey Faith,” he greeted me but then his eyes met Peggy. For a second, they held gazed but then he walked right past Blessing who had her eyes buried in her book. f**k! I knew this was not going to end well.   Suddenly Leon turned around before he could sit, making his way back to Peggy with a determined look on his face. Oh, no!   “Peggy,” he called. Peggy had a tensed look on her face as she looked up.   “Hey, Leon,” A nervous chuckle left her lips.   “Don’t you feel anything for me at all?” he questioned, in a hopeful tone and even though he tried to hide the hurt from his voice, one could easily tell it was right there. Getting rejected by someone you’ve wanted for so long was admittedly painful.   “Wow! Its not even twenty-four hours since you broke up with me and now you are chasing after someone else right in front of me,” Blessing snapped, gaining the attention of the entire class. f**k! This was certainly not going to end well.   “Not now Blessing,” Leon muttered aggravatedly.   “Not now? You are a f*****g piece of s**t Leon. You claimed that you liked me and you told me I’m the only one for you. Were all those lies? Was I just someone to pass time with and help you out with your stupid assignments?” she paused, heaving but clearly she wasn’t done,” Why did you have to wait till I was falling for you hard to crush my heart? Why did you have to make me feel something for you and then just chose to break me down completely with no mercy? Then out of nowhere you tell me that’s it not working out and that you have no feelings for me whatsoever,” she grabbed the collar of his shirt, tears in her eyes with pain in her voice,” Why me? What did I ever do except like you? Well, guess what? You did it. You broke my heart and my trust and now I’m really hoping you rot in hell!”   She then stormed out of the class just as Mrs. Mathews walked in, muttering a profuse number of apologies for being late again while saying something about her car breaking down. I looked at Leon and I and never seen him looking that hurt and something akin to regret dancing at the center of his orbs. At this point, Blessing was the one they hurt the most and there was no coming back from that.   “Can you please sit down, Mr. Guzman,” The teacher implored, adjusting her glasses.   Leon glanced one more time at the open door before he went to sit, a cuss leaving his lips just loud enough for me to hear. I knew this not going to end well and that was why I had warned Leon, based on my own experience, not to lead Blessing on unless he was one hundred percent sure about her.
