CHAPTER FIVE
Katia purred inside me with awakened desire, almost begging me to give in to the dire want. Lucian’s kiss was not just a mere touch of the lips but one that told me he wanted me so much as fully his. The scent of his aroused wolf wafted into my nostrils, teasing Katia but then Lucian suddenly pulled back, his chest heaving.
“What?” I questioned softly.
“You are not ready yet,” wait, how the hell did he know that? As much as I was turned on, caught in the heat of the passion we shared, I didn’t feel quite as ready yet to let him consume me or mark in anyway. I had no idea why I’d feel like that when my love for Lucian was too obvious. I just knew there was this feeling inside me, nagging me to wait.
“I-“He placed his index finger on my lips, cutting me off as a small smile tapped on his lips.
“You don’t have to explain a thing to me. Now come on, you want to race me to the other side of the pool?” He quickly switched to a jovial state. For a second, I’d thought he’d probably be disappointed but then yet again, he surprised me with reaction. Sometimes whenever I looked at Lucian now and think about how he was when I first met him, I’d get convinced these were two different men. All the cold arrogance and anger that once tainted his soul were now gone from him and despite how hard our lives still were, he somehow smiled through it all and tried to make sure I was happy too.
“Trust me, I’ll beat you to it,” I said, a smile touching my own lips.
We’d raced in the pool quite a few times, then had some lunch I knew I could not afford on just my earnings from the library. I had to admit that this town was pretty nice but not like Woodcave, which despite its chaotic demeaner actually boasted of exotic taste. We had walked around town, our phones on airplane mode, taking pictures and recording silly videos us. It felt like finally I was living that one unforgettable moment of my life with boy I was irrevocably in love with. Night had rolled in quite fast and our tired limbs had actually found themselves in Karaoke. We didn’t need a motel anymore since Lara had offered us a place to sleep tonight. Thinking about it now, it was a crazy idea that we were spending the night out, taking into account that my mother was not the kind to let her kid sleep out. I knew that the moment I got back in tomorrow, I would be in for it but this night felt like it was worth it.
“This is beautiful,” I muttered as walked under the starry night, my right hand hinged around Lucian’s. It was pretty cold but being with Lucian like this with no worries at all, was much better.
“What?” He questioned.
“This,” I paused, smile enveloping my face,” Us. This moment is too precious. We should do something like this often now that the midterms are over,” I said.
“You are right but remember how we talked about organizing a hike with our friends? Well, I was thinking about it and how about we go on Friday? We all deserve a break especially after the past few weeks,”
“I think you really do. Who knows what is going to happen soon, right?” I felt my heart jump in my mouth at the unexpected person appearing out of nowhere. Lucian already had his nerves on high alert, his grip on my hand tightening.
“Ronald. Always so dramatic about your entrances,” I pointed out, already feeling exasperation building up in me. Most people would be exhilarated at the presence of their fathers but not me. I still loathed this man to the bone because he turned my entire life into a mess. If I had just one wish, I’d make him disappear for good.
“Not the opening statement I expected but I’ve been good Faith, even though you didn’t ask. So how is your brother doing?” He questioned, crossing his arms and not at all bothered by the fact that I had open resentment for him written all over my face.
“You have the audacity to ask me about Roman after the hell you’ve put our family through? How about you do me a favor and get you and your demon friends back to hell or whatever place you came from?” I snapped.
“Hmmm…what was that boy’s name, huh? Normac? Normad? It was Norman, right? Why does he even like jogging at six-thirty in the morning on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, huh? Don’t even get me started on his mother’s obsession with Steak Fridays at the Woodcave Bar & Grill with that boy toy of hers. She is kind of hot though and maybe I could-“
“What the hell do you want Ronald?” I cut him.
“You already know what I want, Faith. Spare some time to meet me when you get back to town tomorrow. If you don’t, I won’t be so gentle on him and his little family,” With that he disappeared in the darkness of the night, leaving me furious.
“What the hell was that?” Lucian demanded.
“Let’s just say Norman got a little stupid,” I released a shaky breath. Why could he not have listened to me and stayed away from Angel’s case until we figured something out together as a group? Now both of us were at the mercy of Ronald and if I didn’t abide by whatever he said, then it was his family in peril.
“Care to explain some more?”
“Norman got himself in a pickle over the Angel situation. When he accepted Ronald’s help to find Angel’s whereabouts, he became his little slave boy and he even branded a mark on his skin. If he tried anything stupid, Ronald makes that mark burn excruciatingly. Now he is even using Norman’s family as leverage to get me to do whatever he wants. He is so damn obsessed with being some underworld royalty that he blackmailing me into it,” I breathed out in fury. I just wanted one damn day to be happy with my boyfriend and then my father just had to ruin it.
“I won’t let him manipulate you into doing anything, okay? We gotta get rid of him,”
“What?” I asked.
“Look, he may be your father but Ronald has taken so much from me and I’d be damned if he took you away too. I’d rather kill myself that lose you, Red. I mean it,” I could already see it in his eyes that meant every word he said.
“Its good to know that I got you,” I whispered.
“You’ll always have me until death do us part,” he touched the tip of my nose, poking lightly.
“Until death do us part,” I repeated.
