Alpha Eric's POV
I barged into my office and grunted in rage and regret.
''f**k!'' I cursed angrily and hit a stool on my way.
How could I be so careless as to kill someone, and not just anyone but an innocent maiden.
''s**t! s**t! s**t!'' I groaned in regret as I roughly ran my fingers through my hair in frustration.
I have always been careful; I have always been careful not to stain my hands with the blood of the innocent, and now, because of my anger, I killed someone—not just anybody but an innocent maiden.
''Alpha, everyone is waiting for you in the hall.'' Chris spoke up the moment he walked in.
Sharply, I took a deep breath and walked out of the room while Chris followed behind.
We walked past a few rooms in the mansion before getting to the big hall where I held events and big festivals.
Quickly, Chris opened the door and stood aside for me to walk in.
''This is it.'' I murmured to myself and stepped into the hall.
The minute they noticed my presence, they all stood on their feet and lowered their heads in respect, but I could see the sad and pity looks on their faces.
I walked to the seat reserved for me. In front of the hall, I noticed the twelve Gammas of my clan and Anita's mother sitting at my right-hand side.
''Let the ceremony begin.'' I muttered out in a firm voice which hold no atom of pain, despite the agonies I was feeling in me.
The door of the hall came wide open, and four men carried Anita's body on a decorated stretcher.
I gulped as I watched them walk into the hall and place her on the large wooden table in the center.
Everyone was kneeling and bowing their heads to the ground as she was laid, paying their final respects to their Luna.
A priestess of the goddess made some rituals for a peaceful return to the moon goddess and for her soul to rest in perfect peace. After the rituals, I was the first to pay my last respects to her so she could be buried.
I took a deep breath and stood on my feet with pain in my heart, but I made sure no one took notice of it.
With heavy feet, I walked to her body and fixed my gaze on her.
Just staring at her, one would think she was asleep, so I wished, but I knew it was never possible.
With quivering hands, I ran my fingers through her hair when she was alive. Anita's hair was my favorite thing in her body because of its softness and length.
I drew back the tears that were threatening to fall from my eyes and placed a kiss on her forehead.
I took a deep breath to inhale her alluring scent, but it was gone. All I could smell were the perfumes she was wearing.
I gulped in discomfort and stared at her one more time, making sure I was able to register this moment in my head, and I walked back to my seat.
I tried communicating with my wolf, but he had shut himself away from me since Anita's death, and I couldn't have access to him.
Anita's mother was the next to pay her respects. When she got to where Anita was lying, she cried out and hugged her tightly, not wanting to let go of Anita. I closed my eyes and shut myself off from everyone just to clear my head for a while.
After a while, I opened my eyes and noticed that members of my pack were going to pay their last respects to her.
After more than an hour, everyone was settled, and it was time to lay Anita to rest.
I slowly stood on my feet and swallowed in pain before leading the way out of the hall.
The body of Anita was behind me, while my twelve gammas and Anita's mother followed behind.
We got to a spot in the mansion where she was to be buried, and I stood there, staring at the already-cemented tomb.
Anita's body was lifted off the stretcher and laid on the cemented tomb.
The priestess did another incantation, and it was time for ashes to become ashes.
With shaking hands, I picked a mole of sand from the ground and threw it in the tomb, followed by her favorite rose flowers.
Her mother did the same, followed by my beta and the gamma of my twelve tribes.
Some clothes and jewelries of hers were placed in the tomb because it was believed that every Luna of a pack is like a princess in the heavens and must be accompanied by attire and jewelries to the great beyond.
After every ritual was done, I stared at her body one more time and did not know where a tear had dropped on my cheek.
Quickly, I took a deep breath and asked for her tomb to be covered.
Seven male servants covered her with the big tomb cover, and we stood there and watched them cement it. After she was covered, I asked everyone to leave, and I was left alone standing before her grave.
"I'm so sorry, Anita. I'm really sorry." I murmured in pain as tears dropped on my cheeks.
''If there was something I could do to bring you back, I would have done it because I love you so much.'' I said those words as I gulped.
Slowly, I took a deep breath, and my thoughts went to Alpha Rona and his sister, and I felt anger and hatred envelope my entire being.
''I will make them pay; I will inflict so much pain on her that she will desire a quick death.'' I muttered those words loudly as a promise to Anita.
