Chapter 11
The regularly scheduled meeting of the Fries Town Council convened with a historical beginning. Herbie and Armbrister jointly took the gavel and symbolically opened the meeting. Armbrister quickly went through the agenda in his very efficient, organized manner. Then he got to the last item on the agenda which was simply listed as “Christmas Committee.”
“As we all know,” Armbrister said, “the town is looking at the possibility of a dismal Christmas this year. But that doesn’t mean we have to accept it. I challenge us to give this town the best Christmas ever. A Christmas based not upon lots of expensive toys, but based upon the true meaning of the Season.”
Applause erupted, and Armbrister’s hesitated, and then continued.
