Sthenys watched Jerry Harper's little pep rally with disdain. For a moment, he thought about appearing on the bridge just to scare the Agrarians a little. But that thought quickly passed. He was pushing his luck already. If he interfered too directly, his peers in the Luminiferous Plane might decide to push back. He couldn't afford that. Not yet.
The important thing was that he had guessed correctly. The Agrarian Masters—and a few Felid ones, too—had masked a great deal of the galaxy. It was a typical tactic in times of war. For the most part, it worked. No Master could “cheat” on behalf of his or her former Breed by spying for them. It was fair enough, and it had kept the peace in the Luminiferous Plane for a long time.
