Chapter 17 – Captain Harper
Half a day's repair work and three days' cross-space journey later, the battle-damaged Ormelius jumped into the Lightbridge system. Even with holes in the hull and a skeleton crew, the trip through cross-space had failed to shake the ship apart.
Jerry took that as a good sign.
He sat in the chair in the captain's cabin. As commander of a victorious boarding party, the ship was technically “his,” even though he was an infantryman, not a vac. The prize crew had come aboard and taken over operation of the vessel, but Snake Platoon still “owned” the Ormelius. It was an old legal custom dating back to wind-powered sailing ships and war on the high seas. It seemed like a silly regulation in the spacefaring era, but it meant Jerry got to officially command a warship
