The men nodded in understanding and they put their helmet and kicked their horses, tearing through the forest. They could still hear the wailing and screaming of the people of Aba. They tore their way through the deserted market near the palace of Aba and continued to ride nonstop. It was when they were nearing the road leading out of the city of the palace of Aba that Adere looked at his left side and saw the ancient beast by the corner of an abandoned house. The beast noticed them at once and began to tore it's way to them. Adere kicked his horse harder and so did the rest.
"Do not look back, keep riding!!!" Adere screamed and the men kicked their horses harder and kept riding through the dusty road. At some point Adere looked back but did not see the beast after them. On his returning his face to the front he saw the beast tore itself out of a bush and pounced on one of them. The horse of the soldier fell and the soldier fell too, sprang to his feet immediately and drew his sword to fight the beast. Adere and the rest kept riding as Adere overhead the screams of the soldier that fell off his horse he knew that the beast had devoured him. Adere noticed that the beast was not giving up on them as he caught it with his left eye still running towards them. Adere notified the rest and they kept riding fast. After a long ride they entered the road leading to Adere's father's maternal home and Adere knew that it was time for them to witness whatever it was that had brought him to his father's maternal home. When they reached the compound Adere jumped down from the horse and the rest did the same and they circled up, holding their swords in readiness. They could no longer see the beast but they knew it was around. They remained like that until Adere heard a growling noise behind him and he slowly turned and screamed. The rest turned towards the same direction and they pointed their swords at the beast. The beast was going round them but could not enter the compound. Adere noticed this and said aloud, "Looks like he is afraid of something in this compound. We must all beware and not step out of this circle. It can't attack us while we remain in this circle!!!"
They remained in the compound and the beast refused to go. One of the soldiers after looking at the beast for sometimes spoke out, "I'm seeing this for the first time, or should I say I'm seeing it clearly for the first time. How can this exist; half human and half lion and there is no solution on how to get rid of it"
"The solution is why we are here and please stop speaking for now" said Adere and the rest kept looking at the beast. The beast then sat down and Adere realised that it was not going anywhere anytime soon. He alerted the others to lower there weapons and they did.
"We have to rest and wait for it to leave then we can search for what we came for" said Adere and one of the soldiers shook his head.
"I'm not resting with that terrible beast in front of me. How on earth will I be able to rest?" He hissed and remained standing even while others were now seated. Adere was not seated and so he walked up to the soldier that had spoken last and held his shoulder, "You are right and because of this utterance of yours I can say you are the only one worthy enough to have my back"
