Chapter 12: A Ride with kai

1646 Words
Kai Close to two minutes we stood there, she didn't try to leave and I didn't move a muscle. It was starting to get awkward with people looking at us. It had everything to do with me due to my poor public image but I didn't care about them. My heart was beating for the girl frozen in front of me and for once I wished she was a werewolf like me so that we could both get out of there, morph and I could read her mind and know what she was thinking about. "I never want to see you again Kai, for my own peace of mind. It's just not possible for you to be thinking about me, it doesn't make sense" "Okay" I moved away to allow her to pass, "Am a gentleman, I'll keep my word" I said when she looked hesitant. Perhaps reading her mind was not possible, but I could feel her heart pound in her chest. She was afraid. Almost as if her decision was forced and not out of free will. She took a couple of steps forward and turned around. In a perfect world where I could control everything including bringing my imagination to life I wanted her to run back to me with her open arms and just hug away all the sadness and that of my heart broken wolf, tackle me to the curb stoned ground and whisper in my ear how much she had missed me. But no. Instead she just smiled. A sad, goodbye smile. "I hope you understand Kai..." "It's okay, if you feel bad about it then it means you're wrong. Let me at least walk you to your car" "I'll take a cab I don't have one" "Then let me at least drop you off at your apartment then...unless your boyfriend..." "I don't have one either, don't worry about me am fine" she said and quickly walked away. Giving up was not an option to me. f**k me trying to keep my word, it was not the time and place. This was the reverse button, start a fresh button I had been longing for. The one I couldn't buy even with billions of dollars in my name and the power to heal instantly. I followed her closely until she waved down a cab. "I thought you said you're a gentleman?" I ignored her and pleaded my case to the only person who could understand how it felt to be in my situation at that moment. The cab guy. "Dude, I'll pay you one thousand dollars not to carry her away. You see I'm trying to ask her out" I said going to my wallet, from the bunch of notes I fished out ten, hundred dollar bills, "I'll do anything to get just five minutes with her and you not carrying her will give me that" The guy took the money gladly and drove off. She just glared at me and I found it romantic and amusing at the same time. She waved down another and I kept paying them off until I ran out of cash and started giving away my belongings. First it was the empty wallet itself, then my Rolex, shoes and I was about to give away my suit and just stand there bare chested in my boxers. She pitied me and sent the guy on his way. "You're crazy" "In love with you" I said smiling, "So cool, see we're even finishing each other's sentences" "It's true what they say about you, you're broken and hopeless" So she had been doing some digging. Even better news for me. "A hopeless romantic, look, all I want is you to get with me in that car. I'll drive you to your apartment. You'll freshen up and then we will go for a date" "And after the date you promise to leave me alone?" "You don't trust me so there is no need of answering that question. Please" I said showing her to the car like a chauffeur. "No, I'm not getting in that high end toy before you swear you'll leave me alone after that date" "I do swear" I even crossed my heart. "Means nothing...swear on your mother Kai!" That's when I realized she was dead serious about it. If it was just anyone asking me swear on my mother I would have clawed their damn heads off. But it was her. Harming her would have done more damage to me. Unknowingly she had made the odds even bigger and now it was going to take a lot of convincing, do or die for me. "I swear on my mother, I'll leave you alone after that date if you will want me to" I said. "Remember, she is watching" she said walking past me. I quickly rushed to open the door of the Ferrari to her. She sat in and I locked it. Took a minute to celebrate my win jumping with my fist in the air before I took the driver’s seat. That’s when I realized my feet were aching. "Buckle up mum, where to?" I asked gently turning on the AC in the car. "Eastlake Hotel" it came out almost like a mumble and I thought she was joking. "Are you kidding me, you stay in a hotel that I own by the way and I haven't been able to find you in this city?" I said devastated. She looked at me shyly and looked down. Maybe that came out as a mockery or something because all of a sudden she seemed so uncomfortable. Lynn What did he mean he was looking for me? I felt a tinge of butterflies in my abdomen that died down when my mother's warning rang in my head, again. So he was thinking about me after all? "Hey, am sorry" he said and keyed in the ignition. The sports car roared with energy attracting the attention of those around us. "For what exactly? Because I can think of a lot you need to apologize for" "I didn't mean to make fun of you staying in a hotel. I just don't believe you..." To prove my point I fished out the key card and dropped it on his lap. He took a quick glance at it and put his focus back on the road. "Ooh, how long have you stayed there?" "A day" I said, "Am not from around, that's why you couldn't find me in your city don't beat yourself up" He literally took a sigh of relief. From the stunt he pulled back there to get me to ride with him I could tell how much he hated losing. Being a billionaire I bet he had that winning mentality ingrained on his mind with a blacksmith's curving knife. "So, where are you from?" "What will we talk about on that date?" "Okay, am just curious, with a lot of questions right now. My apologies" he said slowing down in front of a mall. The car swerved through the iron gates of the lit up mall and he parked in one of the posh VIP spots. It was probably one of his numerous properties, what a show off. He killed the engine then from his dashboard he got out a stick note and a pen, scribbled something on it and fished out his credit card from his side pockets. "What are you doing? Why did we stop here?" "Would you mind getting me a pair of shoes?" He asked giving me the credit card and the note. A quick skim through it and I opened the door obediently like one of his servants and walked to the entrance. Now that he was far away I could think straight. What the f**k was I doing with him? And how did he even find me? Scratch that, why was he looking for me all over in the first place? Then there was this thing about how humble he looked around me, the humor and jokes, and that version of him around others. All of the unanswered questions going through my mind couldn't be addressed while strolling through the sea of a mall looking for a pair of shoes that was worth my air ticket back to Hillwood. Not that I could steal from him, but who on God's green earth trusts a random stranger with a credit card worth millions of dollars? It was true he was deranged. But the sad part is, I was starting to feel like he wasn't always like that. And out of curiosity I wanted to know how he was before all that. They say a curiosity killed a cat, I had used my nine lives already. "Thank you" he said taking his time to wear them, "A perfect fit, we should shop together sometimes" "Don't push your luck....why did you trust me with your expensive credit card? I could have as well ran away with it nothing in this handbag is of any value to a man like you" "But you didn't run, didn't you?" He asked grinning as we hit the main road again, "I won't say I trust you, it will be a lie but am good at reading people and you seem like a good person, your dignity is not in that bag, it's your most prized possession" He said without looking at me. Dear God, how could someone be so arrogant, weird and scary, and at the same time so entertaining, smart and cute as a button? At the beginning of that short ride with him I had decided I was going on that date just to get him off my back. But then, I couldn't wait to go on that date with him and have him welcome me to his world. Sorry mum. I tried my best to resist him.
