Chapter 11: Persona non grata

1730 Words
Lynn The entire team was at the marketing department of the sunflower lotions and beauty products. We were going through the shoots, critiquing them and the creative suggesting various designs. The camera men and women were standing with a sample of the products with their HD cameras attached to tripods in front of 1.8* 3m green screen. There were also some black soft box lighting kits and a mirror with a makeshift changing room by the side. "Everyone take five!" The director of the shoot gave us the long awaited break. My designated assistant and I walked to the comfortable changing room. It was decorated with a red couch resting on an alternating maroon and grey colored mat and another red sofa bed with a cylindrical shaped puffed pillow for resting and lying down, a glass table on which my phone's and remotes rested. Hanging on the wall was a seventy two inch curved Samsung screen showing the music channel. A small kitchen, a double door fridge with a row of cokes standing one behind another, fruits and milk. There was also an electric kettle, a microwave and other kitchen appliances. And of course my favorite part of the room, the massive wardrobe with all kinds of clothes my size. The company shopped them and they were mine to use after the shoot. That explains why I carried with me a single suitcase. And on top of all that, they wrote me a cheque with a six figure digits on it. "You guys are going overboard with this" I said as we got in, she shut the door behind us. "You deserve it, look at the feedback online" Mona said and gave me an apple iPad. She was talking about the freshly erected billboard at the world famous, beautiful sky city ring road. The response was motivating. The netizens were praising the creativity and of course the beauty of the modeling. Others praised the product and others the model, how beautiful and sexy she was. And of course a few bad apples on the whole stash trolling my body features ooh my eyes were too huge, my ass was small and all petty grievances. It was understandable, for artists like I feedback, whether positive or negative was important to improve our art. "Why are all this skians salty?" I asked handing her back the iPad. "They are claiming we over looked the home models" "Tell them am too good...ooh that's my favorite jam, came the right time to save the day" I said wiggling my ass on my way to the fridge, I needed a cold drink. "You listen hip hop" "You're the type that assumes hip hop is for boys to hunnie I have no specific genre. Anything with a beat I dance" "Cool, so I tried to look you up on social media and nothing came up" A model with no social media. That was me. I once used to be active there at the beginning of my life as a celebrity. Sharing my life with the world and people thought I was happy and perfect, some wanted to be like me but in real sense I was just introducing a bunch of bastards to the world and one after the other they dumped me and I got tired of introducing a new one every time I thought I was in love and at last I decided to do away with sharing my broken life with the world. Some were already making fun of me. That perhaps I was the problem, beauty with no brains or manners or no respect and qualities of a wife. It was true, to some extent I was the problem, but not what the world thought. I am no angel but on all occasions, I ignored the red signs and assumed love grows and people change for love. Well, some do but you can never know and that's a chance you don't want to take. "Am not a fun but I'll rejoin soon" I said sipping from my glass, leaning by the sink with my gaze fixed outside. "So you were there and you left" "My shrink said it was good for my mental health...quite a long story I'll tell you in a seating" I deflected emptying my glass of mango juice. There was this Random heavy knock on the door that cut short our storytelling. We groaned both of us walking towards the door, the five minutes were not even over but we had to work. "Mum, this ones are for you" one of the guards headed me a banquet of flowers and I didn't take them since I wasn't expecting any. "Who are they from?" Mona asked taking them on my behalf. "There is a card there read it" the guard said and left immediately. Mona locked the door and followed me back to the couch. I was still trying to think who the flowers were from. "What does the card say?" "Nothing much....Good day beautiful. Am waiting outside?" "I have no idea who it is, just keep them away we have a job to do" I said leading the way outside to the rest of the group. The rest of the shoot went on well. The entire team settled on three prototypes that were going to be presented to the board for approval the next morning. Mona led me back to the changing room, we packed our things and had a change of clothes, as we were about to leave she handed me the banquet of flowers. "Figured out whom they are from yet?" "Probably a secret admirer among all this bulls" "Okay, bye, see you tomorrow at the board meeting" "Wait up, walk with me I can't handle all this eyes on me" She smiled and tucked her hand in mine, then like two little teenagers we walked holding hands and chuckling. The boys had their eyes fixed on us and the confident ones waved. Apparently Mona was single too, and pretty so she had an idea what I was going through. When we got to the reception a sudden wave hit me. I stopped abruptly. A ringing noise in my head threatened to burst my ear drums and I felt like there was a voice trying to speak to me in the wind. "Are you okay? Don't worry it gets this windy sometimes" "Am fine" I said managing a smile. The voices had stopped and it was all calm again. But I had this weird feeling like Kai was watching me. I looked around as we walked outside the building. There was no sign of him. "Is everything okay? Anyone threatening you" "No one...oh my God" I said my gaze fixed on him and an invisible wind blew away my hair, joy, fear, worry filled my heart at once and I didn't know what to feel seeing him, leaning on a red Ferrari, waving his hands with a smile. "You know him?" Mona asked me surprised. Just like everyone had told me I expected her to give me the brutal, broken version of him and warn me against him. It was okay, he was irresistible in absentia, but standing right in front of me I wasn't sure if I could heed to any negativity about him. But I had to stay strong for my mother. She warned me against the likes of him, it was time to honor her. "Yes we linked up once during my previous visit" "He is so cool, though I've...." "The stories are everywhere. He is weird, arrogant and broken beyond repair. I do my background checks. Goodbye, I got this!" "I trust you to make the best decision" "And what's that again?" "Stay away from him" she said going to her car. Kai I was willing to wait for eternity if that’s what it was going to take and finally after hesitation and consulting with who seemed like her friend she started walking towards me. A low growl of joy from my wolf forced me to put my sheds back on. But then I couldn't see her well so I got rid of them. Watched her walk as though she was stepping on egg shells towards me in a light green V-neck dress. The banquet of flowers in one hand and her matching green hand bag in the other, long shaven feet protruding from underneath her dress, in a pair of black heels that made her look like a pelican. Now I could understand why Sunflower lotions and beauty products hired her to be on that billboard. She was a standard of all models, glowing with extreme beauty, the epitome of it, that I wanted to tame and nature. "Kai, what are you doing here?" she asked recovering from the surprise. "Hi Lynn glad to see you too. I can see you got my gift, sorry it's the least I could do on short notice...." "Please, am not interested in seeing you again, thank you for the flowers. Bye!" She said defiantly walking away to the exit. That's what I liked about her. Except for the fact that she was my cure or she knew something about it. That defiance with which she talked and carried herself with, others would have confused it with pride but not me, I understood her perfectly. I ran after her blocking her path. "Just hear me out okay? It's going to take a minute" "No Kai, we had a great time but it ended there. For the record I haven't thought of you since then" she said avoiding eye contact and that's how I could tell she was lying. "Well that's too bad because you won't believe this but I haven't been the same since we met. Tell me you never want to see me again, ever in your life and I will walk away right now" I dared raising the odds. She raised her gaze and looked at me with surprise. Exhaled sharply scratching her black as a devil's soul silk-like long hair that flowed from her head to her waist. I bet she was wondering what to do with me. If she asked me, a date was a good starting point. A second date would prove me wrong or right. But one thing was for sure, she was my cure or a lead to it.
