Chapter 2

Beyond waves 

Frankie

After I left Damien behind I couldn't hold back a bittersweet smile. Our happy ending was in our hands and now we were tear apart again. I followed Cameron and Liz silently and looked around the landscape that opened in front of my eyes. It was magical to be honest, I saw before near the shore with Damien and our friends but I've never dived so deep. This was a completely different world. As we were diving more and more deep into the water the wildlife changed , at the beginning I saw many different colorful fishes and we also saw across a jellyfish swarm, as we gone deeper we met with whales, and sharks also.The water was getting cooler with every meters we took. I didn't even noticed how cold the water was until I saw Liz's skin getting a little paler. Suddenly Cam and Liz whispered to me to hide while they hid behind a coral on a huge atoll. I couldn't react fast enough and found myself just right in front of a great white shark. Cameron and Liz were terrified, this fish was a lot bigger than us and I had no idea what will happen now. My eyes met with the shark's and we were just staring at each other while Cam and Liz breathlessly watched the scene. Instead of attacking me the shark sniffed my face and made a round around me. I extended my hand when it was in front of me again and it pushed its head gently against the palm of my hand. I looked back at my friends whose jaws dropped down and I asked.

- What is happening? - They came out of their hiding places. Liz held Cameron's hand and they approached me slowly. 

- I have no idea...- Cameron said and from behind her Liz talked.

- They are normally attacking us. But it looks like this shark likes you. 

- I'm wondering if the others do it too. - Cameron said and Liz squeezed her hand.

- Lets just not find this out. - I grinned and pet a little bit more the shark before it swam away. We kept swimming down until we arrived to a ditch. At its right far away there was a huge underwater city just the same that you would imagine Ariel's reign in the ' Little mermaid", and in front of us only the deep, dark, cold, mysterious water. Liz started to pull me to the direction of the city while Cam did the same but towards to the ditch. When they realized that I'm motionless Liz stared at her girlfriend.

- We must take her to the king. So they can agree and Frankie could clear her name. - But Cameron grimaced at Liz and for the first time since I knew them she looked at Liz like she was stupid. Liz is a very sensitive, childish and cute girl, there is no question about who is more dominant and mature in their relationship but this time Liz didn't agree with Cameron. Cam smirked and with a derisive voice she said.

- Lizzy , come on! He will kill Frankie! He doesn't want to talk about anything. Drew is a liar! How could Frankie kill their mother if she didn't even know that she existed? - Liz shook her head.

- You are talking like you want a war here Cameron. Don't be so stubborn. - Cameron laughed.

- You shouldn't be so naive! - I decided to pull my hands out of their hold and stop this useless arguing. 

- Girls stop. - They shut up and stared at me. - Can you tell me one by one what is going on exactly? - They nodded and Cameron started.

- Well your half brother Drew  ostracized many people from our city, basically all the hybrids and everyone who thought that he was lying about the queen's murder. They now live there in a secret cave in this ditch waiting for someone to bring them justice. That someone according to our myths will be an outcast princess who will return after many years to bring peace to our kingdom and with her closest living relative she will unit the earth and ocean. - I listened her carefully and looked down the ditch. My heart clenched for the thought that there were probably many little children as well there who were just as afraid as I was in my childhood. I turned to Liz and she sighed.

- Okay, so what happened was that, a few days before your wedding with Damien someone killed Amelia the queen and after that Drew found her with a werewolf knife in her back. He said to everyone that you came back and killed her for sending you away. - I nodded and I knew that I would've been capable of doing this at the beginning when I got my powers but not now. Liz continued.-There are lots of citizens who thinks that Drew would be a good king and that you mean danger to them. This is why I want you to show them they are wrong and this way we could avoid a war. - I sat down at the edge of the ditch and buried my face in the palms of my hands. They were behind me waiting for a decision. I looked at them and said.

- Can you leave me alone for a little time please? I need to think over everything. - They nodded and Liz said.

- We will go back to the city and just in case get our parents out of it. - I nodded and they swam away. I tried to mind-link Damien when I heard his sad voice in my head.  

"- It is strange to be in our room without you.- I didn't know what to say at first so just kept silent for a few minutes with a heart as hard as a stone. I thought I will never be able to swim back to the surface with such a hurt heart. It will keep me down here like a stone. I took a deep breath and concentrated.

- I miss our room and I miss you Damien. 

- What happened?  I was afraid because you answered so late. - He sounded a little relieved now but I heard from the tone of his voice that he was probably making rounds in our room before I answered. 

- Sorry love, I'm tired. Things aren't going as easy as I thought.

- Do you want me to go there?

- No way. I can handle this, just take care. We will be together a little later than I hoped but we will be. - I  missed him so much. I needed him, his strength, power,  respect commanding voice. I needed advice from him now more than ever but I also didn't want him to worry too much and do something dangerous.To be honest I was more calm if he was far from me now.  He sighed and said.

- Okay, but you must take care too. Frankie I love you so much.

- I love you too Damien. Good night! - I sat alone in the edge of the cliff looking to the direction on the surface. I always wanted to be part of this world too, I wanted to know my past , to know who I was. I dreamed about this until I met Damien. He gave a whole new meaning of the word "life" , he was my life, our adventures together now meant the world for me. I missed him so damn much. I stood up and suddenly someone threw a net on me and pulled me to down to the ditch. I got frustrated and felt how my power came over me. My beautiful mermaid look was gone, instead of that now I had my grey skin with blue veins, large claws and fangs. I felt how my eyes turned into neon purple and how the spiked grew out of my spine. I cut the net with my claws and screamed at my attackers. They tried to cover their ears, that was the first moment when I saw them. They were three young mermen , one of them was a redhead with green tail, the other had brown hair and black tail while the third and youngest had black hair and red tail. I stopped screaming and they opened their eyes. When those innocent eyes looked at me with fear I started to calm down a little until I felt an immense pain in my right shoulder and I heard a woman's voice shouting at the boys.

- Swim for your lives! - They started to swim as fast as they could deep down the ditch. I growled and turned around breaking the handle of the harpoon which was hit into my shoulder. My neon eyes met with a pair of hazelnut brown  eyes. Their owner was a girl in her twenties with similar height as mine. She was curvy but very beautiful and strong. Her eyes showed a little fear but more recklessness than fear. She has a long wavy brown hair with a few blonde locks of hair. Her face was heart shaped with a little wider nose from mine and her skin was white as marble. Her scales had similar color as mine and we were just staring at each other for moments that felt like hours. She was careful, prim but her eyes twinkled slyly. She concentrated and watched every little movement I made and was prepared to defend herself from a possible attack. I tried to calm down a little but the pain in my shoulder didn't let me, I reached the spike of the harpoon and pulled it out of my shoulder. Now the weapon was in my hand, not like I would need it. I threw it away and got the girl out of guard for a second so I managed to catch her throat and hold her firmly. She tried to get my hand off of her neck but all her intentions were useless. I looked into her eyes and asked her with a beautiful voice which sounded like harps at a funeral in the spring wind.

- Who the f**k are you?! - That moment Liz and Cameron appeared behind the girl and Cam shouted.

- Frankie! Let her go! - I stared at her and she hesitated for a second when she saw my monster like face. I turned my attention back to the girl who said with a harsh voice.

- So you are the bastard the legendary outcast princess? - I growled , I didn't like my new title at all, it caused already more trouble to me than joy. I snarled at the girl and asked her again.

- Who the f**k are you? - I tightened a little my hold on her neck before I let her answer.

- My name is Kilie, I'm the leader of the outcasts of how we like to call ourselves, "Rebels". - I let her out of my hold and she tired to get back her breath. Cameron swam to her side and I lifter Kilie's cheek with my claws paying attention not to cut her. When our eyes met again I said.

- So we are at the same side. But I won't care about who you are if you will attack me again, you are a dead person. Was I clear? - She frowned at me , I knew already that this chick is a though cookie and she doesn't like to be controlled or that someone tells her what to do, but now she bowed a little her head and said.

- Yes. - My face turned back to normal and my claws grew into nails again, although the rest of my appearance remained the same, I extended my hand to her and she squeezed it.

- Welcome home! - Kilie said with a big grin and I smirked at her. This won't be an easy friendship I could tell already...
