Chapter 20
Lila
I looked up as all the adults ran over to Pike. My dads stayed with me and restrained me from getting closer. A woman I didn't know turned to me. "Did anything out of the ordinary happen on the way here?" I shook my head no. " He said he was tired and that making two portals would be really draining and he would need to sleep." The pretty mocha tones woman nodded. She turned to the others. "He's not dead . He's drained. I know what to do. Help me carry him to the infirmary." Two men picked him up and followed her. I turned to my dad. "Go ahead Elderin." I heard someone say. We took off after them. I felt so conflicted. I probably was moving too fast in forgiving Pike but I didn't sense he was lying and I didn't want him to be hurt. I'm a softie. I hope it won't be my downfall one day.
I watch as they lay Pike on a gurnie and hook him up to some machines. "He hates needles." I mumble. No one hears me and they keep working. "Heartbeats faint but steady." Someone says. "We need some fyrmie." Someone else says. Fyrmie. I know the word. If I remember its something witches and fae use when their magick is low. "Dad. That replenishes magick right?" He smiles down at me but its Daddy J who answers. "In a sense. When they get low on magick it affects them as wolfbane would us. They get lethargic and can't defend themselves. It leaves them in a vulnerable state and severe enough they could die." I felt a tear escape my eye. "Is Pike going to.." I trailed off. "No.Look at the monitor. " I glanced to where both my dads pointed. I could fee the orange fluid going down the IV line into Pikes veins, but more importantly, I could see the things that indicate he is alive increasing. He would be ok I hopped. It would be nice to be on good terms with my only remaining blood relative. "His wolf is keeping him stable. He will be fine. Nice to see you are back home or close enough to it." That voice again. "Who are you?" I asked. "You will know in due time. For now enjoy being back with your family. Practice with fire when you return home. The time will come when you need it and when we will meet." I mulled over their words while I watched them work on Pike. I just wanted my brother then my family would be complete.

I looked at the clock. Lila usually isn't this late for breakfast, then again I'm sure she was drained from yesterday. The amount of control she exhibited so quickly was amazing. I have never seen anything like it. If I didn't know any better,no that's impossible. Although it would be amazing, truly amazing, it definitely is not a possibility. I sighed. I didn't want to rush her but I was so anxious for her to unlock her full potential. It also doesn't hurt that she doesn't seem to have an aversion to being here. In time I think I can win her to my side. Orphans need love. She wasn't with those wolves long enough to forge a true bond and something about her nags at me. It's like I need to be around her. I'm unsure if its for protection or what the nature is but I know she needs to be kept close. Before going to check on her I decided to go to the clinic and ask a few questions.
I reach the lab in no-time and it's busy as usual. I grab the first worker I see. Ga'Atoria. She will do. "Is there any other news of Lila's results? " She smiles at me. "Give me a few moments to check sir and I will let you know. She points at an open door. "If you'll please wait in there we can discuss them in private momentarily. I nod and head into the the small office. Another orphan, but this one was of her own making. I will never understand the entire story of how she killed her parents but wasn't punished. They had to have been abusive or otherwise negligent. It was a very interesting story indeed but somehow she escaped prosecution and was sent to a new forest to be raised, ours. Like me she was somewhat of an outcast. I looked around the office while I waited. Very minimalist. No pictures of family or any real personal touches besides the color scheme. I sat in silence until she came back in and sat at her desk. She looked straight at me, excitement evident in her eyes. "Damien this is quite a find. You just have to let me do a few harmless experiments on her. " The confusion must have been evident ."You didn't know? Oh Damien you are gifted. Only you would find a witch, wolf, fae hybrid without trying. Of course you know what this means. Please let me do a little testing. Nothing too invasive and she won't be harmed or in pain. I truly would just like to see which is her most dominant set of genes. I mean one would assume with since that is how she presents but it is also how she was raised. If no one knew her other abilities were never given the chance to be nourished." I held up a hand. "Would she be more powerful than a wisp?" Ga'Atoria looked deep in thought. "A lot would depend on the individuals and how much training they had devoted to perfecting their abilities or powers. Whatever they call them. Raw talent would go to the wisp as they are meant to exist. You know how things go with hybrids and mutated sorts. Everything would come down to guidance and training. " I stood up. "Thank you very much Ga'Atoria. Expect a bonus coming soon." I rushed towards Lila's room , ready to get to work on molding her to perfection.
