Chapter 7: Choices

1455 Words
Scarlet's P.O.V I'm currently sitting a revolting prison cell that smells like the inside of a sewer. All those documentaries and tv shows that showed prison as a claustrophobic room that sucks the life out of you, were right.  It's been a couple of hours and thankfully they gave me some water to clear my head. It didn't help that I'm with Poppy and four other inmates, who all look like they murdered some one. I swear one has a thing for me or something because she's just sat next me, staring.  I try to move closer to Poppy but it's really hard as we're all cramped into a single bench. I haven't heard much from the officers, so I don't know what's going to happen to us.  Of course I got my phone call and I had no choice but to call my parents. Let's just say they weren't really happy to have to drive all the way to London from Manchester to bail out their daughter currently in prison for taking drugs. They did some tests on us which revealed the drugs in our system and searched all of us so they found the remaining spliffs. The boys are all in a different cell and as far as I know the only people who have left is Jordan, who didn't have any in his system, and Adam and Josh, who's brothers bailed them out. I would have called Alison but the bail was set at £500 and I knew that she didn't have that kind of money.  I heard keys jangling and the door creaked open. "Poppy Levitt and Scarlet Reynolds." I stood up and nearly fell down due to my legs falling asleep from being sat down so long.  As I walked over to Poppy and the officer, I felt a harsh slap on my butt. I turned around and the prisoner who sat beside me winked. Disgusted, I shook it off and walked out of the cell. We walked into the main entrance and recognised my mother's familiar blonde curls and the dark brown hair I inherited from my father. It's been months since I've seen them and I hate that we have to meet under these circumstances. I strive for their approval, especially my father's. What can I say, I'm a daddy's girl.  They turned around and I saw the disappointment in their faces. I walked up to them and looked down, like a child being scolded. "Mum, dad I'm sorry. I don't mean for this to happen it was just meant to be some reckless fun, you know. We didn't mean for this to happen." "I don't care if you were just having fun. Do what it's like being called at one o'clock in the morning and being told that your daughter and niece were arrested for drugs?" My mum screamed. Everyone around was staring at us and my cheeks started to turn red in embarrassment. "I'm sorry, mum." "I'm sorry auntie Carly." We both said at the same time. She was about to carry on her rant when a police officer interrupted her and I was thankful. "Mr and Mrs Reynolds you're free to take you're daughter and niece."  My mum grabbed my wrist and dragged me out. I watched as Poppy ran off to Josh who waiting patiently for her and it reminded me of something. "Wait, What about Noah?" My mum looked at me with sympathetic eyes whilst my dad's grew with anger.  My dad never liked any boy I dated but for some reason he hated Noah more. He thought that Noah was bad for me and refused to meet with him. I tried multiple times to get them both in the same room but their hatred is mutual so Noah refused to meet him too. "What about him? He got you and himself into this mess, so can get himself out." My dad sneered and took my other hand pulling me too the car.  "Daddy, please. He's my boyfriend and I love him." I begged. "Love. Scarlet, you don't know anything about love. You're too young." He continued to drag me and my arm started to ache.  "Daddy, stop please you're hurting me." It seemed to get through to him because he let go of my arm and turned to face me. He sighed and I watched my mum hold his hand for comfort.  "Scar, look what he did. What kind of boyfriend gets his girlfriend put in prison?" I knew I was slowly getting through to him because he used the nickname he gave me when I was two.  "It was my choice. I agreed dad. I wanted to do it, to have fun. Please, dad. He doesn't have anyone else." I pouted a bit and looked at him with doe eyes. I knew he couldn't resist the face I've been doing since I was four. This face got me anything I wanted from a new toy to a car. "Fine, I'll bail him out. Wait here." He ran back into the building, leaving me and my mum alone. I could see right through her act the police station. She only acted angry to please my dad. My mum was like a sister to me. She always encouraged me to do what I want and to have fun. "I'm so proud of you. My baby got high for the first time." She said as she pulled me into a hug and I noticed tears welling up in her eyes. "Mum, I can't believe you're seriously crying over this."  "Hey, you're growing up. It's making me feel old." She wiped some of the fallen tears off her cheeks. "You're not old mum. Still hot." It was true. My mum is only 37 and my dad is 39. I was what you call an 'accident'. A teenage pregnancy scandal which drove my mum's family to disown her. Her life has been really hard but nevertheless she's the most positive person I know. Ten minutes later, my father walks out with Noah trailing behind. I run up at jump on him. He stumbled back slightly, but quickly regained his balance and held me tightly. I pressed my lips to his and slips his tongue into my mouth. I realised how much I missed his touch. My dad coughs loudly and I break the kiss apart. He slowly lowers me to the ground and holds my hand. I pull him towards my parents and we all just stand there in an awkward silence.  I nudge Noah slightly, signalling him to help me. "I'll pay you back as soon as I can." He says and my father just continues to give him the death stare.  "Scarlet, get in the car we are leaving." My father finally says. "Dad, what do you mean? My apartment is only like ten minutes away from here." "You don't have class until next week, so me and your mother decided that your gonna come home and stay with us for a couple of days." " Dad, you can't just decide to take me away whenever you want. I'm 19, not 8." My dad gave me a look that dared me to defy him and I just crossed my arms across my chest, to show him I'm not backing down. "Scarlet, we are leaving and you are never going to see him again." My dad spat as he pointed at Noah. I saw Noah walk forward towards my dad and I put my hand out to keep him back. "Dad, I'm with Noah whoever you like it or not. You can't just tell me to break up with someone ." "Fine then, choose." He said. I was so confused as to what he meant. "Me and your mum or Noah. If you choose Noah, you are no longer welcome in our home and I won't consider you as my daughter." My dad said, his eyes void emotion. "Ethan!" I heard my mum exclaim. I stumbled back into Noah's arms. I couldn't believe what I was hearing. The one thing I was sure of in my life was that I would always have my parents by my side. I couldn't choose between the two, it was virtually impossible. I loved them both. "I can't believe you're doing this to her." Noah shouted. "If you really cared about her, you wouldn't do this."  "Don't tell me what is best for my daughter! You're toxic for her. Before she was with you she was my little girl and I now I hardly recognise her." Every word my dad said was like a little dagger to my heart. I didn't know what to do. "It's okay baby. You can go with them. They won't keep us apart." He whispered and tears fell out of my eyes as I realised what I about to do. I stepped forward and looked my dad in the eye. "I choose Noah then."
