It was strange to go to sleep in Aleks’ tent - it wasn’t too different to the one I had used for years, and when I woke up to the sounds and smells of other people outside my heart raced and I felt a jolt of fear. I lay there for the longest time as the smell of people cooking breakfast and the sounds of the group packing things up ready to leave surrounded me, but it took a long time for it to hit me that these were different people and I was not going to have to face Luc or Gaella when I emerged.
