Chapter 1 - Herbs and party drinks.

Serina Walking along the woodland watching the emerald green trees swaying in the wind made me feel at ease. The grey clouds looming overhead served as a gentle reminder that I should be quick with my herb gathering for today. My mother insisted that I gathered them today, as we needed them for charms, spells, potions, and so on. The forest was abundant as always, so I picked some black cohosh, and a bit of Mugwort. I retreated away from all of the herbs looking for a way back, as that was all I came here for. I looked at the sky, as the clouds rumbled, signaling that it was time for me to return home. I walked back through the path along the forest, when suddenly I heard a crack behind me, as if someone had stepped on a dry branch, but when I turned to look, there was no indication that anyone was there. Huh. Strange. Must have been a small woodland creature. I shrugged it off, and left it at that. The end of the woodland came into view, I saw the main road that led back to town. I followed the road, walking back to town, when I found myself humming, as the weather grew angrier. Thunder rumbled in the clouds above, turning my walk into a sprint. I was finally back in town, nearing my house almost just in time, because as soon as I stepped foot inside my house the rain started to pour. “Hello dear, welcome back, did you bring me those herbs I asked for?” My mother inquired. “Yes mom, here they are.” I lifted my arms, and presented her the basket. She took the basket with a smile, thanking me and giving some to me for later use. “Hey mom…?” I trailed off hoping she would say yes to what I was about to ask her. “Yes, sweety what is it?” She asked in a soft tone, making me even more nervous. “So, the Harvest Moon dance is tonight, and… I was wondering if I could go?” I looked at her hoping for a positive answer. “Well, of course you can. Just be home by midnight.” I squealed in joy and hugged her. “Thank you, mom!” She nodded, smiling, when she turned to leave. I walked back towards my room, and decided on what I should wear to the dance. I decided to wear a beautiful red and black dress, with matching heels, and a silver necklace that had a butterfly pendant which I enchanted with protection. You should never be too careful. I arrived at the dance looking for my best friend Ronan. That was when I finally spotted him. He waved at me, and beckoned me to come over. “Oh my gosh you look stunning Rina!” I smiled at his use of a nickname for me. “You don’t look too bad yourself Rony” He glared at me for the use of his nickname, which had me giggling uncontrollably. We walked into the club as today was my birthday, and I had just turned eighteen, which was the legal age here. Ronan and I walked up to the bar ordering ourselves some fairy’s blood. It wasn’t really fairy blood, the drink was simply just a golden and glittery colour, and it glowed brightly in my hands. We both took a sip of our drinks, as we sat on the barstools, while we waited for our other friends to join as well. They had arrived shortly after we were on our third drink each, and we ordered more. “Serina, you look beautiful tonight.” Axel, one of our other friends stated, making me blush. He scratched the back of his raven-coloured hair in embarrassment, making me giggle. “You look quite dashing as well, Axel.” I replied, smiling softly. I was pulled onto the dance floor by Jess, which left Ronan and Axel to their own devices. Jess and I danced, our eyes were closed as we felt the vibrations of the rhythm of the music, it sounded ethereal. Euphoria took over me as the drinks caught up with me, and by the look on my friend’s faces, they were having fun too. We all danced close to each other so as to not lose sight of anyone, Axel and I were dancing closer to each other, and Jess and Ronan were also paired up. Jess came up to me, tapping my shoulder as Alex was busy holding my hips while we swayed to the music. “Hey Rina… I think that smoking hot guy is eyeing you.” I turned and looked to where she had pointed. A tall, well-built, raven-haired guy was staring at me like I was prey, he had tattoos that ran down his arms, leaving room for my imagination to wander, sending shivers down my spine. I stared in disbelief. “No? He is definitely staring at someone else!” I said, trying to convince myself more than I wanted to convince her. She looked at me skeptically before shrugging. “Okay fine! Let me go ask him then.” I tried stopping her, but she looked back with an evil grin, oh it was on! I watched her blonde hair sway loosely as she approached the random guy. He looked like trouble. I stared nervously as I watched her whisper something into his ears, making him smirk. Oh, she was so dead for this! She returned to our group, the guy looking past her towards me. “Go over to him! He said he wanted to spend some time getting to know you!” She winked at me, which caused me to roll my eyes at her. I shook my head, and looked back at her with a glare as I decided to approach the stranger. As I approached him, I got even more nervous than I had previously been. I finally reached him, and his grin had widened. “Well, hello there miss, you look quite radiating tonight.” He smiled as he stood up and took my hand, placing a kiss on top of it, which made me blush. “Thank you, Mister…?” I asked, not really sure what to call him. “You can just call me Wayne.” He stated, smiling, before letting go of my hand. “Could I offer you a drink?” he gestured towards the bar as he sat me down in his booth. I believe it was a VIP booth. It cost a fortune! “I would like that, thanks Wayne.” I said quietly, as I was still a bit nervous. He nodded before beckoning over the waiter, ordering the both of us a couple more drinks. The waiter came back shortly after Wayne and I had gotten to know each other better. Everything was going wonderfully. We talked, and he suddenly leaned in closer. I was taken aback before I found myself doing the same, the alcohol driving my senses, as we both closed our eyes. Our lips met in a heated kiss before I felt something sharp pinch my thigh. “Sorry princess, I’ll see you soon yeah?” I tried screaming for help as realization hit me, but I felt myself getting tired, my vision had turned black, and I felt my conscience fade away.
