He had an uncomfortable feeling that her husband might just appear at any moment and cause a scene. “Except for my dinner party, at which there were eleven other people,” Isabel Brompton replied, “but there was no one I wanted to dance with as much as I want to ‒ dance with you.” There was a slight hesitation before she said the word ‘dance’. Talbot knew exactly what she was asking for. It occurred to him that there might be no one in Scotland who would attract him in the same way that Isabel did.
