His Only Reward **Completed and Free**

Chapter 35: Starlight Barrier*

“WHAT THE f**k WERE YOU ALL THINKING?” Raoul roared, “I LEAVE FOR THREE DAYS AND NOW SHE IS ON DEATH’S DOOR AGAIN!”

Raoul had come back that day expecting to be greeted by a happy mate. He had wanted to complete the bonding process, as he felt they were both ready. The prospect of this had made the last three days Torturously slow, but he Had to meet the King of Thieves. War was coming and he need to make allies with the dark side of Riverswell. But the King of Thieves was not having any of it.

Instead of a happy mate, he was greeted by a pale looking Sam and Weeping Bella. Instantly, Raoul felt something was wrong and he rushed up to his bedroom. There he saw Jamie lying unconscious on the bed with Dion casting powerful healing spells over her. Jamie was extremely pale and her veins around her neck and shoulders had turned black.

“What the f**k has happened to her?” He shouted. Sam came running through the door. Raoul grabbed him by the neck and lifted him off the floor. “You have thirty seconds to explain exactly what happened to my mate before I crush your windpipe,” Raoul said dangerously. Sam was going purple and gasping.

“Jamie would be really upset if you kill Sam after she just saved him!” Dion pointed out. 

Raoul growled and had let Sam go. Dion had then explained about the challenge and the attack on Sam. How Jamie had pushed Sam out the way of a knife aimed at his heart. “Unfortunately, the knife had Poison on it. There was enough Batrachotoxin to kill twenty men on the blade!” Dion explained. Batrachotoxin was a rare poison that was collected from the skin of poisonous frogs. It was incredibly strong and was used by assassins because of its extremely high death rate. 

It was at that point Raoul had started shouting. “I am so sorry Alpha, it should have been me. She pushed me out of the way at the last minute!” Sam said in a voice full of sorrow and pain. It was clear he had been tearing himself apart since it happened.

“All of you leave!“ Snapped Raoul.

“There is still a chance Raoul, she is much stronger than we know,” Dion said softly. “She is fighting it!”

“Leave now!” Raoul said firmly. Everyone left and Raoul carefully laid down next to Jamie. He grabbed her in his arms and pulled her into his body. He then proceeded to weep into her shoulder. “Please, don’t leave me, Kitten. Keep fighting!” he sobbed.

Starlight Barrier, Realm of the Gods

Jamie opened her eyes and was almost blinded by a pulsating white light. “Sweet Chaos, what is that?” She muttered

“It is the Chaos Starlight Barrier. You are back in the Realm of the Gods!” Amaethon mind-linked.

Jamie turned her head away from the barrier. “What are you doing here Amaethon? It is normally Fluff that guides me home.” She asked.

Amaethon used his back hind leg to scratch an ear, “Well yes, but it was my turn. I can’t let Fluff have all the fun, can I? Besides this is more my territory. I spelled you so you are not blinded by the light, you are welcome by the way!” He replied.

“What do you mean by more my territory?” Jamie asked.

“You are on a battlefield in fact I am surprised you have not been spotted already. Very lax if you asked me! Oh, here we go!” Amathone replied.

“Stand up slowly and turn to face me. Do not make any sudden moves unless you want to return to the chaos source” A low male said

Jamie turned around and slowly with her hands up. She saw two soldiers dressed in full battle Armor, one holding a battle spear and the other a broadsword, both pointed directly at her.

“These demons disguises are getting better you know Kane,” said the soldier 

“I know Able, most impressive!” commented Kane

“Look, guys, I am not a demon!“ Jamie said.

“Well, that is exactly what a demon would say, isn’t it?” Kane pointed. out. Jamie could feel Amaethon mentally roll his eyes and said, “We got a pair of geniuses here, watch out!”

Jamie burst out laughing and the two soldiers looked stunned. “Do demons laugh Kane?” Able asked.

“Not sure to be honest mate. One thing is sure we should take her and her little dog to the general” Kane decided. Amaethon growled “Little dog! I am a direct descendent from Anubis himself!”

“Calm down Amaethon, let’s not force them into doing anything stupid!” Jamie said. Jamie could call on elemental powers, but she was here for a reason and she wanted to find out what it is.

Kane and Able pointed the direction in which they wanted her and Amaethon to walk. She sighed and walked in front of the two soldiers.

After about half an hour, Jamie was glad to see a military camp. The constant arguing of Able and Kane had got on her nerves about 20 mins ago. Jamie felt her skin tingle as she went past some barrier spells.

 “Impressive. Those are some serious chaos repelling protection spells there!” Amaethon said. Jamie trusted his opinion, Amaethon was not easily impressed. 

“Keep moving!“ Snapped Able

Jamie was marched past some military-style tents. There were some other Soldiers milling around doing various things like mending gear, playing cards or drinking tea. Some of them stop to stare at Jamie, but Amaethon growled a warning so nobody approached. Eventually, they reached a large clearing with a larger tent. There was staring at the starlight barrier with his back to Jamie and the Soldiers. He had bright white curly hair, dressed in black trousers and a black military jacket. A long broad sword hung by his side. 

“Um, General?” Said Kane nervously.

The man sighed and did not turn around. “What is it now, Private?” He said with an impatient voice. Jamie smiled, the man obviously was tired of soldiers arguing as well. 

“Well, we were doing our rounds we were,” Said Kane.

“This would interest me how?” The man said still staring at the barrier.

“We came across this Demon in disguise with a strange dog!” Able said.

“For the last time, I am not a Demon in disguise!” Jamie said exasperated.

The man quickly turned around and looked at Jamie. He said, “It can’t be! How can you be here?” 

“Sorry, do I know you?” Jamie asked confused.

The man walked over and grabbed Jamie’s hand and brought it to his lips. Jamie was shocked as he kissed it. “I know you very well Princess, my name is Lux. I am glad that you liked the Assassin’s ring we got you, I trust it has been useful? I must say we were all so proud of how you destroyed the forces of Chaos at the Ball. Because of your actions, you made our job so much easier, sweetheart!” Lux said with a smile.

Jamie snatched her hand back and snapped, “I don’t know what you are playing at, but you need to stop now!”

Lux sighed and said, “ Dam that Crone for taking your memories. Please tell me that you have not been hurt by these idiots!”

“Only my ears have been hurt by their constant arguments!“ Jamie trumpet.

Lux laughed and said, “ I am glad you still have a sense of humour! How I have missed it! Kane and Able, please inform the other 3 Generals that I request their presence immediately, as we have a very special guest!”

Kane and Able ran off. Lux turned to Amaethon and said “Ah, you must be Amaethon, one of Jamie’s guardians. I have met Fluff, but I must say you do look like Anubis!”

Before Amaethon could answer, there was a black shimmer and a very tall man appeared. “Lux, why did you send me that imbecile with a message to met you?”

“Oh, I don’t know Edward, maybe because she is here!” Lux snapped. 

Edward turned and saw Jamie. “What! Jamie, what are you doing here?” Edward ran and was going to give Jamie a bear hug. However, Jamie had other ideas and quickly lifted her knee into Edward’s groin. “Do not touch me, you pervert!”She growled.

Edward fell to the ground his hands over his groin area. “Sweet chaos!” He groaned, “ I don’t know if I should be proud or not Jamie. You sure have remembered what I have taught you!” 

Lux chuckled as another shimmer appeared. A man with long black hair smiled and said, “Hello Jamie, keeping your bow up I hope!”

“Greetings, Harper,” said Lux. “ See Edward, that is how you should act when confronted with a lady!”

“f**k off Lux, I don’t need you to add salt into the wound. Where is Richard? I thought he be here by now!” Edward said as he was got up.

“Who is this Richard everyone keeps talking about?“ Jamie asked, remembering Hakan had mentioned the same name. Suddenly, another black shimmer appeared with a dirty blond-haired man with periwinkle blue eyes. He looked annoyed “Lux I was busy...” Richard said.

Jamie gasped at how handsome the man was, she had butterflies in her stomach and her heart was racing. “Why was is my body reacting like this?” Jamie thought confused.

Richard saw Jamie and rushed over. “ Princess, what are you doing here? It is not time for you yet to be here!” Richard said and he threw his arms around her. Instead of struggling, Jamie’s body naturally relaxed.

“Oh, so he doesn’t get a knee on the groin then, typical!” complained Edward.

“Slightly different situation I think Edward. I mean, Richard is Jamie’s mate after all!” said Lux simply.

“No! That can’t be, because Raoul is my Mate, I am the Luna of Wolf Moon pack!” Jamie said. 

She felt Richard’s body stiffen. “You are my fated Mate, Jamie! I will be by your side soon and we will work it out. But believe me when I say, that I won’t be letting you go!” Richard said gruffly and then kissed Jamie on the forehead tenderly. The kiss sent shock waves down her spine. Richard chuckled as he could obviously hear her breathing change. “See Princess, you might not remember me but your body does!” Richard whispered. Jamie blushed with embarrassment. “Don’t be embarrassed, my Love! Now, tell me how you got here.” Richard ordered.

“That part is easy, she stupidly pushed the Beta Sam out of the way of a poisoned knife. It landed in her shoulder and her soul must have been separated. Her subconscious must have brought her here to her Mate. Well, that Is my educated guess anyway!” Amaethon mindlinked.

“You did what?” Shouted Richard

“You can hear him?” Asked Jamie shocked. She thought only she could hear her animal friends.

“Only when he wants us to Princess, remember he is a child of the Gods of Dogs.” Lux explained and added silently, “As you are the only child of the high Gods.”

“That does not matter right now. How could you be so stupid? They are supposed to protect you until we get there. You need to be more careful!” Snapped Richard.

“They are my friends and I love Raoul, I could not let his best friend die like that!” Jamie snapped, who was he to tell her how to live her life.

Richard cupped her face with his hands and his eyes turned black. “If you die because of them I will personally rip every one of them apart. Do you understand me?” Richard's voice boomed.

Jamie gasped and took a step back. She grabbed her Matantur and willed it into a Broadsword “No one was going to threatened my friends like that!” She thought.

“Well, that escalated quickly!“ Edward remarked.

“Doesn’t it always with them?” Answered Lux with a sigh.

“I would humbly suggest you stop being such a huge c**k, Richard. You are scaring her, which is not what you want.“ Edward said.

“f**k you, Edward! They are supposed to protect her!” Snarled Richard.

“Time is running out!” Amaethon announced. “Her body is starting to miss its soul.”

Richard’s eyes suddenly turned Blue again and he raised his hands in a sign of surrender. “I am sorry Princess, but please understand how important you are to us!”

Jamie willed her Matantur back into its original shape and nodded. 

“ Listen very carefully Jamie,” Lux said hurriedly, “You dealt a severe blow to the Empress when you stop Nervinda at the Ball. But, the Empress of Chaos is now concentrating her efforts in your Realm. The more influence she has in your world, the more powerful she becomes here. At the moment she is weak, so we have been able to repair the holes in the barrier much faster than we originally thought. But, she will make her move and you must be prepared for the upcoming war. You must get the King of Rogues on the side!”

Jamie suddenly screamed as she felt a pain in her heart. She collapsed and Richard caught her in her arms. 

“ Her heart has stopped, Dion is trying to restart it we have to go now!” Amathone said 

“I love you, Princess, I promise I see you soon!” Richard said softly. Jamie faded until his arms were left empty once more.
