AMERY’S POV
“Amery…” His sweet toned voice cooed into my ear, hot minty breaths teasing and igniting tingles down my spine.
I wanted to listen to that voice forever.
“Amery…wake up.”
His touch was gentle, even more soothing than his alluring voice. My whole body was engulfed in warmth, tranquil, and instead of trying to figure out who it was, I snuggled deeper and deeper into the surprisingly hard pillow.
Nonetheless, I smiled in contentment.
That was until the ‘pillow’ gave out a low sexy chuckle. It vibrated softly and something akin to wild butterflies danced in my belly.
But…pillows don’t laugh. Neither do they pull you closer by your waist and bury their faces into your neck.
“You’re drooling on my body, Amery.” He whispered, lightly tracing his lips and my eyes flung open instantly. Every memory from the last few hours rushed back in.
My boyfriend cheating. Suspended. Three gorgeous boys. Two guys turning to wolves!
The crippling fear returned and I jolted away from him, momentarily hating the disappointment that I felt without the warmth his body offered.
What the hell had happened? Last thing I could remember was me escaping from the mysterious brothers and running until I fell.
Right, I fell.
Immediately, my eyes shot to the familiar man laid back on the bed beside me. His light green eyes sparkled with interest, a breathtaking smile stuck on his lips.
Asher.
He was shirtless, rippling with perfectly toned muscles and tight abs.
“Oh my god, did you rape me? Why am I on the bed with you? I feel defiled by a monster!” Frantically, my hand roamed over my body for any signs and my eyes darted across every inch of the unfamiliar room.
Concern took over his features. He sat up and reached out a hand to me, but I flinched far away, as if avoiding a snake.
“Hey, Amery, calm down. I did not rape you — what the f**k? I would never hurt what’s mine. Just calm down for a second. You passed out.” He sounded sincere . Too damn sincere. It had to be those eyes — beautiful convincing eyes.
I watched him as he cautiously drew closer to me, until he was close enough to count the freckles littered on my cheeks. He offered a small charming smile.
“I understand that you’re confused and scared but I swear, I’m here to fix that. Everything you witnessed is perfectly normal.”
“Y-you turned into a wolf. Call me crazy, but here on planet earth, that’s the opposite of normal. It’s…it’s criminal!” I glared, my brows furrowed. I was seriously questioning my sanity at this point.
He laughed, sweet and calming. Asher brushed away a hair that fell over my eyes. This time, I didn’t flinch.
“You’re so beautiful with that fire in your eyes. Adorable little human.”
What?
I frowned, then glared. “How is that the point? I want answers. What do you want from me? Why did you and your animal friends kidnap me? Why don’t you have a shirt on?” The last was a valid question.
My eyes kept on wandering down to places they didn’t belong. I could hardly concentrate. Everything about having him this close messed with my head.
Asher’s gaze grew mischievous and he smirked. “Admit it, you love me without the shirt. You were drooling after all.”
My cheeks burned and traitorously, I glanced over at the hardness of his chest one more time. His little smile only grew smug by the second. Cocky bastard.
I reinforced my glare.
“You’re in no place to be teasing right now. You have me kidnapped, remember? Tell me, why am I really here? Why was your brother trying to bite me? How are you an animal and also…human?”
“You’re pretty bold for a girl who just saw a werewolf for the first time. I’m impressed.” He finally backed up from me and got off the bed. “Maybe you hit your head that badly to not sense the danger in all of this.”
Goosebumps touched my skin. I was scared. Scared shitless. But for some reason, I was taking this…well? Like a part of me I never knew existed embraced all of it. This madness. These boys. Their wolves.
“That’s not an answer.”
“You are tired and injured now.” He replied instead, concern flickering through his gaze. “And I don’t want to overwhelm you. Let’s get your wounds treated first.”
“I-“
“I’ll answer all of your questions later.” He cut me off with a charming smile. “For now, you’re just going to have to trust an absolute stranger, Amery. Can you do that for me?”
My body aches from the fall. Refusing his help would be stupid. Even stupider than trusting him. Locked in some kind of spell, our gazes fixed on each other, I nodded in acceptance. Slowly. Hesitantly.
“I don’t have much of a choice. I’ll pick the devil I know over whatever demon your brother is.”
Asher chuckled. “Levi is a temperamental asshole. But don’t worry, he can’t get you here. You’re with me now. I’m your noble protector.” He winked.
I went red and seeing as the only guy I’ve ever seen give me attention was Sean, I had no idea how to react to Asher in all his flirty glory. He was charming still, devilishly handsome but that cockiness would be the death of him.
He left the room to what I assumed was the bathroom. I used that opportunity to observe the exquisite decor in this room. It felt like it was built specifically for royalty.
My thoughts were interrupted by the sound of the door letting out a squeak, revealing Asher. As he walked towards me, he had a towel hung around his neck, a bowl of water in his hands.
“Come here,” he said, gently kneeling in front of me and placing the bowl of water next to me on the bed. “Your arms are bruised, aren’t they? Let me see that.”
I didn’t hesitate to stretch my arm towards him, having him immediately hold them. At his touch, I immediately flinched, probably from the coldness of his hands and the unexplainable spark that it ignited in my body.
I swallowed, watching him gently have his fingers brush my skin. Just like he said, I had quite a number of bruises on my arms but at that moment, my whole attention was fixed on him. In his eyes.
Green. Hypnotic. Beautiful.
“Does it hurt?”
“What?” I blinked in confusion.
Asher rose a brow in amusement. “Amery, your arm. Does it hurt?”
Quickly, I shifted my gaze to my arms, realizing he was pointing at a fresh cut on my arm with traces of blood on it.
“Oh. Yes, it does. A little.”
“You shouldn’t have ran like that in the woods,” he muttered, touching the bruise and having me flinch again, though I couldn’t quite figure out why. “It’s dangerous out there, you know. We aren’t the only creatures. Why did you do it?”
“Your brother was going to kill me. Was I supposed to sit back and enjoy the show? I was scared.” I mumbled the last part.
At that moment, he stopped attending to my wounds, his fingers moving to hold my hands and squeeze them gently. Having his thumb draw slow circles around my hand, a certain rawness filled his eyes.
“You don’t have to be scared of us. We are not your enemies,” he breathed out. “All of these are still so strange to you, aren't they?”
I nodded.
“Alright then,” he raised his body to take a seat next to mine. “If you promise not to scream or run or do anything Amery-worthy, then I’d explain it all to you.”
Amery worthy? I wanted to frown and question what the hell that meant. Instead, I found myself nodding eagerly, curious as hell.
“I am a werewolf. Levi is a werewolf. Quincy is a werewolf,” he began and though I already knew that, I somehow still found myself surprised. “And so are you.”
“No, I’m not.” I frowned. “I’m human. Can’t you see? I’m totally a human; no sharp teeth, no fur, and definitely not an animal like you people.”
“Your parents have a lot of explaining to do to have led you on this long.” He shook his head. “Well, I look completely human at the moment too, don’t I? And it’s more than being just an animal. We are a pack with real lives just like you. Infact, some might say that we are the better version of those pea-brained humans.”
At my quick glare, he laughed then continued.
“You are a werewolf, Amery, and maybe you haven’t agreed or aren’t ready to believe it at the moment but it is what you are. You’ve been lied to your whole life.”
My heart shattered because nothing was making sense. I was human! My parents would never lie to me. They were human too. It wasn’t possible. Asher was lying. He had to be.
“How did you know that then?” I asked, my voice filled with accusation and an anger he didn’t deserve. “If I’m truly what you think, how did I not know it my whole life? Why are you the ones telling me something about myself?”
“There are a lot of reasons you would be in denial,” he replied. “But trust me. Even without us, you were going to know it anyway. Sooner or later, you were going to wolf out, so isn’t it better we’re giving you a kind of heads up?”
I shook my head, everything slowly becoming too much for me to process at once. “Alright, let’s say I’m truly that, what does that have to do with you?”
“It has everything to do with me, cause you’re my mate.” He said it so calmly, like it answered all my questions and yet. It didn’t.
Mate. It was the second time I was hearing it and it still managed to make absolutely no sense to me.
“Mate?”
“Mates are like wolves' soul mates,” he explained to me. “Compared to humans, we can’t just be with anyone. Our partners are given to us by the moon goddess and when we lay our eyes on them, we are automatically able to tell they belong to us. There’s an unexplainable bond we feel towards them that just makes everything right at that moment. I feel it whenever I look into your eyes.”
He held my gaze intently and something hot and electrifying swirled between us.
“Oh?” It was all suddenly making sense.
“And like I said, you are my mate, Amery. Not just mine, but my brother’s as well. For some f****d up reason, we are all mated to you.” He groaned. “We all felt it in our wolves when we were in the woods.”
I was unsure of how that newly acquired information made me feel. I had a soul mate? One that had been destined to me all along and I had absolutely no idea all these while?
Was it supposed to make as much sense as it was suddenly making?
I felt overwhelmed. It was all becoming a bit too much to take in at once.
“Amery,” he called out to me, his gorgeous smile back on his face. He must have noticed how confused I looked as he quickly adjusted his position and went back to cleaning my wounds. “You need to rest for now.”
“Um…okay, I guess.”
“Your clothes are dirty from falling twice in one day. You really love the dramatics.” He chuckled. “I need to get you cleaned up as well.”
My mind was still plunged in our earlier conversation to fully comprehend his words now.
Absent-mindedly, I let him pull me up to my feet. His fingers grazed my side as he stepped extremely close behind me, enough to intoxicate me with his addictive scent. His body was hot against mine, pressed hard enough to feel every muscle.
My breath got caught in my throat the second his fingers hooked around my soiled shirt, grazing my skin briefly before he pulled up.
“I’m going to undress you now, Amery.” His deep voice sent a delicious shiver up my spine and it felt good, until his words sank in.
What!
