Chapter 6

Pipers Point of View As soon as I got outside I went straight for my purse and grabbed my phone, I needed to get hold of Ben to give me a lift back to the Pack House. I could have run in in Wolf form but I wanted to speak to Ben about everything that had happened this evening. Having a human mate would certainly put a bit of a spanner in the works but I already new in my heart that I wouldn't be able to forsake him. The bond would grow too strong, I could already feel it taking hold of me and I was already dreading leaving him on his own to deal with that prick Logan. I couldn't believe they were related! And what did Blake mean when he had talked about him only just being out of that "s**t hole"? Had he just come out of prison? I needed Ben and a few of my guys to pay Logan a little visit, he needed to know that I was not to be messed around with and neither was Blake, nor Kal for that matter. That poor kid, crawling out onto the decking on his hands and knees, that was no way to live your teenage years. Ben picked up on the second ring. "Luna, thank the Moon Goddess for that! That t**t Michaels called about an hour ago to say that things hadn't worked out. Where have you been?" "Ben, calm down and keep breathing! I'm fine, sort of" "What's happened?" Ben demanded in a serious tone. "What's wrong?" I went through the last hour of my life with him. He laughed at the situation with my 15 year old would be mate and then almost blew my eardrum out with his roar when I told him I'd been manhandled. Our bond went deeper than Luna and Beta. We had grown up together and were very close, he did not react very well to hearing that his best friend had been assaulted. I'd be exactly the same if the tables were turned. "I'll kill him!" Ben thundered down the phone! "No you won't, you'll simply have a chat with him before you come and pick me up. It's likely that I'll be spending some time here and I don't want a repeat of this evening every time I run in to him. This town is unbelievably small. Plus by the sounds of it, he's my mates brother which means I need to give him a chance, and I won't be able to that if he's dead!" "Good point well presented! Do we know where this Logan guy lives?" "Not a clue, which will probably make your job harder than it needs to be I'm afraid." "We've got friends within the local law enforcement Luna, if he's just out of prison he won't be hard to track down. Assuming you didn't smash his ankle tag with your jimmy choos" He laughed at me, and I couldn't help but laugh back a little. It really had been an eventful evening. I looked up from my phone to find Blake, plate of cheesecake in hand, glaring down at me. I nodded towards the table letting him know he should put it down but he didn't move, he just got more impatient the longer I was on the phone. I sighed, was this really the man I was destined to spend my life with. It already seemed too complicated and I'd barely said two words to him. "B, I gotta go, call me when you get to the pier." I disconnected. "On the house" Blake said as he put the cheesecake down in front of me. "Now that's what I call a piece of cake," I said smiling. It was approximately the size of my head. I picked up the fork he placed on the table and took a huge mouthful, it was heaven. "Well I figured the condemned woman should get a decent last meal" He pointed out gruffly. "What's that supposed to mean?" I asked him a little perplexed. "You don't want to go round upsetting guys like Logan, it will come back to bite you." I couldn't be sure but I think there was a hint of concern in his voice. Although his face held it's usual cold expression. "So what? I just let him molest me?" I didn't mean to snap at him but it was such a stupid thing to say, it wasn't like I'd gone out of my way to make trouble! He sighed loudly, but didn't say anything else. "Are you open for the next hour or so? I've got someone coming to pick me up." He nodded. He really was a man of few words. I held off from rolling my eyes. I continued to eat my dessert fully expecting him to leave me to it, but he remained in place looking down at me, silent and brooding. You could cut the atmosphere between us with a knife. Eventually he grabbed the chair opposite me and threw himself into it. I had an overwhelming urge to sarcastically ask him to join me, but I didn't want him to leave. "You met my brother Kal" It wasn't a question. "Yeah he seemed really nice." I offered hoping that complimenting his brother would help my cause. Instead he looked annoyed. "He's just turned 16, he's a pretty smart kid, smarter than me anyway." He gave a self deprecating smile. It almost took my breath away. "And who's Logan to you guys?" I asked as casually as I could. My mate was like a closed book, I couldn't get a read on him. "He's a mistake my dad made a couple of decades ago." 'So he's a half brother then,' I could hear Roxy trying to put the pieces together. I was doing the same but Blake wasn't giving much away. "And he's just out of prison?" I qualified "You caught that conversation huh? Yeah he got out a week or so ago. He was in for drugs. Did six months." I put my fork down. Every single crumb of cheesecake had gone. I wiped my mouth on my napkin whilst he stared at my empty plate. "Impressive" He chuckled, and I caught sight of a dimple in his cheek. My mouth went dry. He really was very handsome. "So was the cheesecake, my compliments to the chef." I picked up my wine glass and grimaced when the liquid hit my tongue, it was bitter after the sweet dessert. My face must have amused Blake because he laughed loud and deep. The sound crashed straight into my heart and I couldn't move, I needed to hear that noise every day for the rest of my life. I couldn't believe that with one simple sound my fate was sealed. The noise stopped as suddenly as it had started. Blake crossed one leg over the other and started to pick at a hole in the ankle of his jeans. I was pretty sure he was preparing to say something. It was all I could do not to launch myself across the table and pull the words from his throat. Patience was a virtue that I didn't posses. He looked up at me green eyes blazing, and I was unexpectedly nervous. I was usually able to read people pretty well, but with him it was impossible. He leant forward and opened his mouth to say something, and in the next second he snapped it shut and the look in his eyes was gone. "You wanna beer while you wait for your lift?" I nodded and he got out of his chair. As soon as his back was turned I let my shoulders drop and put my forehead on the table. He had to be the most frustrating individual that I had ever come across. He held my attention in the palm of his hand for no good reason, and he didn't want it anyway! I lifted my head and drummed my fingernails on the glass table. How exactly was this going to work? How was I going to explain him to everyone? How was I going to explain myself to him? I checked my phone to see that Ben had located Logan and would arrive in town in the next 30 minutes. Looking towards the inside of Morgans I saw Blake strolling slowly towards me, two beer bottles casually laced through his fingers. Trying to get more than five words out of him would be excruciatingly painful, and yet at the same time 30 minutes just wasn't going to cut it for me. What on earth was I going to do?
