Prologue
Thanks for supporting my books! This is the second book in the Jungle Series. The first book is called 'Revenge : His Mysterious Werecat'
Cheyenne
I couldn't believe it when I heard the soft cry of a baby. I immediately stopped walking mid-step, then I grabbed my mate's arm and held my finger in front of my mouth to signal for him to stay quiet.
After a few seconds, I heard the cry again, but it was a little louder that time. Reese knew right away where the cry was coming from, thanks to his advanced sense of hearing. Reese was a werecat. A were-lion to be exact, and it didn't take him but a few seconds to find the crying baby.
When Reese pulled the baby out from under a bush, I was mesmerized by it's pale skin and almost white hair. The baby was wrapped in a little white blanket that had blue snowflakes decorating it, and it was absolutely adorable.
I had always wanted a baby, but I had never been able to conceive, so I saw that moment as a chance for me to finally become a mother. I was quick to take the baby from Reese, then I cradled it against my chest and softly murmured, "It's okay little sweetheart. We are going to take good care of you."
"Honey, this baby probably has parents looking for it," Reese nervously mumbled.
"We will listen for any talk of a missing baby and return it if that happens, but for now, this sweet thing needs to be loved and taken care of," I stated with an heir of authority.
Reese looked around the general vicinity for any sign of the baby's parents, then he worriedly advised, "We should get out of here. There's too many rogue scents. It's not safe."
I nodded my head in agreement, then we quietly made our way back to the cabin we lived at. It was located deep in the forest, and it was completely surrounded by trees. We had a few different types of ivy that we planted against the cabin, and it had grown so much over the years that it completely covered the outside walls.
Once we got inside, I laid the precious baby in the middle of our bed, then I walked to the kitchen and heated up a little milk. I didn't have a baby bottle, so I improvised and grabbed a medicine dropper, then I carried them back to the bedroom.
I used the dropper to feed the milk to the infant, and it seemed pleased with the flavor. When the baby stopped taking the milk, I decided to see if it was a boy or a girl, and I was not surprised to learn it was a sweet baby girl. I had a feeling that it was going to be her gender, because I could feel a witch's aura radiating off her.
While I had her unwrapped from the snowflake blanket, I found a small tattoo on her ankle that spelled the word 'Snow.' Between the tattoo and the blanket, I decided to call her Snow, then I chose Angel for her middle name, since she was as beautiful as an angel with her pale skin and white hair.
Having chosen a name and fed her, I wrapped Snow back up with the blanket, then I carried her out to the living room and happily chirped, "We shall call this sweet baby, Snow Angel Delaney."
Reese flashed me his cute smile and cheerfully replied, "That is the perfect name for a little angel baby."
"She really is perfect," I affectionately remarked, as I gazed down at Snow's beautiful dark brown eyes. They were quite the contract against her pale skin, but that just made them all the more gorgeous.
I had always loved sitting on rocking chairs, so Reese made sure we had a few scattered throughout the cabin. I carried Snow to the one near Reese, then I sat down and rocked with her in my arms.
I hated the thought of something bad happening to her parents, but us being the ones to find her was a dream come true. After years of unsuccessfully trying to have a child of our own, I had more or less given up on the idea, but there I was rocking with the most precious little baby cradled in my arms.
At that moment, I made a silent vow to always show her the love she deserved, and to keep her safe. I just had to keep her hidden from the many rogues that roamed the free territory. That was going to be the tricky part of keeping her safe, but having the cabin camouflaged would definitely work to our advantage.
I didn't have to rock for very long before Snow drifted into a peaceful state of sleep. I continued to sit there for a while and studied her cute little face. She had the chubbiest little cheeks, just like a little cherub, and she had perfect little heart-shaped lips that were naturally a light pink color.
When I finally looked away from the baby and toward Reese, he was sitting there watching us with so much love swirling in his pretty hazel eyes. His lips were curved up to form a genuine smile, and it was obvious that he liked what he was seeing.
My smile widened even more as I looked at my handsome mate, then I softly murmured, "I can't believe we were the ones to find her. I can't help but wonder if it was fate, because I'm a witch, and she's a witch."
"Are you sure? I thought she was just a human," he said with a surprised look on his face.
"Yes, I'm sure. I can feel her witch aura. You know... it's one of the perks of being a witch. We can feel each other's aura easier than others," I reminded him with a wink.
He chuckled for a few seconds, then he affectionately murmured, "You are going to be a good mom for Snow."
"I'm definitely going to try my best. I'm gonna teach her everything she needs to know about being a witch. I'll teach her how to harness each of her individual powers, as well as the art of casting spells and doing other cool witchy things," I excitedly gushed in a low voice.
Reese chuckled again before he stood up and thoughtfully advised, "We should probably get some sleep while we can. If I remember correctly, babies wake up a lot throughout the night when they're that young."
"I suppose you're probably right about that," I mumbled as I got to my feet, while still cradling Snow against my chest. I just wanted to keep sitting there and admiring her cuteness, but I knew Reese was right, so I followed his lead and headed to the bedroom with Snow in my arms.
