Amanda reached the hospital in due time and visited her friend Bella. They have moved her to the normal cabin and is out of danger. Amanda heard about everything from her and requested her friend to give witness for her if her husband calls her or anything. Though Bella questioned it, to help her friend she agreed to do so.
After staying for one hour, she left the hospital for Steve’s place. The mansion is grand and is decorated with expensive furniture as well. Amanda got off the taxi and headed straight towards Steve’s room without meeting anyone. Some maids saw her coming and went to inform her mother-in-law, Claudia about it.
Amanda stood in front of Steve’s room trying to keep a cool head. She inhaled some air and sighed.
Lifting her head, she knocked on the door several times before someone opens it.
Steve watched her with curious eyes standing at the doorway with his door opened.
“You?”.
His grey-cat-like eyes rolled down at her dress. He always keeps his raven black hair permed backward letting some locks fall in front of his face.
He keeps a little bit of beard on his face which is hardly visible from a distance.
“Where have you been to?” he asked, resting his hand at the door, as he examined her carefully.
“You didn’t come to the hotel last night.”
“My friend, Bella was in an accident!” Amanda stated.
“Who’s Bella? Never heard of her.”
Amanda could feel the hint of sarcasm in his tone very well. Though she can’t allow herself to lose the battleground so easily.
“Bella is my best friend since school. I think I had told you a lot about her.”
“Uh, maybe. I don’t quite remember. So, what does her accident has to do anything with you not coming to the hotel, tell me?” he’s questioning her like a cop-non stop. Amanda is stunned to see this version of Steve she had never seen before.
“When the accident happened, I was two minutes across from her. I had gone to a salon, and on the way, I saw an accident. I rushed for help to see Bella in there. She was not in a state to ask for help, so I did whatever I could. I called an ambulance and took her to the hospital.”
“The operation ran till the morning. Which is why I waited for her instead of going there.”
“What about her family?”.
“They don’t live here,” Amanda kept eye contact with him so he won’t suspect her.
“They live in the next town. Till they come it would be too late, so I stayed behind. I went back to the hotel to search for you, but you left.”
“Yeah, cause I saw no hope to see you. That’s why,” he grunted, punching at the door.
Amanda is startled by his behavior.
“Anyway, come inside instead of talking at the doorway.” He grabbed her wrists and dragged her inside the room by force and locked the door behind him.
He pushed her against the door, and placed his hands at the side, not letting her the chance to escape.
She kept her eye contact with him still.
“On your wedding night, instead of spending time with your husband, you went to see your friend? Is this house you play the part of being a wife? Who permitted you to go?” he remarks, his eyes narrowed down to her figure, his words are full of spite.
“Permission? I need permission to go and see my injured friend?” she replied in a soft voice.
“Yes you have to!” he yelled in her face.
She closed her eyes, recalling how he used to act around her before their marriage. She could find no similarity between that man and this man.
“Before you were only my fiancé. But things are different now. You are my wife. You have to take my permission for whatever things that you do. That’s the rule in The Lawrence family. Do you understand? Women have no right to go against their husband’s words.”
“What the men say, is the law.”
She remained silent, not even uttering a single word.
“Do you understand everything now? Why aren’t you speaking up?”.
“Can’t you hear me?”.
“I’m disappointed.” She said, lowering her eyes down at her feet.
“Huh? Disappointed in what?”.
“In you!” her eyes were serious and seething with rage.
“You are angry that I didn’t appear at the hostel yesterday. But what were you doing in there when I wasn’t present? Sleeping peacefully?”.
He backed away, kind of intimidated a little.
“Y-yes, what else could I do in there?”.
“Is that so?”.
“Then what is this?”. She took out her phone and showed some pictures to him.
His eyes widened in response, and his mouth dropped.
He took the phone away from her hand right away.
“Where did you find this from?” he stuttered.
“You….had s*x with another woman in our room while I was absent. Is this false?” she yelled, pointing in her direction.
He watched the picture closely and then put it down.
“Who took this picture?”.
“Me of course.”
He walked over to her side and grabbed her by the wrists, holding them tightly, anger visible in them.
“Then you did go to the hotel, and saw everything. Then why did you lie about your friend?”.
He gripped it as tightly as he could. She felt the intense pain traveling through her veins.
“I didn’t lie!” she replied.
“On the way to return from there, I took her to the hospital. That’s all.”
“At least, I told the truth, instead of you, a liar.”
His grips on her hands loosened, he backed away and gritted onto his teeth tightly, and his nose flared.
“How could you cheat with me over another woman?” shouted Amanda. Her voice resonated within the room.
She noticed the bruise on her arm, red and throbbing.
“Unless I had discovered everything, you wouldn’t have told me anything, would you?”.
