"It was your first night after your marriage, and you went to attend to your friend instead of going to the hotel? What is wrong with your head? Are you stupid?". The maids and servants in the room came towards the foyer hearing her yelling. They were listening to their conversations from behind. "Didn't she have her family to attend to her? Why did you have to go, tell me?" her eyes narrowed down onto Amanda, who watched her with surprised eyes. "No, they live quite far away, and when the accident happened I was there. I couldn't discard my friend, I know her ever since we were little. Try to understand my circumstances and more than that-". "Are you aware of the fact, that your son had affairs for a long time? and he didn't think about telling me about it before marriage". This thought crossed their mind of Amanda. "But I can't spell it out, cause I am not aware of the circumstances which I may have to face as a result." "I understand what you are saying, what's done is done." Claudia sighs. "But, if for the second time you act as you want to, then nobody will be angrier than me." "Where are you going now by the way? Not to see your friend again, I guess," she remarks in a sarcastic tone, placing her hands at her waist. "I......". "Am going to my parent's place to see them. I'll be back by the afternoon-" she noticed the look of disapproval on her mother-in-law's face as her lips curl upwards. "This is your first day in my house, and you want to go back already? I mean, just why?". "Well....." Amanda lowered her eyes to her feet, trying to keep control of her anger, cause her son is the reason she has to go back home. "Answer!" Claudia persisted. “I have a reason, for going back,” she replied, without looking her in the eyes. “And what reason is that, that you have to go back home already? It just me not that important, I guess.” “It is important,” she mumbled. “I need to take care of it by today. Please let me go for now. I’ll come back and explain everything properly, I’m sorry-“ she escaped out of the door without letting Claudia the chance to say anything after that. Amanda took a taxi and headed towards her parent's house right away. “That girl…I need to talk about her with sonny. He needs to hear everything.” Amanda reached the house in due time. It takes three to four hours to reach their house which is some miles away from her in-law’s house. It’s quite an average apartment considering the situation of her father’s business. She got out of the taxi and went to the door, ringing the doorbell several times. “Coming,” a voice called from inside. The door opened wide, and Amanda stood there with a stoic expression. The one who opened it is her step-mom, Lizzy. She’s in her late thirties, quite a young mother for having a daughter of 18 only. She married her dad, just because she was his secretary and they fell in love while working. After her mother died, she took her place as her mother and had a daughter after that who’s the step-sister of Amanda. As usual, she’s dressed in short sleeves dress which is up to her knees only, and the red lipstick which is her favorite. Her eyes widened to see Amanda standing. “Sweetie, when did you come?”. “Just now,” Amanda walked past her walking in through the door. She went to the living room and sat down on the couch. No one was present as there were hardly any noises within the house. Lizzy came after her and took a seat in front of her, staring at her with a puzzled face. “Are you alright?”. Amanda heaved a sigh, and fixed her posture, staring at her step-mom with a serious face. “It doesn’t seem that anyone is at home.” She spoke in a calm tone. “Yes, your daddy is at the office. And Melody is at school. Why any problem? You can tell me about it. Mommy is here to listen to my girl.” Lizzy replied with a smile, which seemed fake as her eyes were not matching her actions. “No, no problem at all,” Amanda replied. She placed one leg over the other and crossed her arms in front of her chest, giving an intense glare at her mom. “We have something important to talk about. I hope you’ll answer each of them honestly.” “I-important talk? I wonder what it’s about. By the way, how was your first night? The hotel he book it was-“. “Don’t try to advert the matter in any direction!” Amanda exclaimed in a loud yell. Her Mom is startled to see her behavior. Amanda kept her eye contact. “You married me off to Steve, even after knowing that he’s a player and has affairs with the women from his past. Just why? What have I done to you, that you sold me off to a devil, rascal like him?” her tone as sharp as the knife itself. “Do you even know what he has done last night?”. “W-what?” she stuttered. “He f****d a woman in the hotel room where he called me to meet. I saw everything with my very own eyes.” “How could you marry me off to such a person who can do these things on his wedding night? Are you even a human being?”. She pointed towards Lizzy, stabbing a finger. Lizzy seemed to be troubled for a while. She removed eye contact and glanced here and there, puzzled, searching for answers to Amanda’s questions and accusations.
